Abstract
Composition comprises ethylmorphine, phenobarbital, caffeine, and dipyrone or their pharmaceutically acceptable salts. Activity is against e.g. headaches, migraine or joint pain.
Description
TITLE
A Pharmaceutical Composition suitable for alleviation of
Headaches. Migraine and other painful conditions.
The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition suitably used for alleviation of headaches, migraine, some joint pains, pains caused by exostoses of the vertebral column and other painful conditions.
After long trials the composition has been shown to be of great therapeutic benefit with negligible side effects. The lack of side effects is somewhat surprising because patients treated with the individual components of the composition of the invention do sometimes experience certain undesirable side effects sooner or later.
According to the invention there is provided a pharmaceutical composition suitable for alleviation of headaches, migraine and other painful conditions, the composition comprising a first component consisting of ethylmorphine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a second component consisting of phenobarbital or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a third component consisting of caffeine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a fourth component consisting of aminopyrine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a fifth component consisting of dipyrone or a phamaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The pharmaceutical composition of the invention may include a pharmaceutically compatible carrier or excipient.
Preferred proportions of the components of the composition are as follows:first component, up to 10% by weight, more preferably
up to 5% by weight; second component, up to 10% by weight, more preferably
up to 5% by weight; third component, up to 20% by weight, more preferably
up to 10% by weight, fourth component, up to 50% by weight, more preferably
up to 40% by weight, fifth component, up to 60% by weight, more preferably
up to 50% by weight.
The pharmaceutical composition may take various forms, e.g. powder, tablets, ampoules and suppositories.
After considerable testing of the pharmaceutical composition substantially no side'effects or any allergic reactions have been discerned.
As is evident by reference to, for instance, the Merck Index, eleventh edition, 1989, ethylmorphine has in general narcotic, analgesic, antitussive and chemotic properties; phenobarbital has in general sedative, hypnotic and anticonvulsant properties; caffeine has in general a central nervous system stimulant property; aminopyrine has antipyretic and analgesic properties and dipyrone has analgesic and antipyretic properties.
Example (1) Dionin (ethylmorphine hydrochloride dihydrate, C18 H24 ClN03 2H20) 15mg (2) Luminal Sodium (Phenobarbital Sodium, Ci2 Hii N2 Nana) 30mg (3) Caffeine Sodium Benzoate 80mg (4) Pyramidon (Aminopyrine, C13 H17 N30) 300mg (5) Analgin (Dipyrone, C13 H16 N3 NaO4S H2O) 400mg 825my The amount of 825mg is a recommended single dose, suitably taken 3-4 times daily. A single dose for each of components (1) to (5) in the Example is suitable as follows:
Component (1) 6 - 30 mg
Component (2) 12 - 300 rog Component (3) 32 - 500 mg
Component (4) 120 - 500 mg
Component (5) 160 - 1000 mg.
Claims (13)
1. A pharmaceutical composition suitable for alleviation of headaches, migraine and other conditions, the composition comprising a first component consisting of ethylmorphine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a second component consisting of phenobarbital or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a third component consisting of caffeine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a fourth component consisting of aminopyrine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a fifth component consisting of dipyrone or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
2. A composition according to Claim 1, wherein up to 10% by weight of the first component is present.
3. A composition according to Claim 2, wherein up to 5% by weight of the first component is present.
4. A composition according to any preceding claim, wherein up to 10% by weight of the second component is present.
5. A composition according to Claim 4, wherein up to 5% by weiOht of the second component is present.
6. A composition according to any preceding claim wherein up to 20% by weight of the third component is present.
7. A composition according to Claim 6, wherein up to 10% by weight of the third component is present.
8. A composition according to any preceding claim, wherein up to 50% by weight of the fourth component is present.
9. A composition according to Claim 8, wherein up to 40% by weight of the fourth component is present.
10. A composition according to any preceding claim, wherein up to 60S by weight of the fifth component is present.
11. A composition according to Claim 10, wherein up to 50% by weight of the fifth component is present.
12. A composition according to any preceding claim, which takes the form of powder, tablets, ampoules or suppositories.
13. A pharmaceutical composition substantially as herein described and exemplified.
