近年、食品加工技術や包装技術の進歩により、あるいはコールドチェーンシステムの確立や家庭における冷凍冷蔵庫の普及により、電子レンジ等により加熱するだけで、すぐに食用に供することができるような食品が種々開発され提供されている。また、家庭においても時間や労力の節約のため、作り置きした料理を袋にいれて凍結保存し、必要なときに加熱して食用に供するようなケースが一般化しつつある。
