Abstract

The invention relates to a towel comprising a sheet element, the sheet element defining a first section (14) that is profiled to fit on to the head of a person for covering the person's hair. An elongate section (16) extends from the first section (14) and can be wound-up for tightening the first section on a person's head and then be folded back and attached to the first section for securing the location of the towel on the head of a person. <IMAGE>

Description

THIS INVENTION relates to a towel.
This invention relates particularly to a towel that is specifically adapted to dry hair.
According to the invention there is provided a towel which comprises a fabric sheet element formed to define a first section that can fit on to the head of a person for covering the person's hair and an elongate second section that extends irom the first section and that can be wound up and folded back on to the first section, when fitted on the head of a person, for securing the location of the towel on the head of a person.
The fabric sheet element may be made up of two towel halves defining two sides of the towel, the two towel halves being secured together at least in the region forming the first section.
Preferably, the two towel halves are secured together in the regIons thereof that form both the first and second sections of the towel.
At least a part of the peripheral free edge of the sheet element forming the towel may have a trimming attached thereto. At least a pert of the trimming may be elasticised, it being particularly anticipated that the trimming in the region of the first section of the sheet element may be elasticised.
Further according to the invention, the towel may include attachment means at the end of the first section remote from the free end of the second section, for attaching the end of the second section to the first section when wound up and folded back on to the first section. The attachment means may be a slit formed within the sheet element in the region defining the first section or, alternatively, the attachment means may be a loop formation, preferably of an elastic material.
The sheet element forming the towel of the invention may be of a high absorbent fabric material such as a conventional towelling material, or the like. Furthermore, the sheet element may be made up of a plurality of material layers.
The sheet element forming the towel of the invention may be reversible, thus permitting fitting of the towel on to the head of a person with either side of the towel abutting the person's head.
Further features of the invention including the mode of use of the invention is described in more detail hereinafter with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings. In the drawings: Figure 1 shows schematically in side view, the outline of a towel, in accordance with the invention; and Figures 2 to 4 illustrate in side view, the mode of application of the towel on to the head of a person.
Referring to the drawings, a towel, in accordance with the invention, is designated generally by the reference numeral 10. The towel 10 comprises a sheet element 12 defining in side view the profile as shown in Figure 1, the sheet element 12 defining a first section 14 that is formed to fit on to the head of a person for covering the person's head, and an elongate second section 16 that extends from the first section 14, as illustrated.
The towel 10 particularly is made up of two towel halves, each half defining the profile as shown in Figure 1, with the two halves being secured together by stitching, or the like, along the line 18 thereof. In this way the first section 14 is created in a form that is specifically suitable for fitting this section 14 on to the head of a person as shown.
The entire free peripheral edge of the sheet element 12 has a trimming 20 applied thereto, the trimming 20 particularly being stitched on to the sheet element 12. Particularly in the region of the first section 14 of the towel 10, the trimming may be elasticised, thus ensuring that the first section 14 can fit snugly on to the head of a person.
At the end of the first section remote from the second section of the towel, there is provided a loop formation ' 22, which is preferably of an elastic material and which can provide for the secure location of the towel on the head of a person in the manner hereafter described.
The towel 10 preferably is of a high absorbent fabric material such as a conventional towelling material, it further being anticipated that the sheet element forming the towel may be made up of a plurality of material layers suitably laminated together. Also, because of the construction of the towel 10 as described, the towel clearly is reversible, permitting it to be fitted on to the head of a person with either side of the towel abutting the person's head when fitted thereon.
When fitted on to the head of a person into the configuration as shown in Figure 2, the elongate second section of the towel 16 can be wound up into the configuration as shown in Figure 3, in which configuration the first section 14 is effectively tightened on to the head of a person. Thereafter, the wound-up second section 16 can be folded back and the free end 26 thereof can be passed through the loop 22 to thereby be effectively attached to the first section and provide for the secure location of the towel 10 on the head of a person. The loop 22 clearly can be replaced by a suitably located slit in the region of the towel where the loop is positioned.
By being fitted as described and because of the size of towelling utilised, it is believed that the towel 10 will be particularly suitable for drying of hair after washing, the effective size of the towel permitting a relatively large volume of water to be absorbed.
Although the above application is considered to be the main application of the towel 10, the towel clearly also can be used for covering untidy or unwashed hair and also for keeping hair in place in windy conditions. Particularly, when not only used for drying hair, the towel may be provided with any additional trimmings that can enhance the finished appearance thereof.
The specific construction of the towel 10 clearly is greatly variable, while still incorporating the main features as described above, which provides for snug fitting of the towel on to the head of a person and thereafter secure location of the towel, the towel being made up of a sufficient quantity of material to have the necessary absorbent qualities to permit effective drying of hair.
