このような折り畳み式の電子機器は、一般的に表示部側の筐体及び操作部側の筐体は、それぞれ折り畳んだ際に内側に位置するケースと、外側に位置するケースとを備え、これら両ケースを互いに嵌め合わせることによって構成されている(例えば、特許文献1参照)。
このような二つのケースからなる一般的な筐体構造では、広い開口部を有しているので、組み立て性や部品の作り易さ(金型制約)に優れているが、ケースの嵌め合わせ面が広くなり、両ケース間の形状の不一致や、ケースの嵌め合わせ面に隙間などが生じるといった問題や、デザインが制約されるという問題があった。
そこで、このような問題を解決する手段として、表示部側の筐体及び操作部側の筐体(ケース)をそれぞれ長手方向の一端面が開口した筒状にすることが知られている(例えば、特許文献2参照)。
