本発明は、プリンタ、複写機、ファクシミリなどの画像形成装置に適用される用紙搬送装置に係り、特に、駆動ローラと従動ローラからなる用紙搬送ローラ対の圧解除機構に特徴のある用紙搬送装置に関する。

【従来の技術】
画像形成装置の用紙搬送装置は、駆動ローラと、この駆動ローラと当接して連れ回りする従動ローラとを備え、用紙搬送路を搬送されてくる用紙を、そのニップ部にくわえ込んで下流側に搬送する。
用紙搬送路においては、しばしば紙詰まりを発生することがある。紙詰まりが発生した場合、この用紙を除去しないと、次の用紙を搬送することができないため、用紙搬送路を露出して用紙をユーザが取り除くようになっている。
用紙搬送路は、用紙ガイド板やカバー部材で被覆されているため、これを露出するためには、用紙ガイド板(あるいはカバー部材)を開放することになる。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
上述したように、紙詰まりを除去するためには用紙ガイド板を開放して用紙搬送路を露出するが、一般に画像形成装置の用紙搬送路は給紙部から排紙部に至るまで相応の長さがあり、用紙搬送ローラ対も上流部から下流部まで所定間隔で多数設置されている。
従って、あるガイド板を開けてもその下流側近傍のローラ対に用紙が挟まっている場合は、用紙を引き抜くのが困難である。また、破れてしまうこともある。さらにローラにノブが付いている場合もあるが、狭い場所での操作は困難であり、操作力が重い場合もある。

上記第1、2の課題は、画像形成装置本体に対し開閉自在に設けられた開閉部材と、前記開閉部材よりも用紙搬送経路下流に位置する搬送ローラ対と、前記搬送ローラ対の従動ローラと前記従動ローラの加圧手段が取り付けられたローラ支持部材で構成され、前記開閉部材に設けられた押圧部が前記ローラ支持部材に設けられた被押圧部を押圧し、前記前記搬送ローラ対の近傍に画像形成装置の周辺機器が設置されている第2の手段により解決される。
上記第1、3の課題は、画像形成装置本体に対し開閉自在に設けられた開閉部材と、前記開閉部材よりも用紙搬送経路下流に位置する搬送ローラ対と、前記搬送ローラ対の従動ローラと前記従動ローラの加圧手段が取り付けられたローラ支持部材で構成され、前記開閉部材に設けられた押圧部が前記ローラ支持部材に設けられた被押圧部を押圧し、前記開閉部材の前記押圧部と、前記ローラ支持部材の前記被押圧部は、その内側を通紙される用紙の最大幅より広い幅に設定された第3の手段により解決される。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の実施の形態を図面に基づいて説明する。
図1は本発明の実施の形態に係る用紙搬送装置の構成図である。
本実施の形態の用紙搬送装置は、給紙部近傍の縦型搬送経路に適用されている。給紙トレイ1に積載された用紙Sは、最上紙がピックアップローラ2に接し、給紙ローラ3と分離ローラ4のニップ部へ送られる。ピックアップローラ2で多枚送りされた場合はここで分離され、1枚だけが以下に説明する用紙搬送装置に送られる。
用紙搬送装置は、第1の搬送手段(搬送ユニット)11と、この下流側に連接する第2の搬送手段12から構成されている。
第1の搬送手段11は、駆動ローラ13、この駆動ローラ13に板ばね16により圧接される従動ローラ14、支軸15aを中心に矢印A方向に開放可能なガイド板15を有している。従動ローラ14は、ガイド板15に保持されており、ガイド板15が開くと駆動ローラ13から離れるようになっている。
第2の搬送手段12は、駆動ローラ13、この駆動ローラ13に板ばね16により圧接される従動ローラ14、支軸17aを中心に矢印B方向に開放可能なローラ支持部材17を有している。従動ローラ14は、ローラ支持部材17に保持されており、ローラ支持部材17が開くと駆動ローラ13から離れるようになっている。

駆動ローラ13は、金属軸にゴムのコロが1個以上付いたもの、またはゴムの代わりにゴムと同等の摩擦力を発揮する樹脂(ポリウレタンなど)、通常の樹脂のハブ+高摩擦係数の樹脂を焼き付けたもの、などで構成される。

第1の搬送手段11のガイド板15は、外部に露出しているため、容易に矢印A方向に開放することができるが、第2の搬送手段12のローラ支持部材17は、周辺機器19があるため、このローラ支持部材17をユーザが直接開放するのは難しい。
第1の搬送手段11で用紙の詰まりが発生した場合は、ガイド板15を矢印A方向に開放して、駆動ローラ13と受動ローラ14を離間させ、用紙をスムーズに取り除く。また、給紙ローラ3から出たところに用紙の先端が残っている場合は、ガイド板15を開けることで、用紙ガイド18が支軸18aを支点として時計回り(矢印A方向)に回転し、用紙先端を容易につかみ除去できる。
第2の搬送手段12の駆動ローラ13と従動ローラ14の間に用紙が挟まれている場合も、ガイド板15を矢印A方向に開放する。すると、押圧部15bが被押圧部17bから離れ、ガイド板15によるローラ支持部材17に対する押圧力が解除される。従って、駆動ローラ13と従動ローラ14間の圧接力も解除され、用紙は自重で落下する。
従って、この用紙搬送装置を縦搬送経路に適用すると都合がよいことになる。あるいは自重で落下し切れない場合でも、簡単に用紙先端を摘んで除去することが可能となる。
