この発明は、光コネクタ、特に多心光コネクタに関するものである。

【従来の技術】
従来から、多心コネクタの一つに図3(a)のMTコネクタや、(b)の接続面を斜め研磨して、ファイバを多少突出させたMPOコネクタが実用化されている。
なお、同図(a)(b)ともに、
10はフェルールの本体、
12は接着剤注入用の窓、
14は光ファイバ挿入穴、
16はガイドピン穴
である。
(a)(b)とも殆ど同じ構造であるが、(b)のMPOコネクタの場合は、前端面100が傾斜している。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
これらのコネクタの本体10は通常オールプラスチックのモールド成形品である。
そのため、僅かであるが、図4のように、熱硬化樹脂に於いて長手方向に反りを生じることがある。
反りが生じると、
・コネクタ端面を平行に研磨するのが困難になる、
・位置決め用のガイドピンが架け渡されるガイドピン穴16も同時に曲がってしまうので、ガイドピンがピン穴へ入らなくなる。
・接続時の押圧を平行にかけられない(MT,MPOコネクタは、接続時に両側からクリップで挟み込み接続方向へ挟持する)、
等の問題が生じ、とくに高精度の要求される製品に影響が生じた。
また、特にMPOコネクタは屈折率整合剤無しの接続であるため、前端面100の研磨角度はきわめて重要であり、フェルールの反りの影響は大きい。

【課題を解決するための手段】
図1に例示するように、
フェルール本体10の長手方向に補強部材20を埋め込み、
この補強部材20により前記フェルールの長手方向の反りを防止する。

また、図2に例示するように、補強部材20は本体10の外側に添わせてもよい。

【発明の実施の態様】
補強部材20は、セラミックス、金属、高硬度樹脂等の曲げ剛性の大きい長板状あるいは丸棒状の材料で作る。また、反りに対して断面係数が大になる断面形状にする。

補強部材20は、本体10の長手方向全長にわたって設けることが望ましい。
また設ける場所は、フェルールの構造上、ガイドピン穴16付近が望ましい。

補強部材20は、インサート成形により、すなわち、予め金型内に配置しておき、その周囲に樹脂モールドする成形法により、埋込みあるいは外付けする。

補強部材20は細長い長方形の板状の物で、材質は前述のものから適宜選択する。
これは、両方のガイドピン穴16の外側に、フェルール本体10の光ファイバ方向、すなわち長手方向に沿って、好ましくは全長にわたって埋め込まれる。

成形後、あるいは成形中に於けるコネクタ長手方向の反りを防止できるので、・コネクタ端面の研磨角度、

等が改善され、高精度の多心光コネクタを製造することができる。
