Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a dry toner for electrophotography used in an electrophotographic copying machine and a printer.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Dry developers are roughly classified into one-component developers that use toner in which a colorant is dispersed in a binder resin, and two-component developers that use a carrier mixed with the toner. A one-component development system has been put into practical use, and a two-component development system has been put into practical use as the latter. In either case, when copying, the electrostatic latent image formed on the photoreceptor is developed with these developers, and the toner on the photoreceptor is transferred to a transfer material such as paper.
[0003]
In such a dry development system, hydrophobic silica is attached to the toner surface in order to improve the fluidity of the toner. However, in the case of negative polarity toner, the chargeability is too high and the image density is too high. There was a problem that there were cases where it could not be obtained sufficiently. Further, there is a problem that strongly charged silica becomes a nucleus on the photosensitive member, and toner components are deposited on the core, whereby black spots are generated on the photosensitive member to cause image defects. In addition, it has been proposed to prevent the image density from decreasing by attaching titanium oxide to the surface of the toner particles to control the toner charge amount to a low level. It has been difficult to sufficiently prevent the generation of sunspots.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to provide an electrophotographic dry toner which does not cause a decrease in image density even when a large number of continuous copies are made, and has few black spots on a photoreceptor.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
As a result of diligent examination of such problems, the present inventors provide an electrophotographic toner that does not cause a decrease in image density and can prevent the occurrence of black spots on the photoreceptor, the outline of which is described below. It is as follows.
(1) In an electrophotographic toner mainly composed of toner particles containing at least a binder resin and a colorant, a composite oxide (TiO 2 —SiO 2 ) of titanium oxide and silica is formed on the surface of the toner particles. 2) Ri Na adhered to, in that the composite oxide is a sintered material produced by vapor-phase process as a constituent of titanium oxide and silica, ceramic and titanium oxide and silica are bonded A dry toner for electrophotography.
(2 ) The description of (1) above, wherein 0.05 to 5 parts by weight of a composite oxide of titanium oxide and silica (TiO 2 —SiO 2 ) is attached to 100 parts by weight of toner particles. Dry toner for electrophotography.
[0006]
The present invention will be described in detail below. First, the toner particles constituting the present invention are mainly composed of a binder resin and a colorant. Various conventionally known resins can be used as the resin. For example, polystyrene, poly-P-chlorostyrene, poly-α-methylstyrene, styrene-chlorostyrene copolymer, styrene-propylene copolymer, styrene-vinyltoluene copolymer, styrene-vinylnaphthalene copolymer, styrene -Methyl acrylate copolymer, styrene-ethyl acrylate copolymer, styrene-butyl acrylate copolymer, styrene-octyl acrylate copolymer, styrene-methyl methacrylate copolymer, styrene-ethyl methacrylate copolymer Polymer, styrene-butyl methacrylate copolymer, styrene-α-chloromethyl methacrylate copolymer, styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer, styrene-vinyl methyl ether copolymer, styrene-vinyl ethyl ether copolymer, styrene -Vinyl ethyl ketone copolymer, Styrene-butadiene copolymer, styrene-acrylonitrile-indene copolymer, styrene-maleic acid copolymer, styrene copolymer such as styrene-maleic acid ester, polymethyl methacrylate, polyethyl methacrylate, polybutyl methacrylate, Copolymers, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, polyurethane, polyamide, epoxy resin, polyvinyl butyral resin, rosin, modified rosin, terpene resin, phenol resin, aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon Resin, aromatic petroleum resin, chlorinated paraffin, paraffin wax and the like are used alone or in combination.
[0007]
Colorants include carbon black, aniline black, aniline blue, calcoil blue, chrome yellow, ultramarine blue, dupont oil red, quinoline yellow, methylene blue chloride, phthalocyanine blue, malachite green oxalate, lamp black, rose bengal, rhodamine. And dyes, pigments, anthraquinone dyes, monoazo and disazo dyes, and quinacridone magenta pigments.
[0008]
When the colorant is carbon black, it is preferable that the primary particle diameter is 25 to 70 nm, particularly 30 to 55 nm, and the specific surface area is 110 m 2 / g or less. When such carbon black is used, crushability by melting and kneading and dispersibility with other materials are good.
The content of the colorant may be an amount sufficient to color a toner capable of forming a visible image by development, and is preferably 2 to 20 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of the binder resin, for example. If it is less than 2 parts by weight, the coloring effect is insufficient, and if it is more than 20 parts by weight, it is too much for the purpose of coloring and the toner performance is lowered.
[0009]
The composite oxide (TiO 2 —SiO 2 ) of titanium oxide and silica used in the present invention is a sintered product produced by a vapor phase method containing titanium oxide and silica as constituent components. Is a ceramic of uniform structure with strong bonding. Specifically, F-1S02, F-4S05, F-4S20 and F-6S10 marketed under the trade names of Showa Denko KK shown in Table 1 can be used in the present invention.
In the present invention, the adhesion of the composite oxide to the surface of the toner particles means that the toner particles and the composite oxide are mixed and stirred with a stirrer, and the surface of the particles is coated with the composite oxide. It may be attached in a state, or a mixture of the two may be put into a particle surface reformer and a part of the composite oxide fine particles may be buried in the surface of the particle.
[0010]
[Table 1]
[0011]
The composite oxide of titanium oxide and silica is preferably attached in an amount of 0.05 to 5 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of the toner particles. If the composite is less than 0.05 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of the toner particles, black spots are not sufficiently prevented from being generated, and if it exceeds 5 parts by weight, fogging is unfavorable.
[0012]
The electrophotographic dry toner of the present invention may contain other additives such as a charge control agent and a release agent. Examples of charge control agents include metal-containing azo dyes, salicylic acid metal complexes, nigrosine dyes, quaternary ammonium salts, triphenylmethane control agents, oil-soluble dyes such as oil black, naphthenic acid, salicylic acid, octylic acid, and Examples thereof include metal salts such as manganese, cobalt, iron, zinc, aluminum, lead, and alkylsalicylic acid metal chelates.
[0013]
In the electrophotographic dry toner of the present invention, when a release agent (lubricant) is used as another additive, for example, polyalkylene wax such as low molecular weight polypropylene and low molecular weight polyethylene, paraffin wax, higher fatty acid, fatty acid amide Etc. The addition amount is preferably 0.1 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of the binder resin. As a method of incorporating a charge control agent, a release agent and the like into the toner, there are an internal addition method added to the inside of the toner and a method of adhering to the surface of the toner particles, but the internal addition is common. In addition, a higher fatty acid, a metal salt thereof, or the like may be added as appropriate in order to protect the photoreceptor and prevent deterioration of development characteristics to obtain a high-quality image.
[0014]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to Examples and Comparative Examples. In the following examples, “part” means “part by weight”. First, an example of blending toner particles is shown below, and then, the toner of the example in which a composite oxide (TiO 2 —SiO 2 ) of titanium oxide and silica used in the present invention is attached to the toner particles, The toner of the comparative example which made the toner adhere | attached on the toner particle | grains which used only the property silica, or this and titanium oxide together is mentioned. A developer was prepared by mixing 5 parts of the toner obtained in Examples 1 and 2 and Comparative Examples 1, 2 and 3 with 95 parts of ferrite carrier having an average particle diameter of 90 μm, and a commercially available two-component development system was used. 50,000 copies were continuously made with a copying machine (copy speed: 60 sheets / minute of horizontal A4 paper), and the image characteristics before and after the continuous copy were examined. The results are shown in Table 2.
The image density was evaluated by a Macbeth reflection densitometer, and the fog was evaluated by Hunter whiteness. Further, black dots are determined by visual judgment, ○ indicates no occurrence, and × indicates occurrence.

[Table 2]
[0029]
According to this, in Examples 1 and 2, a large difference was not recognized before and after 50,000 copies, and it was good. On the other hand, in Comparative Example 1, the image density was low and shifted from the initial level, and a large number of black spots were generated on the photosensitive member, and black spots were also observed on the image. In Comparative Example 2, the initial state was good, but after 50,000 sheets black spots were generated as in Comparative Example 1. In Comparative Example 3, countless black spots were generated after 50,000 sheets.
[0030]
<Evaluation Test 2: Non-magnetic one-component development method>
For each of the toners of Examples 3 and 4 and Comparative Examples 4, 5, and 6, 5 was successively obtained using a commercially available laser printer (trade name: Multiwriter 2000XE manufactured by NEC) using a non-magnetic one-component developing method. 1,000 prints were made, and the image characteristics before and after that were examined. The results are as shown in Table 3.
Even in this case, the image density was evaluated by a Macbeth reflection densitometer, and the fog was evaluated by Hunter whiteness. Further, black dots are determined by visual judgment, ○ indicates no occurrence, and × indicates occurrence.
[0031]
[Table 3]
[0032]
Examples 3 and 4 were good because there was no significant difference before and after printing 5,000 sheets, but in Comparative Example 4, the image density was lower than the initial level and shifted to an unacceptable level, and black spots were also formed on the photoreceptor. It was seen. In Comparative Example 5, the initial condition was good, but after printing 5,000 sheets, black spots were generated as in Comparative Example 4. In Comparative Example 6, innumerable black spots were generated after printing 5,000 sheets.
[0033]
【The invention's effect】
According to the present invention, it is possible to provide toner at a relatively low cost that has almost the same image density of 5,000 sheets and 50,000 sheets, has little fogging, and has no black spots on the photoreceptor. Can do.
