Abstract
220,149. Hamer, J., and Cross, T. W. July 21, 1923. Interconnecting guard or protector with starting-gear.-In a machine for opening and cleaning cotton waste &c. a cleaning roller 15 is mounted on pivoted arms 16 and can be swung into position to operate on the roller 3, which is enclosed by a pivoted guard 26. The guard 26 and arms 16 are connected by a link 27. The arms 16 are locked in the inoperative position until the driving belt is placed on the loose pulley 37. A vertical rod 27a engages a notch in a quadrant 16a on the arm 16 and rests at its lower end on a cam 28 on a spindle 29 turned by the starting- handle 33. When the cam is turned the rod 27<a> is lowered and the arm 16 is free to move. When the roller 15 is in its operative position the rod 27<a> engages the curved part of the quadrant 16a and prevents the handle 33 being turned to restart the machine.
