【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は電子写真方式プリンタ等の画像形成装置の出力部分に取り付けられるシート後処理装置に関するものである。

【従来の技術】
従来のシート後処理装置においては、上下動可能なトレイとトレイ外に配置されトレイ上に積載されたシートの幅方向位置を揃える為のガイドを有する場合、トレイの上昇により、ガイドの保持部とトレイ上の積載シート等の間で指などが挟まれないよう指などの挿入を防ぐ保護カバーが設けられるのが一般的である。また、ガイド自体は、トレイ上に搬送されるシートに近接して設けられており、ガイドの近傍に保護カバー等を設けようとするとトレイ上へのシート送りの妨げになる為、ガイド自体を退避させる事により指などが挟まれるのを防ぐ構成を、既に出願済み(特願2001−288088)である。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながら、ガイド自体を退避させる機能は、トレイの上下移動可能量よりもガイド自体の退避可能量を大きくするのは通常難しい為、ガイドとトレイまたは積載シート間にガイド自体の退避可能量よりも大きなものが入った場合、ガイド自体は退避することが出来ずに挿入物を挟み込んでしまうという障害が生じてしまう。

また、ガイドとトレイまたは積載シート間に指などが挿入されるのを防ぐ保護カバーを設けようとすると、トレイ上へのシート送りの妨げにならないようにする為に、トレイ全体を囲うような大きなカバーとなってしまい、コストも上がる。

本発明は、トレイ上に積載されたシートの幅方向位置を揃える機構部に、確実に指等が挟まる危険を回避できて、安価で且つ、構造の簡単な機能を備えたシート後処理装置を提供することを目的とする。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上記目的は、画像形成装置の出力部分に取り付けられ、排出されたシートを積載するトレイが上下動可能で且つトレイに積載されるシートの上面または前記トレイの上面が所定位置で止まるように構成され、前記トレイ上に積載されるシートのシート送り方向に垂直なシート幅方向の積載位置ずれを抑えるガイドが積載されたシートの上面幅方向両端部に近接して前記トレイ外に設けられ、用紙揃え装置の内部へ指などの挿入を防ぐ保護カバーが設けられ、該保護カバーは開閉可能であって、前記保護カバーを開けた場合、前記トレイの上下動が停止するように構成したシート後処理装置において、前記ガイドを上下動可能とし、該ガイドが所定位置に上昇した時に前記保護カバーを押し開くようにすることによって達成される。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下図面を参照して本発明の実施例を説明する。図1は本発明に係るシート後処理装置の要部構成図である。図1(a)において、フィニッシャー1には、用紙揃え装置2が取り付けられ、排紙ローラ3より導かれた用紙4は、用紙揃え装置2のトレイ6に近接するガイド5によりトレイ6への用紙幅方向の落下位置を整えられ、トレイ6に落下着地する。また、用紙揃え装置2を囲う様に、用紙揃え装置2の内部へ指などの挿入を防ぐ開閉可能な保護カバー7が取り付けられ、保護カバー7の下部には保護カバー7の開閉を検知するスイッチ8が配置されている。図1(b)は、トレイ6上に用紙が積載された状態図であり、用紙4がトレイ6上に積載していくと、用紙の有無を検知するセンサ部10が押されることによりトレイ6が下降し、用紙の上面は所定位置に保たれ、積載用紙とガイド5は常に近接し、安定した用紙揃え機能を発揮できる。
