Abstract

An interface apparatus provides an automatic codeless interface between a number of personal computers and a one or more legacy host computers. Interface data is received by the apparatus and its originating host type determined by comparison with a number of stored host types using a combination of a latch (25) a comparator (31) and a memory device (34). The data is then converted using a host characteristic in accordance with the identified host type and is then available for processing by a personal computer. The data is processed (Fig 3) using the combination of a pattern decoder (58), a pattern memory array (59), converters (111 and 147) and an adder (132) to produce a graphical user interface in an automatic and codeless manner.
