【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、コネクタハウジングとフロントホルダとの合体により端子収容室を画成させるホルダ合体式コネクタに関するものである。

【従来の技術】
図10〜図12は従来のホルダ合体式コネクタの一形態(特開平11−224713号)を示すものである。
このホルダ合体式コネクタ81(図11)は、合成樹脂製のコネクタハウジング82と、コネクタハウジング82の前部開口から空室内に挿入されて端子収容室84を画成する合成樹脂製のフロントホルダ83と、後部開口から端子収容室84内に挿入される電線付きの端子85とで構成されている。

図10の如く、コネクタハウジング82の空室内に可撓性の端子係止ランス86が突出し、係止ランス86の後方に端子収容室の一部である端子挿入孔87が設けられている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながら、上記従来のホルダ合体式コネクタ81にあっては、横幅方向の小型化は可能であるが、縦方向(高さ方向)の小型化という点では、フロントホルダ83の上下の壁部90,91とコネクタハウジング82の上下の壁部93,94(図10)とが重なり合うために、無駄が多く、小型化を達成できないという問題があった。また、端子85の係止力を高めるために、端子85を係止ランス86と他の部材とで二重係止する必要があるが、他の係止部材を用いることで、係止作業に手間がかかると共に、コネクタ81の構造が複雑化・大型化しやすいという問題があった。

本発明は上記した点に鑑み、特に高さ方向(図11で上下方向)の小型化を図り、小型化によっても相手側コネクタとの電気的接続の信頼性を損なうことがなく、しかも端子を簡単且つ確実に二重係止することができるホルダ合体式コネクタを提供することを目的とする。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上記目的を達成するために、本発明の請求項1に係るホルダ合体式コネクタは、端子収容室に臨む可撓性の端子係止ランスを有するコネクタハウジングと、該コネクタハウジング内のハウジング主体部に合体して該端子収容室を画成するフロントホルダとを備えるホルダ合体式コネクタであって、
前記ハウジング主体部の端子収容室底壁及び端子収容室上壁が排除されて、垂直な各端子収容室隔壁の間で端子収容空間に続く上部開口及び下部開口が上下に貫通して、且つ該ハウジング主体部の外側に連通して設けられ、前記フロントホルダに、該上部開口を塞ぐ板壁と該下部開口を塞ぐ底壁が設けられ、該板壁の突出先端部が前記端子係止ランスの撓み空間に進入して該端子係止ランスの撓みを阻止することを特徴とする。
上記構成により、フロントホルダがハウジング主体部に合体することで、端子収容空間の上部開口及び下部開口がフロントホルダの板壁と底壁で塞がれて、四方を囲まれた端子収容室が完成する。そして、ハウジング主体部の端子収容室底壁及び端子収容室上壁が排除されたことで、端子収容室底壁及び端子収容室上壁の厚みに相当する寸法分だけコネクタハウジングの上下方向の小型化が可能となる。また、フロントホルダの板壁が端子収容空間の上部開口を塞ぐと共に端子係止ランスの撓みを阻止して端子の係止力を高める働きをするから、壁部とは別のランス撓み防止部材が不要で、コネクタ構造が簡素化、小型化される。

請求項2に係るホルダ合体式コネクタは、請求項1に係るホルダ合体式コネクタにおいて、前記上部開口の上側に前記ハウジング主体部の上壁が設けられ、前記フロントホルダが、該上壁を挿入させる空間を有し、該上壁に沿って前記板壁が位置することを特徴とすることを特徴とする。
上記構成により、ハウジング主体部の上壁がフロントホルダの空間に挿入され、フロントホルダの板壁が上壁に接することで、フロントホルダがハウジング主体部にガタ付きなく安定に支持されて正確に位置決めされる。これにより、端子の挿入位置精度が向上し、相手側コネクタとの電気的接続の信頼性が高まる。また、フロントホルダの板壁がハウジング主体部の上壁に接することで、板壁の反りや変形が防止され、板壁で端子係止ランスの撓みを強力に阻止できると共に、壁部の薄肉化が可能で、フロントホルダひいてはコネクタ全体の高さ方向の小型化が可能となる。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下に本発明の実施の形態を図面に基づいて詳細に説明する。
図1〜図3は、本発明に係るホルダ合体式コネクタの第一の実施形態を示すものである。

このホルダ合体式コネクタ1(図3)は、図1に示す合成樹脂製の雄型のコネクタハウジング2と、図2の如くコネクタハウジング2のフード部3の内側のハウジング主体部4に合体する合成樹脂製のフロントホルダ5と、図3の如くハウジング主体部2とフロントホルダ5の内部に挿入される電線6付きの雌型の端子7とで構成されている。

そして、図1の如くハウジング主体部4の端子収容室の底壁(キャビティ底壁)の前半部分と、同じく端子収容室の上壁(キャビティ上壁)とが大きく切欠され(切欠された開口部を符号8,9で示す)、図3の如くフロントホルダ5の底壁(壁部)10が下側の開口部8を塞ぎつつハウジング主体部4の後部底壁11と合体してキャビティ底壁を補完し、且つフロントホルダ4の端子二重係止用の板壁(壁部)12が上側の開口部9を塞ぎつつキャビティ上壁を構成し、同時にハウジング主体部4の端子係止ランス13の撓み空間14内に進入して、端子7を二重係止させる。

図1の如く、コネクタハウジング2は外側に略矩形環状のフード部3を有し、フード部3に相手側の雌型のコネクタ(図示せず)に対する水平なロックアーム15が形成され、フード部3の内側空間29において垂直な基壁16から前方にハウジング主体部4が一体に突出形成され、基壁16から後方に、端子挿入孔17を有する略円筒状の挿入部18が形成されている。端子挿入孔17はハウジング主体部4の端子収容空間19に連通し、端子収容空間19は横方向に複数並列に配置され、挿入部18は各端子収容空間19に対応して位置している。

図4(コネクタハウジング2の正面図)にも示す如く、端子収容空間19は左右の垂直な隔壁20の間に形成されて、上下両方向に開口部8,9を有している。左右の隔壁20は端子挿入孔17(図1)の内壁から端子挿入方向に延長形成され、前端内面に、端子7(図3)の前端を当接させる停止突部21を有している。図1は図4のA−A断面図である。なお、本明細書では、突出したハウジング主体部4を有する側を雄型のコネクタ、ハウジング主体部4とフロントホルダ5との合体部に対する嵌合室を有する側を雌型のコネクタと定義する。

図4で隣接する各端子挿入空間19の間には、各隔壁20を連結する幅狭な水平な連結壁22が設けられ、連結壁22とその両側の隔壁20とで縦断面略凹字状の壁部が形成されている。連結壁22は図1の隔壁20と同じ長さで形成されている(図1に連結壁22は示されていない)。端子挿入空間19の上部開口9の上側には水平方向のスリット状の板壁挿入空間23が設けられ、板壁挿入空間23の上側にハウジング主体部4の上壁24と、上壁24と一体で且つ同一平面上のロックアーム25とが設けられている。ロックアーム25はフロントホルダ5に対する仮係止部と本係止部とを長手方向に順に有している。

ロックアーム25はフロントホルダ5を係止させるためのものであり、上壁24と同一平面に位置したことで、コネクタハウジング2の高さ方向の小型化に寄与している。図4で符号26は基壁16から突出された矩形環状の周壁部を示し、周壁部26に厚肉の上壁24と薄肉の底壁後半部11とが一体に形成されている。

図5にフロントホルダ5の一形態を示す如く、フロントホルダ5は略矩形筒状に形成され、周壁31と一体に厚めの底壁10と、図2の如くやや薄めの上壁32と、上壁32の下側において端子二重係止用の板壁12とを有し、底壁10と板壁12との間にハウジング主体部4(図2)の各隔壁20を挿入させる横長スリット状の空間33が設けられている。底壁10には、ハウジング主体部4の端子収容空間19(図1)の下部開口8に対向して端子収容室を構成する浅い凹溝部34が形成されている。各凹溝部34に対応してフロントホルダ5の前端に相手側の雄端子(図示せず)に対するガイドテーパ面35が形成されている。図2の如く、上壁32と板壁12との間にハウジング主体部4の上壁24を挿入させる横長スリット状の空間36が設けられている。図5の如く上壁32と板壁12とは前端壁37で連結されている。

図5で上壁32と板壁12との間の空間36内には、ハウジング主体部4(図2)に対するロック部(図示せず)が設けられている。周壁31の後部は図2の如くテーパ部38を介して外側に拡げられ、その拡げ部分39にハウジング主体部4の周壁26(図1)の前半部(符号11aで代用)が挿入可能となっている。

図2のフロントホルダ5の仮係止状態で、ハウジング主体部4の上壁24がフロントホルダ5の上壁32と板壁12との間に途中まで挿入され、板壁12の二重係止用の突部41は係止ランス13の前端よりも前方(係止ランス撓み空間外)に位置し、係止ランス13は撓み自在である。ハウジング主体部4の隔壁20はフロントホルダ5の下側の空間33内に途中まで進入し、フロントホルダ5の底壁10はハウジング主体部4の隔壁20の先端部下側に接し、底壁10の後端側の広がり部分39はハウジング主体部4の底壁後半部11のやや前方に位置する。

このフロントホルダ5の仮係止状態で端子7がハウジング主体部4内に完全に挿入される。その際、端子7の前半の箱状の電気接触部44が係止ランス13を撓ませつつハウジング主体部4の端子収容空間19に進入し、フロントホルダ5の底壁10に沿ってフロントホルダ5の空間33内に途中まで進入し、隔壁前端の停止突部21に当接して停止する。フロントホルダ5の底壁10が端子7の前端下部を前方に案内するから、端子7(図3)の挿入がスムーズに行われる。係止ランス13の先端は端子7の箱状の電気接触部44の後段部44aに当接し、それにより端子7が係止される。本形態の端子付き電線6は、端子挿入孔17に嵌合する防水ゴム栓45を有している。

端子挿入後にフロントホルダ5を後方に完全に押し込むことで、図3の如くフロントホルダ5がハウジング主体部4に本係止されつつ、フロントホルダ5の板壁12の先端部分がランス撓み空間14内に進入し、係止ランス13の撓みを阻止して、端子7を二重係止させる。相対的にハウジング主体部4の上壁24はフロントホルダ5の上部空間36(図2)に完全に挿入され、端子7はフロントホルダ5の下部空間33(図2)に完全に挿入される。フロントホルダ5の環状の広がり部分39はハウジング主体部4の周壁26の前半部分の外周面に嵌合する。

このように、ハウジング主体部4の厚肉の上壁24がフロントホルダ5内に深く挿入されることで、フロントホルダ5がハウジング主体部4にガタ付きやゆがみ等なく安定に支持され、端子7の保持性が高まる。また、端子二重係止用の薄肉の板壁12が端子収容室の上壁を兼ねることで、構造が簡素化され、コネクタハウジング2の高さ方向の小型化が可能となる。また、ハウジング主体部4のキャビティ底壁をなくしてフロントホルダ5の底壁10で代用させたことで、コネクタハウジング2の樹脂成形時に従来のハウジング主体部の底壁の板厚寸法分だけコネクタハウジング2を高さ方向に小型化することができると共に、端子収容室を小型化することができる。また、ハウジング主体部4の基部側に周壁26を設けて防水パッキン27を嵌着したことで、相手側の雌型のコネクタとの間の防水を確実に行わせることができる。

なお、防水パッキン27を用いない場合には、コネクタハウジング2(図1)の基壁16から周壁26を設けずに直接ハウジング主体部4の上壁24を突出させると共に、ハウジング主体部4の底壁11は全く形成せずに、端子収容室の底壁(キャビティ底壁)をフロントホルダ5の底壁10で完全に代用させることも可能である。この場合も、各端子収容室の間にはハウジング主体部4の水平な連結壁22が位置することが位置決め性及び強度性の点から好ましい。また、本実施形態ではハウジング主体部4のキャビティ底壁をなくしているが、図3の上下を反転させた如くにキャビティ底壁に代えてキャビティ上壁をなくすことも可能である。
