Abstract
219,972. Jenaer Glaswerk Schott & Gen. Aug. 3, 1923, [Convention date]. Production of metal.-Borosilicate glasses, particularly intended for optical purposes, have the alkali content mainly in the form of potash. The glasses may contain from 5 per cent to 18 per cent of boron trioxide, alumina not exceeding 10 per cent and from 3 per cent to 15 per cent of potassium oxide and sodium oxide together, the sodium oxide not exceeding 1 per cent and being at most one fifth of the percentage of potassium oxide. Lead oxide or baryta may be present to the extent of 35 per cent. The lead may be replaced partly or entirely by antimony, and the baryta may be replaced partly or entirely by lime, magnesia, or zinc oxide.
