こうした状況から凝集剤を利用した炭素質の回収プロ

の回収のためには浮遊選鉱、オイルアグロメレーション
法等を用いてきたが、浮遊選鉱は一般に74〜500μの粒
子に対して用いられるに過ぎず、オイルアグロメレーシ
ョンは多量の油を使用する必要があった。そのため、74
μ以下の粒子が大い微粉炭、スラッジでは、これらのプ
ロセスは効率が悪かった。そこで、微粒子に対して効果
的な凝集法で炭素質に選択的に作用する凝集剤を提供す
ることができれば、石炭の脱灰プロセス、スラッジ水か
らの炭素質の回収は容易になるので、このような凝集剤

本発明は、凝集剤をアクリルアミドと2−アクリルア
ミド−2−エチルブタンスルホン酸ナトリウム塩の共重
合体とすることにより、水中に懸濁している炭素質と鉱
物質に対して炭素質を選択的に凝集させる作用をもたせ
るようにしたものである。又、その作用を効果的にする
ために共重合体に占める2−アクリルアミド−2−エチ
ルブタンスルホン酸ナトリウム塩の割合を、2〜20モル
%とした。共重合体の溶融粘度は5%NaCl水溶液中、0.
