Description
本発明の一実施形態について図1(a)ないし図1(d)、図2、図3(a)ないし図4(f)、図5および図6に基づいて説明すると以下の通りである。尚、本実施の形態にかかる表示装置は、複数のドメインに分割された垂直配向(VA)モードの液晶パネルを有するものである。そして、本表示装置は、外部から入力された画像信号を液晶パネルに表示する液晶モニターとして機能するものである。
((T−T0)/(Tmax−T0))=(L/Lmax)^γ・・・(1)
ここで、Lは1フレームで画像を表示する場合(通常ホールド表示で画像を表示する場合)の信号階調(フレーム階調)、Lmaxは最大の輝度階調(255)、Tは表示輝度、Tmaxは最大輝度(L=Lmax=255のときの輝度;白)、T0は最小輝度(L=0のときの輝度;黒)、γは補正値(通常2.2)である。
なお、実際の液晶パネル21では、T0=0ではない。しかしながら、説明を簡略化するため、以下では、T0=0とする。
(a)「前半サブフレームおよび後半サブフレームのそれぞれにおいて表示部14によって表示される画像の輝度(表示輝度)の総和(1フレームにおける積分輝度)を、通常ホールド表示を行う場合の1フレームの表示輝度と等しくする」
(b)「一方のサブフレームを黒(最小輝度)、または白(最大輝度)にする」を満たすように階調表現を行うように設計されている。

とするように、制御部15は、前段LUT12および後段LUT13を用いて前段表示信号および後段表示信号を設定する。

とする。
Claims (4)
- 1フレームを、複数のサブフレームに時分割して画像表示を行う表示装置において、
入力された表示信号の階調データに基づいた輝度の画像を表示する表示部と、
表示装置の外部から入力される画像信号を、各フレームの垂直同期期間が一定とならないような誤差を含む可能性がある方法で、上記表示部での表示が可能なフォーマットに変換するフォーマット変換部と、
上記フォーマット変換部によってフォーマット変換された画像信号に基づいて、1フレームに表示部から出力される輝度の総和をフレームの分割によって変えないように、各サブフレームの表示信号を生成し、表示部に出力する制御部とを備えており、
上記制御部は、最後のサブフレームを除いた他のサブフレームのみを用いての表示が可能な階調範囲では、最後のサブフレームの輝度が最小輝度となるように各サブフレームの表示信号を生成するものであり、
上記サブフレームの分割比が非均等であり、かつ、最も期間が短いサブフレームが最後のサブフレームとなっていることを特徴とする表示装置。 - 1フレームが、前半サブフレームと後半サブフレームとの2つのサブフレームに分割されており、かつ、前半サブフレームの期間が後半サブフレームの期間よりも長いことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 上記表示部が、液晶パネルによって画像を表示するように設定されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 請求項1に記載の表示装置と、
テレビ放送信号のチャネルを選択し、選択されたチャネルのテレビ画像信号を制御部に伝達するためのチューナ部とを備え、
表示装置の制御部が、このテレビ画像信号に基づいて表示信号を生成するように設計されていることを特徴とするテレビジョン受像機。
