【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、感光体から中間転写体に転写された画像を、該中間転写体と対面配置した転写器と前記中間転写体によって挟持状態で搬送する記録媒体に再転写する画像形成装置、特に、中間転写体に記録媒体の巻き込みを防止した画像形成装置に関するものである。

【従来の技術】
従来から中間転写体に巻き付いた記録媒体を除去する装置は、特開平9−190084号公報及び特開平10−301401号公報等によって知られている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながら、かかる画像形成装置は、中間転写体への記録媒体の巻き付きを光学、または電位センサにより検知して、記録媒体を分離爪によって強制的に剥離するものであり、画像を積層するべき中間転写体表面へ分離爪を接触させることは、傷の発生の要因となりやすく、画像の品質低下や中間転写体の寿命に影響を及ぼすという問題があった。

また、中間転写体表面には地かぶりも含めてトナーが付着されているために、分離爪の接触が度重なると分離爪へのトナーの付着により該トナーが機内に飛散し記録媒体へトナーが落下し、画像欠陥が発生しやすいという問題がある。

本発明は上記問題に鑑みてなされたものであり、分離爪を用いないで、中間転写体から記録媒体の剥離を行う画像形成装置を提供することを目的とする。
また、本発明の他の目的は、中間転写体から剥離された記録媒体を容易に装置外に取り出すことができる画像形成装置を提供することである。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明は、中間転写体側へ記録媒体を搬送する搬送手段を有し、感光体から前記中間転写体に転写された画像を前記記録媒体の転写面に再転写するとともに、前記中間転写体と協同して、挟持状態で前記記録媒体を搬送する転写器とを有する画像形成装置において、
前記中間転写体側へ前記記録媒体を導く記録媒体導入路に配置される、前記記録媒体の転写面側が前記中間転写体側に凸になるようにカール矯正するカール矯正手段と、
前記転写器の下流側に隣接し、前記転写器により転写された前記記録媒体の部分を、前記中間転写体より離間するように除電する分離放電手段と、
前記記録媒体が前記中間転写体表面に付着して、前記分離放電手段による除電域を越えて搬送された際に、前記記録媒体の前記進行方向先端部を検出する検出手段とを備え、
前記検出手段が前記記録媒体を検出した際には、前記搬送手段による前記記録媒体の搬送を停止するように構成したことを要旨とする。

本発明は、前記中間転写体側へ前記記録媒体を導く記録媒体導入路に配置される、前記記録媒体の転写面側が前記中間転写体側に凸になるようにカール矯正するカール矯正手段を有している。

このカール矯正手段は記録媒体のカーリング習性を付与するものであり、例えば、一対の弾性ローラとその弾性ローラより小径の剛性ローラとにより構成し、所定の線圧以上を加えることにより、記録媒体の塑性変形が起こり、前記中間転写体側に凸になるようにカール矯正を行うことができる。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、図面に基づいて本発明の実施の形態を例示的に詳しく説明する。但しこの実施の形態に記載されている構成部品の寸法、材質、形状、その相対配置などは特に特定的な記載がない限りは、この発明の範囲をそれのみに限定する趣旨ではなく単なる説明例に過ぎない。

図1は、本発明の実施の形態にかかる画像形成装置の要部断面図を示す。以下、本発明の実施の形態を図面に基づいて詳細に説明する。
感光体ドラム1はアモルファスシリコンでφ80mmで形成され、感光体ドラム1の周りに、回転方向に沿って、帯電器3、光走査ユニット2、現像剤容器を含んだ4個の現像装置4Y(イエロー用)、4M(マゼンタ用)、4C(シアン用)、4K(ブラック用)、第1除電器13、中間転写体5、クリーニング装置6、第2除電器4が配設されている。

そして、中間転写体5の表面に付着した記録媒体の先端が離間する際にこの検出手段11に引っかかり先端部分が折れないように中間転写体5の表面より所定距離(例えば、5mm以上)離間して配置することが望ましい。

図1に示す感光体ドラム1は1回転毎に現像器4Kから、4C、4Mを経て4Yが現像を行い、順次中間転写体上に積層転写され、中間転写体5表面に形成された多色トナー像は、中間転写体5の回動により第2次転写位置T2に接近し、レジストローラ対7a,7bは多色トナー像の先端が第2次転写位置T2に接近するのに同期して記録媒体8を搬送するとともに、これに同期して転写ローラ9が中間転写体5表面を押圧する。
