本発明の目的は、皮膚に適用して安全であると共に、美白作用がある有効な成分を含んだ化粧品、医薬部外品、医薬品、食品を提供することである。

本発明者らは、前記の課題を解決するため、すでに多年にわたって食用に供され、人体に対する安全性が確認されている植物をスクリーニングして調べ、化粧品として利用価値のあるものを検討した。
その結果、鳳尾草(Pteris multifida Poir)の全草の抽出物が非常に化粧品原料として、或いは医薬部外品、医薬品、食品の原料としての有効性を有することを見出した。
