Description
‐このようなディスプレイは、携帯電話又はPDAのようなハンドヘルドデバイス用のディスプレイの不所望な性質である、高い電力消費に悩まされる。
‐これらのディスプレイは、前記3次元バリアの透過が角度依存であるので、観察者の場所が明確である応用に限定される。更に、この2次元/3次元技術は、限定された視角に悩まされる。前記観察者は、画面の法線に対して非常に大きな角度で前記バリアを通して見ることができる。デュアルビューモードに対して、これは、結果として2つの異なる画像の混合を生じ、立体3次元モードに対しては、前記観察者が弱い3次元効果を知覚するという事実を生じる。
‐前記組み合わされた2次元/3次元ディスプレイは、大きな画素を持つ非常に単純な上部LCD(パッシブマトリクス)を有し、これは、良い視角に対して容易には最適化されない。これは、良い3次元が観測される位置が空間内で非常に限られていることを意味する。
‐第1のLCDと第2のLCDとの間の距離は、常に、前記第1のLCDの上部プレートのガラスの厚さに前記第2のLCDの底部プレートの厚さを加えたものである。この距離は、通常はかなり大きく、1.4mmであり、結果として視野間の大きな重複を生じる。
‐32インチパネルが現在の標準であるテレビ応用を考慮する場合、前記第2のLCDの前記追加のガラスプレート及び前記偏光子も、パネルコストに実質的に寄与する。
A)第1のシングルビューグレイスケール低電力モード、
B)第2のシングルビューカラーモード、及び
C)第3のマルチプルビューカラーモード
に切り換えることが可能になる。
Claims (12)
- 内側ディスプレイに積み重ねられた外側ディスプレイを有し、少なくとも第1及び第2のビューを表示する第1のマルチプルビュー表示モード及び第2のシングルビュー表示モードで動作されるように構成される表示装置において、前記外側ディスプレイは、前記表示装置が前記第1のマルチプルビュー表示モード及び前記第2のシングルビュー表示モードで動作されることを可能にするように制御可能である電気泳動ディスプレイであり、
前記第1のマルチプルビュー表示モード及び前記第2のシングルビュー表示モードが、前記外側ディスプレイ内の画素の両端間の電位差を制御することによって達成され、前記画素が、少なくとも1つの不透明状態及び1つの透明状態で動作可能であり、
前記第1のマルチプルビュー表示モードは、前記内側ディスプレイを表示状態にし、前記内側ディスプレイが第1の画素において前記第1のビューを表示し、第2の画素において前記第2のビューを表示し、かつ前記外側ディスプレイ内の前記画素の少なくとも1つを前記透明状態にし、前記外側ディスプレイ内の他の画素が前記少なくとも1つの不透明状態にされ、前記不透明状態の画素が、前記第1のビューにおいて前記内側ディスプレイの前記第2の画素を妨げ、前記第2のビューにおいて前記内側ディスプレイの前記第1の画素を妨げることにより達成され、
前記第2のシングルビュー表示モードが、前記内側ディスプレイを表示状態にし、かつ前記外側ディスプレイの前記画素を前記透明状態にすることにより達成され、
前記外側ディスプレイは、前記表示装置が第3の低電力シングルビューモードで動作されることを可能にするように制御可能であるように更に構成され、前記第3の低電力シングルビューモードにおいて、前記表示装置が、前記第2のシングルビュー表示モードより少ない電力を消費し、前記第3の低電力シングルビューモードが、前記電気泳動ディスプレイ内の画素の両端間の電位差を制御することによって達成され、前記画素が、少なくとも2つの不透明状態で動作可能であり、前記第3の低電力シングルビューモードが、前記内側ディスプレイを非表示状態にし、前記外側ディスプレイの各画素を前記不透明状態のいずれかを選択した表示状態にすることにより達成される、表示装置。 - 前記電気泳動ディスプレイが、前記電気泳動ディスプレイに含まれる電気泳動媒体内に配置された荷電粒子を移動させ、これにより前記透明状態又は前記少なくとも2つの不透明状態のいずれか1つが得られるような電位差を実現するために各画素に対応する電極に駆動信号を印加することにより制御可能であるように構成される、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記荷電粒子が、第1の極性の粒子及び第2の極性の粒子を有し、第1の極性の粒子が黒く構成され、第2の極性の粒子が白く構成され、これにより少なくとも2つの不透明状態が得られる、請求項2に記載の表示装置。
- 前記荷電粒子の一部が、黒及び白に代えて、他の色である、請求項3に記載の表示装置。
- 前記荷電粒子が複数の異なる色の粒子を有し、異なる色の粒子が異なる画素内に配置される、請求項2ないし4のいずれか一項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記電極が、前記印加される駆動信号を用いて、それぞれの前記荷電粒子を引き付けるように前記画素に配置された少なくとも2つの電極を有し、これにより、前記透明状態にされるべき画素において粒子の無い領域が作られる、請求項3ないし5のいずれか一項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記少なくとも2つの電極の第1の電極が、前記第1の極性の粒子を引き付け、前記少なくとも2つの電極の第2の電極が、前記第2の極性の粒子を引き付ける、請求項6に記載の表示装置。
- 前記電極が、前記透明状態にするための電極及び前記不透明状態にするための電極を有し、前記透明状態にするための電極の面積が、前記不透明状態にするための電極の面積より実質的に小さい、請求項2ないし5に記載の表示装置。
- 前記内側ディスプレイが放射型ディスプレイである、請求項1ないし8のいずれか一項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記内側ディスプレイがカラー液晶ディスプレイである、請求項1ないし8のいずれか一項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記内側ディスプレイがOLEDディスプレイである、請求項1ないし9のいずれか一項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記外側ディスプレイが、前記内側ディスプレイの解像度より高い解像度を持つように構成される、請求項1ないし11のいずれか一項に記載の表示装置。
