Description
(a)複数の高強度繊維を含み、互いに一方向に配置された複数の糸を用意する工程と;
(b)該糸に約5から約600センチポイズの粘度を有する液体を被覆する工程と;
(c)該糸に張力をかける工程と;
(d)該糸を繊維拡幅装置(fiber spreading device)に通す工程と;
(e)該糸を乾燥する工程と、を含み、
これにより、該繊維拡幅装置の通過後、該糸の厚さが減少して幅が増加し、該糸を形成する該繊維がバラバラに拡げられることにより比較的薄型の一方向に配向した繊維構造体を得る、方法が提供される。

これにより、該繊維拡幅装置の通過後、該糸の厚さが減少して幅が増加し、該糸を形成する該繊維がバラバラに拡げられることにより比較的薄型の一方向に配向した繊維構造体を得る工程と;
(f)該比較的薄型の繊維構造体を別の繊維構造体に貼り付ける工程と、
を含む方法が提供される。

これにより、該繊維拡幅装置の通過後、該糸の厚さが減少して幅が増加し、該糸を形成する該繊維がバラバラに拡げられる、方法が提供される。
本発明を実施するのに適したポリベンザゾール繊維は、例えば、米国特許第5,286,833号、第5,296,185号、第5,356,584号、第5,534,205号及び第6,040,050号に開示されている。ポリベンザゾール繊維は、東洋紡績株式会社からザイロン(登録商標)繊維として市販されている。
好ましくは、被覆用組成物は水系樹脂又は溶媒系樹脂である。あるいは、被覆用組成物は加熱して熱溶融物を得た後に糸に被覆されるワックス又は他の材料であってもよい。さらに、粉末材料を加熱して溶融物にした後、それを糸に被覆することもできる。
所望であれば、1つのプライを異なる種類の1つ又は複数のプライと組み合わせて所望の多プライ構造を形成してもよい。そのような他のプライは、織物、編物、又はフェルト布等の他の種類の不織構造体の形態の高強度繊維で形成することができる。繊維層の布が織物の形態である場合、その織物は、平織、綾織、繻子織、三次元織及びそれらのいくつかの変形のいずれかを含む任意の織目を有していてもよい。平織物が好ましく、縦糸と横糸の太さが等しい平織物がさらに好ましい。織物は縦糸と横糸方向又は他の方向に異なる繊維を有する糸で作製してもよい。
高強度アラミド繊維で形成した糸を使用した。この糸は1000デニールであり、1000本のアラミドフィラメント(帝人社製トワロン1100dtex fl000 2000型)で形成されていた。この糸をスプールから被覆用組成物を保持する容器に送った。6オンス(170グラム)の重量の糸が供給スプールのスピンドルに取り付けられていた。この糸を被覆用組成物に浸漬した後、直径が1インチ(25.4mm)で0.29インチ(7.37mm)だけ離間した2本の平行するステンレス鋼製金属棒で形成された拡幅装置に送った。この糸を第1の拡幅棒の下と、次いで第2の拡幅棒の上に送った。この糸を、剥離フィルムと直面するドラム巻取機に巻き取った。この糸の幅を第2の拡幅棒で測定し、拡幅棒の前で張力を測定した。糸に対する張力は、糸が塗布容器内に移動して巻き取り装置に到達するまで維持した。

ハネウェル・インターナショナル社製(Spectra(登録商標)1000繊維のフィラメント240本で形成された1300デニールの)高強度ポリエチレン糸を使用して実施例1〜9を繰り返した。その結果を以下の表2に示し、図3にグラフで示す。

上記実施例から、高強度ポリエチレン糸は空気中で最も拡がるが、液体媒体を使用する場合には約5から約600センチポイズの範囲の粘度を使用すると有利であることが分かる。
実施例16〜18
東洋紡績株式会社製のザイロン(登録商標)AS A1110Tとして市販されているPBO糸(1000デニール糸1110dtex)を使用して実施例1〜9を繰り返した。その結果を下の表3に示し、図4にグラフで示す。
本発明の範囲の粘度を有する液体でPBO繊維を処理した結果、有意な繊維の拡がりが達成されることが分かる。空気及び水と比較して、PBO繊維を本発明に係る液体で処理することによって繊維の拡がりが向上する。
本発明をより詳細に説明したが、そのような詳細は厳密に従わなければならないものではなく、当業者にはさらなる変更及び修正が可能であり、それらも添付の特許請求の範囲によって定義される本発明の範囲に含まれることが分かる。
Claims (10)
- 高強度繊維を含む一方向に配向した繊維構造体の形成方法であって、
(a)複数の糸を用意する工程、ここで、各糸は複数の高強度繊維を含み、該糸は互いに一方向に配置されている;
(b)該糸に5から600センチポイズの粘度を有する液体を被覆する工程と;
(c)該糸に張力をかける工程と;
(d)該糸を繊維拡幅装置に通して、これによって、該糸の厚さを減少し幅を増加する工程と;
(e)該糸を乾燥する工程と、を含み、
該被覆工程(b)の後、該乾燥工程(e)の前に該繊維拡幅装置の通過後、該糸の厚さが減少して幅が増加し、これにより、一方向に配向した繊維構造体を得る、方法。 - 前記糸の乾燥後に前記糸を巻き取る工程をさらに含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記一方向に配向した繊維構造体が0.35から3ミルの厚さを有する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記高強度繊維が高分子量ポリエチレン繊維、アラミド繊維、ポリベンザゾール繊維及びそれらのブレンドからなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記工程(b)から(e)の間に前記糸に逆張力をかける工程を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記粘度が10から300センチポイズである、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記張力が100から1000グラムである、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記液体が、前記一方向に配向した繊維構造体中の前記繊維のためのマトリックス樹脂を形成する固体を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記一方向に配向した繊維構造体の少なくとも2つのプライを交差して貼り合わせる工程をさらに含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記繊維拡幅装置が複数の繊維拡幅棒を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
