Abstract
840,611. Friction clutches. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Sept. 5, 1958 [Sept. 27, 1957], No. 28561/58. Addition to 801,979. Class 80 (2). In a multi-plate clutch for automatic transmissions according to the parent Specification, wherein waved plain metal flexible plates 24 alternate with friction-faced flat plates 32, to ensure that the waves of all the waved plates are assembled in axial register irrespective of the manner of assembly, the radial centre lines of the inner or outer splines 26 of the waved plates pass through the points of inflection between crest and trough of adjacent waves, and the number of splines is equal to or a submultiple of the number of waves, which latter number is at least three. Lubricant is supplied to the plates through a central duct 40 and radial bores (not shown) in the shaft 28 to which the flat plates 32 are splined. Thickness and dimensions of the plates are specified.
