Description
<内蔵位相差板の製造工程>
ここで、平坦化層37及び内蔵位相差板38を形成するための、本実施形態の特徴的な製造プロセスについて説明する。

で示される構造単位(2)を含有して成りそして構造単位(1)が構造単位(1)と構造単位(2)の合計に基づいて100〜70モル%を占める重合体からなるアルカリ可溶性ポリマー、

<本発明による液晶表示装置の形態1>
上記のように構成される液晶表示装置について、その機能を説明する。
上述した液晶表示装置の形態1の変形として、本発明によるVA方式の半透過型液晶表示装置を、図6を参照しながら説明する。図6(a)は、VA方式の半透過型液晶表示装置に形成された画素の一つの断面構造を示し、図6(b)は当該一つの画素の平面構造を示す。図6(a)は、液晶表示装置(その一画素)を、図6(b)に示されるA−A’線で切断した断面として描かれる。図6に示された構成要素のうち、その等価物が図1又は図2でも示されたものについては、図1や図2の等価物と同じ参照番号を付し、説明の重複を避ける。一つの画素は、ブラックマトリクス(遮光膜)35の開口35hで囲まれた領域として定義しても、カラーフィルタ(着色レジスト)36の輪郭(外周)で囲まれた領域として定義してもよい。図6(b)において、信号配線22aは、図示された画素の薄膜トランジスタTFTに接続されていないこと以外、信号配線22と同様に形成されている。図6(b)において、その輪郭が点線枠で示される半導体層25上には、信号配線22の一部と入出力電極24とが互いに対向するように形成されている。信号配線22の一部は、U字状に彎曲して入出力電極24を囲む。
例えば、内蔵位相差板38の形成工程において、内蔵位相差板38を形成する材料、これに照射される光の波長、及びこれに添加される光重合開始剤を適宜選択することにより、内蔵位相差板38及び残留層38nの着色を抑制することができる。

Claims (5)
- 第1基板の位相差板が内蔵された主面と第2基板との間に液晶層を封止し、反射表示部と透過表示部とを備えた半透過型の液晶表示装置の製造方法であって、
前記第1基板の主面に前記位相差板の下地層となる光硬化性樹脂組成物を塗布する下地層塗布ステップと、
マスク露光により前記塗布された光硬化性樹脂組成物の部分的な硬化処理を行い、当該硬化処理後に、当該光硬化性樹脂組成物の未硬化部分を取り除く現像処理を行い、前記硬化された光硬化性樹脂組成物に、前記未硬化部分の除去による凹凸を有する領域と当該凹凸を有しない平坦な領域とを形成する下地層硬化ステップと、
前記硬化された光硬化性樹脂組成物上の前記凹凸を有する領域及び前記平坦な領域に前記位相差板の材料を塗布して加熱硬化し、前記凹凸を形成した領域では、前記凹凸の配向規制力により配向した位相差板を形成し、前記平坦な領域では配向しない残留層を形成する位相差板形成ステップと、
前記位相差板及び前記残留層上に、前記液晶層を配向させる配向膜を形成する配向膜形成ステップと、
をこの順に行うことを特徴とする半透過型の液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 前記下地層硬化ステップでは、前記凹凸を形成する領域には、露光部分と非露光部分とが線状に交互に並ぶように前記マスク露光を行い、前記凹凸として、並んだ複数の溝が形成されることを特徴とする請求項1記載の半透過型の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
- 前記位相差板形成ステップでは、前記位相差板の材料の融点より高く、かつ前記位相差板の材料のネマチック・等方相転移温度より低い温度で加熱することを特徴とする請求項1又は請求項2に記載の半透過型の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
- 前記第1基板は、カラーフィルタを有するとともに、当該カラーフィルタ上に前記下地層が形成されることを特徴とする請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載の半透過型の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
- 前記凹凸を有する領域は、前記反射表示部に形成され、前記平坦な領域は、前記透過表示部に形成されることを特徴とする請求項1乃至4のいずれかに記載の半透過型の液晶表示装置の製造方法。
