Abstract

Apparatus for moulding, shaping, towing, trimming or banding pottery comprises a body or frame in which is rotatably mounted a vertical hollow spindle or sleeve 2 carrying a work holder 3 at its upper end, the hollow interior of the spindle communicating with a work seat defined by a rubber ring 25 around the upper rim of the holder and being connected to a suction source via rotatable housing 14 and pipe 16. The spindle is rotated by pulley 7 and V-belt 10 from an electric motor (not shown) and the workpiece 24 is centred on the seat by three abutment fingers 35 equispaced around the intended centre point of the work and movable by articulated linkages 29, 30 and 33 controlled by turnable ring 27b arranged concentrically around the spindle. The workpiece is vertically movable by means of piston/cylinder unit 18 and 19. The apparatus may be provided with a superstructure 40 and 41 whereupon one or more banding guns 39 may be mounted.
