本発明はこのような問題に鑑みてなされたもので、その目的とするところは、記録書き込みの際にのみインクカートリッジから記録ヘッドに至る流路を開放することによって、インクカートリッジを左右に振り分け配置する形式のプリンタにおいてもインクの漏れ出しを確実に抑えることのできる新たなプリンタにおけるインク供給流路の開閉機構を提供することにある。

すなわち、本発明はこのような課題を達成するために、インクカートリッジを収容するカートリッジ収容部をプリンタ本体の両側に振分け配置する型式のインクジェットプリンタにおいて、上記インクカートリッジから上記記録ヘッドに至る流路の一部に、紙送りローラ駆動手段の紙送り方向の回転により上記流路を開放し、また上記紙送りローラ駆動手段の反紙送り方向への回転により上記流路を閉塞するバルブ開閉機構を設け、記録書き込み時以外は常時流路を閉塞しておくことによりインクの漏れ出しを防ぐようにしたものであり、また、バルブ開閉機構の一部をなすバルブ室を記録ヘッドの配設位置より下方に配設することにより、インクカートリッジからバルブ室に気泡が入り込んだ場合でも容易に排出できるようにしたものである。

以上述べたように本発明によれば、インクカートリッジを本体両側に振分け配置する形式のプリンタに、紙送りモータの反紙送り方向の回転によりインクカートリッジからの流路を開放させる機構を配設したので、紙送りに使用するモータを利用して、記録書込み時にのみインクカートリッジから記録ヘッドに至る流路を開放し、記録ヘッドとインクカートリッジとの間の水頭差や、傾けた際の左右のインクカートリッジ相互の間の水頭差によって生じるインクの漏洩やインクの混合といった事態を未然に防ぐことができる。
