コンパクトで再生音域が広く確保できるバスレフ型スピーカが利用されている。とりわけ車載用には省スペース化が要求されるため、オーディオ・ビジュアル機器やナビゲーション装置のスピーカとしてバスレフ型スピーカを活用することが有効である。しかし、これらを含めて車輌の室内に設けられる各種機器(表示機器や音声画像機器等)が増加しており、各機器には一層の外形寸法のコンパクト化が求められている。また、車載用の場合車輌の振動などによりスピーカが車体から外れないように、家庭用に比べて強固に固定する必要があり、この取付けのための構造もスピーカの小型化を阻む原因になっていた。
