Description
(作用)
本発明のバックライトでは、側面発光型の発光素子が出射した光は、その周囲の導光板の凹部から導光板に入射し、導光板を伝播しながら各発光素子が出射した光の混合が生じる。すなわち、導光板の凹部が溝状凹部の場合には、側面発光型の発光素子の出射された光が発光素子の両側の導光板に入射して、光の混合が生じる。また、導光板の凹部が穴状凹部の場合には、側面発光型の発光素子の周囲の全方位へ出射された光が導光板に入射して、光の混合が生じる。
導光板3は、上面、下面及びその間の端面32を有し、下面には凹部が形成され、入射された光を混合し上面から照射光として出射する。本実施の形態では導光板3の凹部は、溝状凹部3Aとしている。導光板3の下面(溝状凹部3Aが形成されている面)には、ドット、シボ等の拡散・反射手段31が講じてあり、導光板3内に入射した光を拡散するとともに、導光板3の出射面側へと反射する。さらに、導光板3の下面には反射シート4を配置しており、導光板3の上面には拡散シート5を配置している。このような導光板3の溝状凹部3Aに、LEDアレイ基板2に配列された側面発光型LED1R、LED1G及び1Bを配置している。また、必要に応じて、導光板3の側端面32には、白色あるいは鏡面の反射シート41を配置しても良く、更には、導光板3の側端面32がその上面あるいは下面の方向に傾斜していても良い。

Claims (10)
- 上面、下面及びその間の端面を有する導光板であって、前記下面には凹部が形成され、前記凹部と前記端面との間の前記下面には傾斜が緩やかな緩傾斜面と傾斜が急な急傾斜面とが交互に設けられ、入射された光を混合し前記上面から照射光を出射する導光板と、アレイ基板に配列して搭載された複数の側面発光型発光素子であって、前記導光板の前記凹部に配置される複数の側面発光型発光素子とを備え、
複数の側面発光型発光素子から前記導光板に入射された光は前記導光板の前記下面の前記緩傾斜面と前記導光板の前記上面とで前記導光板内を反射によって伝播し、前記導光板の前記端面で反射し、前記導光板の前記下面の前記急傾斜面で上方に反射され前記導光板の前記上面から前記照射光として出射されることを特徴とするバックライト。 - 前記導光板の凹部は溝状凹部であり、前記溝状凹部に前記複数の側面発光型発光素子が配置されていることを特徴とする請求項1記載のバックライト。
- 前記導光板の溝状凹部は前記導光板を貫通しており、前記溝状凹部に前記複数の側面発光型発光素子が配置されていることを特徴とする請求項2記載のバックライト。
- 前記導光板の前記下面には前記凹部から前記導光板の両方の端面に向かって、それぞれ前記緩傾斜面と前記急傾斜面とが交互に設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1又は請求項2記載のバックライト。
- 前記導光板の凹部は複数の穴状凹部であり、前記複数の穴状凹部に前記複数の側面発光型発光素子がそれぞれ配置されることを特徴とする請求項1記載のバックライト。
- 前記複数の側面発光型発光素子は、側面発光型発光ダイオードであることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか一項に記載のバックライト。
- 前記複数の側面発光型発光素子は、側面発光型赤色LED、側面発光型緑色LED及び側面発光型青色LEDであることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項6のいずれか一項に記載のバックライト。
- 上面、下面及びその間の端面を有する導光板であって、前記下面には凹部が形成され、前記凹部と前記端面との間の前記下面には傾斜が緩やかな緩傾斜面と傾斜が急な急傾斜面とが交互に設けられ、入射された光を混合し前記上面から照射光を出射する導光板、及びアレイ基板に配列されて搭載された複数の側面発光型発光素子であって、前記導光板の前記凹部に配置される複数の側面発光型発光素子を備えるバックライトと、前記バックライトの照射光を受ける液晶パネルと、前記バックライト及び前記液晶パネルを収容するフレームとを有し、
複数の側面発光型発光素子から前記バックライトの前記導光板に入射された光は前記導光板の前記下面の前記緩傾斜面と前記導光板の前記上面とで前記導光板内を反射によって伝播し、前記導光板の前記端面で反射し、前記導光板の前記下面の前記急傾斜面で上方に反射され前記導光板の前記上面から前記照射光として出射されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記バックライトが複数個併設して設けられ、これら複数個のバックライトからの照射光を前記液晶パネルが受けることを特徴とする請求項8記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記複数個のバックライトは順次点灯されることを特徴とする請求項9記載の液晶表示装置。
