しかしながら上記従来の構成の記録紙の切断装置では、記録紙15は回転刃14の移動によって紙幅の切断方向に力を受けるので、図5のように切断部においてシワになりやすく、まっすぐに切断されにくいという課題を有していた。

さらに、シワになった記録紙15の切断は不完全になり易く、また紙送り機能も不能になることがあり、最悪状態の紙ジャム(紙詰まり)を起こす要因となっていた。特に記録紙15が薄い場合や高温多湿の環境下で使用する場合など、記録紙15の剛性つまり紙のコシが弱いまたは弱くなる場合には顕著であり、従って、記録紙15の紙厚や使用環境に制約がある等の課題を有していた。
