Description
図1は、本発明の第1の実施形態に係る液晶表示装置を示す断面図である。液晶表示装置は、第1基板10を有する。第1基板10は、光透過性を有し、ガラスや樹脂などからなる。第1基板10の一方の面(図1では下面)には、第1偏光板12が貼り付けられている。第1偏光板12は、特定方向に偏光又は偏波した光を通過させる。第1基板10は、薄膜トランジスタ14が形成されているため、TFT(Thin Film Transistor)基板ともよばれる。
図3は、本発明の第2の実施形態に係る液晶表示装置を示す断面図である。本実施形態では、金属電極18と対向するように、第2基板38に光反射膜54が形成されている。例えば、ブラックマトリクス44の液晶材料48側を向く面に光反射膜54が形成されている。光反射膜54は、紫外光を反射し、可視光を透過する。光反射膜54は、酸化アルミニウム又は酸化ゲルマニウムから形成してもよいし、グリセリンを配合した低密度のポリオレフィン系合成樹脂フィルムや、酸化チタン、酸化亜鉛又は酸化セリウムなどの金属をケイ素やフッ素でコーティングした膜などを使用してもよいがこれらに限定されるものではない。その他の構成は、第1の実施形態で説明した内容が該当する。
Claims (9)
- 第1基板と、
第2基板と、
前記第1基板及び前記第2基板の間に挟まれ、高分子組成物と複合化してブルー相を発現する液晶材料と、
前記第1基板に平行な横電界を前記液晶材料に加えるために、前記第1基板に形成された一対の透明電極と、
を含み、
前記高分子組成物は、前記第1基板と前記第2基板の間の方向に密度が異なるように形成され、
少なくとも前記一対の透明電極と重なる領域で、前記高分子組成物の最も密度の高い部分が、前記第2基板よりも前記第1基板の近くに位置し、
少なくとも前記一対の透明電極と重なる前記領域で、前記高分子組成物の前記第1基板に近い部分の密度が、前記第2基板に近い部分の密度よりも高いことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載された液晶表示装置において、
前記第1基板に形成された金属電極をさらに有し、
前記高分子組成物は、前記金属電極と重なる領域を避けて形成され、
前記金属電極と重なる前記領域では、前記液晶材料に光硬化性樹脂が添加されていることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載された液晶表示装置において、
前記第1基板に形成された金属電極と、
前記金属電極と対向するように前記第2基板に形成された光反射膜と、
をさらに有し、
前記金属電極と重なる領域では、前記高分子組成物の前記第2基板に近い部分の密度が、前記第1基板に近い部分の密度よりも高いことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載された液晶表示装置において、
前記第1基板に形成された金属電極と、
前記金属電極と対向するように前記第2基板に形成された光反射膜と、
をさらに有し、
前記金属電極と重なる領域では、前記液晶材料の前記第1基板に近い部分には光硬化性樹脂が添加され、前記液晶材料の前記第2基板に近い部分は前記高分子組成物と複合化していることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項4に記載された液晶表示装置において、
前記光反射膜は、紫外光を反射し、可視光を透過することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 第1基板及び第2基板の間に、光硬化性樹脂が添加された液晶材料を挟み込む工程と、
前記第1基板を通して前記光硬化性樹脂に光を照射する工程と、
を含み、
前記第1基板に平行な横電界を前記液晶材料に加えるために、前記第1基板には一対の透明電極が形成され、
前記光を照射する工程で、前記光からエネルギーを吸収して前記光硬化性樹脂から高分子組成物が生成され、前記光は、前記第1基板から前記第2基板の方向に前記エネルギーを減少させながら進行し、
少なくとも前記一対の透明電極と重なる領域で、前記第2基板よりも前記第1基板の近くに、前記高分子組成物の最も密度の高い部分を生成し、
少なくとも前記一対の透明電極と重なる前記領域で、前記高分子組成物の前記第1基板に近い部分の密度を、前記第2基板に近い部分の密度よりも高くすることを特徴とする液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 請求項6に記載された液晶表示装置の製造方法において、
前記第1基板には金属電極が形成され、
前記光を照射する工程で、前記金属電極は前記光を遮断し、前記高分子組成物を前記金属電極と重なる領域を避けて生成することを特徴とする液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 請求項6に記載された液晶表示装置の製造方法において、
前記第1基板に、前記光を遮断する金属電極が形成され、
前記第2基板には、前記金属電極と対向するように光反射膜が形成され、
前記光を照射する工程で、前記光を、前記光反射膜で反射させて、前記金属電極と重なる領域に入射させることを特徴とする液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 請求項8に記載された液晶表示装置の製造方法において、
前記光として紫外光を使用し、
前記光反射膜は、紫外光を反射し、可視光を透過することを特徴とする液晶表示装置の製造方法。
