環状刃体の彫刻刀は、幹内部の空洞を削るのにも適しており、押切りでは最後に刃が突き刺さった状態になることもあるが、引切りの彫刻刀は、手首の動く湾曲方向に操作しやすいことで、そのような不都合も無くて、人間工学的にも合っている。
この彫刻刀は、図1で示す取手の両側壁を、親指の腹と折り曲げた状態の中指の側方とで挟むと共に、伸ばした人差指の腹で取手の上側を押えた状態で用いる。すなわち、親指と人差指及び中指の3点で取手を支持するが、図1で示す指掛38には、中指の内側を掛けた状態で支持すると、引切り作業中に取手から手が滑ってしまうことが無くなる。
また、このような状態で指掛38に薬指を掛けると、中指を掛けた状態よりも取手の先端側を支持した状態になる。指掛38に小指を掛けると、更に取手の先端を支持したことになるので、環状刃体を強く押し付けたい場合には、人差し指がより先端に近い方に位置させると良い。
このように取手の握る位置を変えて支持すると、握る位置によっては深く削ったり、より奥部を削ったりの選択が可能となる。また引切りだけではなく環状刃体はその全周に刃があるので、横方向の削りも可能となる作用や、指掛の取付位置を変えることで、利き手に対応できる作用も持っている。
この環状刃体よりなる彫刻刀は、直線部分の刃が無くて、あったとしても環内側に湾曲した状態で設けられているから、誤って落下させたとしても危険性が少ない。
以上説明した取手は、片手の操作だけで行う引切り用の道具に好適するものであり、彫刻刀だけではなくて、小形の鋸や他の道具の取手などにも使用できるものである。

That is, the handle is supported by the thumb, the index finger, and the middle finger, but if the finger hook 38 shown in FIG. 1 is supported with the inner finger hung, the hand slips from the handle during the pulling operation. Further, when the ring finger is put on the finger hook 38 in such a state, the leading end side of the handle is supported more than the state where the middle finger is put on. When the little finger is put on the finger hook 38, the tip of the handle is further supported. Therefore, when the annular blade is to be pressed strongly, the index finger is preferably positioned closer to the tip.
When the gripping position of the handle is changed and supported in this manner, it is possible to select whether to sharpen or deepen the back depending on the gripping position. In addition to the pulling, the annular blade body has a blade on the entire circumference thereof, so that it can be cut in the horizontal direction and can be used for a dominant hand by changing the mounting position of the finger hook.
The engraving sword made of this annular blade body has no blade at the straight portion and is provided in a curved state inside the ring, if any, and therefore has little danger even if it is accidentally dropped.
The handle described above is suitable for a cutting tool that is operated only by one-hand operation, and can be used not only for a sword but also for a small saw or a handle for other tools.
