Piston-rods. - A water-cooled piston-rod A of a double-acting, internal - combustion engine is provided with a sleeve C spaced therefrom, the space C<4> being filled with a metal alloy of low melting-point to facilitate the transfer of heat from the sleeve to the rod. The sleeve C mav be bolted to a flange a on the piston end of the rod, or to a crosshead D secured to the rod.
