Description
本発明は、液体材料を蒸発させることによって、様々なアプリケーションに対する蒸発した液体の治験使用(investigational use)を容易にするためのプログラマブルな装置を提供する。

一例を挙げると、約3.12オームの平均内部抵抗を持つ、0.001〜0.020インチの内径/0.018〜0.030インチの外径の304ステンレス鋼チューブ(この例では、抵抗が全ての温度に対して一定であると仮定する)及び2.5ボルトの直流を供給する電圧源に対して、流路223へのエネルギ伝達率は以下のように表される。

ここで、Tは、ケルビン温度である。0。669オームの低温の抵抗(室温の24℃)で、28ゲージ、44mmの長い毛細管を備えるヒータの平均温度のプロットが、その抵抗を関数として、図5に示される。図5に示す値は、ヒータの平均温度を表す。すなわち、ヒータの長さに沿った実際の温度は、銅線からの熱損失及び流体の蒸発等の諸要因によって変動しうる。そして、流路323の端部331及び開放端部325に最も近いヒータの温度は、ヒータの中央よりも低くなる傾向があるだろう。

Claims (11)
- 蒸発した材料を発生する装置であって、
出口を有する少なくとも1つの流路と、
前記流路に液体材料を供給するように動作可能な液体供給部と、
前記蒸発した材料が前記流路の前記出口から外に広がるように、前記流路内の液体の材料を蒸発させるのに十分な温度まで前記流路を加熱するように構成された少なくとも1つのヒータと、
前記流路の前記出口と流体的に伝達し、エアゾールを第1の出口に向けるように構成された第1の流路と、
前記流路の前記出口と流体的に伝達する第2の流路であって、前記第1の流路とは異なり、エアゾールを第2の出口に向けるように構成された第2の流路と、
前記流路の前記出口と流体的に伝達する第1のバルブと、
前記蒸発した材料又はエアゾールが、(i)前記ヒータが不適合な条件にある場合には、前記第1の流路を通って流れ、(ii)前記ヒータが適合な条件にある場合には、前記第2の流路を通って流れるように、前記第1のバルブの動作を制御するように動作可能なコントローラと、
を備えることを特徴とする装置。 - 前記蒸発した材料が空気と混合してエアゾールを形成することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記第1の出口は、前記第1の流路と流体的に伝達するポンプを含み、前記蒸発した材料又はエアゾールは、前記ヒータが不適合な条件にある場合には、前記第1のバルブによって前記ポンプに向けられることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記ポンプは、前記蒸発した材料又はエアゾールにフィルタをかけるフィルタを備え、前記ポンプは、フィルタされた空気を環境に排出するか、又は、マウスピースと流体的に伝達する第2のバルブを更に備え、前記コントローラは、空気の流れを前記マウスピースに向ける第2のバルブの動作を制御するように動作可能であることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の装置。
- 前記第2の出口は、出口を有するマウスピースであって、前記第2の流路と流体的に伝達するマウスピースと、
前記マウスピースと流体的に伝達する圧力センサと、
を含み、
前記圧力センサは、ユーザが前記マウスピースの前記出口の上で吸入した場合に、前記コントローラに少なくとも1つの信号を出力することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。 - 前記コントローラは、前記圧力センサが前記マウスピース内で閾値圧力降下を検出した場合に、前記蒸発した材料又はエアゾールが前記第2の流路を通って前記マウスピースに流れ込むように、前記第1のバルブの動作を制御するように動作可能であるか、又は、
前記コントローラは、前記蒸発した材料又はエアゾールが前記第2の流路を通って、選択された期間の間、前記マウスピースに流れ込むように、前記第1のバルブの動作を制御するように動作可能であることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の装置。 - 前記コントローラは、該コントローラが前記圧力センサから前記閾値圧力降下が所定の時間間隔の後に検出されたことを示す信号を受信しない場合には、前記ヒータによって蒸発した材料の形成が終了するようにプログラムされるか、又は、

前記装置に関連したパラメータを格納するように動作可能なメモリと、
を備えることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。 - 前記ヒータは、少なくとも1つの抵抗ヒータであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記ヒータの前記適合な条件は、定常状態の抵抗値であることを特徴とする請求項9に記載の装置。
- 前記ヒータの前記適合な条件が、前記流路の選択された温度範囲であるか、又は、
前記装置は、前記蒸発した材料が空気と混合して前記エアゾールを形成するように構成された空気供給部を含むことを特徴とする請求項9に記載の装置。
