Description

COIN HOLDER AND GREETINGS ARRANGEMENT.
This invention relates to a coin holder and a greetings arrangement.
According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a coin holder comprising a plurality of coin retaining means for retaining coins, the coin retaining means being so positioned that, in use, coins retained by said coin retaining means define, at least in part, a letter or a numeral.
Said coin retaining means may suitably define, for example, the number "21" and the coin holder may be given as a present, with a coin retained in each coin retaining means.
The coin retaining means preferably include respective openings defined in said coin holder for receiving coins. Preferably, each of said openings opens through a main plane of the coin holder and the openings are arranged to receive coins which are inputted into the openings from a direction transverse to said main plane.
Each of said openings may be arranged to retain a respective coin by means of friction between the walls defining the respective openings and the respective coin received in the opening. Each of said openings may be such that a respective coin may fit snugly therewithin.
Preferably, each of said openings is arranged such that a respective coin may be push-fitted into the respective opening. Each of said openings may be substantially the same size and shape as the coin to be received therein.
Each of said openings may be of circular cross-section.
The openings may extend through the holder.
When the holder retains coins, the surface of the coins may be arranged to be substantially flush with the surface of the holder.
The coin retaining means may comprise adhesive means provided at predetermined positions on a surface of the coin holder, the adhesive means being arranged to retain coins in predetermined positions on said surface. In this case, said openings may have a greater dimension than that of coins to be retained therein, as the coins are retained by said adhesive means and not by means of friction as aforementioned.
The coin holder may be square or rectangular shaped.
The coin holder may be made from card or cardboard and may be made from corrugated carboard. Alternatively, said coin holder may be made from plastics.
The invention extends to a coin holder as hereinbefore descibed in combination with a greetings card or greetings holder. Said coin holder may be arranged to be received inside said greetings card or greetings holder.
According to another aspect of the invention, there is provided a greetings arrangement comprising a plurality of coin retaining means arranged so as to display, in use, coins retained in said coin retaining means. The arrangement may include a greetings card.
The term "greetings card" should be construed to include any medium, whether made of, for example, card or plastics, when used to convey a message or greeting.
The greetings card may comprise an unfolded sheet or may comprise a folded sheet or sheets. For example, the coins may be displayed, in use, on the front face of the card or displayed on an inside face thereof.
Preferably, said coin retaining means are as described in relation to the first aspect. Preferably, said greetings card includes a letter or numeral defined, at least in part, by said coin retaining means.
The invention may be carried into practice in various ways but specific embodiments of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is front elevation of a coin holder; and Figure 2 is a cross-section along line A-A of figure 1.
The coin holder 1 shown in the figures has a rectangular body 2 made from corrugated cardboard or other suitable material. The body 1 includes a plurality of circular openings 3, each of the openings extending through the body 1. The circular openings 3 are of suitable dimensions so as to accommodate a coin therein.
For example each of the openings 3 may have a diameter of about 22 mm and a depth of about 4 mm so as to accommodate a 1 coin with the coin being flush with the surfaces at the front and back of the body.
The openings 3 are arranged to receive a coin and retain it therein by means of friction. Suitably, a coin is a push-fit in a respective opening. In this case, the diameter of the openings 3 is substantially the same size as the coin to be received therein so that the particular coin may be push-fitted into the opening, snugly received therein and retained therein by means of friction between the sides of the opening and the coin.
The openings 3 are positioned so that in combination they define the numeral "21". It will be appreciated that any number, letter or word may be defined by a combination of suitably positioned openings.
In use, a coin is push-fitted into each opening of the coin holder 1. The coin holder may then be slipped inside, for example, a birthday card, and given to a person as a present. Thus, in the case of the holder 1 shown in figure 1, seventeen 1 coins may be carried in the holder and thereby given as a present. In an alternative embodiment, 21 openings 3 may be provided.
It is preferable for the holder 1 to be attractively finished. For example, the upper surface 4 may be decorated with coloured patterns or a birthday message.
As mentioned above, the holder 1 may be inserted inside a card. As an alternative to this, the holder may be made in the form of a greetings card, with the openings being defined either in an outside face of the card or in an inside face thereof.
Many variations of the aforementioned embodiment are envisaged. For example, in another embodiment, an adhesive may be provided for retaining a coin in an opening and the rear face of the body 1 may be provided with a member which presents adhesive to the base of each opening. The coin holder may be provided with openings which need not necessarily be arranged to snugly receive a coin. The openings may, in fact, be large enough to receive any coin selected from a ten pence piece, a twenty pence piece, a fifty pence piece or a pound coin. A purchaser of the coin holder may stick coins of their choice in each respective opening before giving the coin holder as a present.
A coin holder as described herein may be arranged for use with any sized coin or any number of coins.
It will be appreciated from the foregoing that the coin holder provides an attractive means of presenting coins. Once the coin holder has been given, the recipient may remove the coins and discard the holder.
