Description

(d)湿度依存性。画素を新たな光学的状態に切り替えるのに必要なインパルスは、少なくとも一部の種類の電気光学媒体では周囲湿度に依存する。
(e)機械的均一性。画素を新たな光学的状態に切り替えるのに必要なインパルスは、ディスプレイの機械的なばらつき、例えば電気光学媒体や関連する積層接着剤の厚さのばらつきの影響を受ける場合がある。他の種類の機械的不均一性は、媒体の異なる製造バッチ間の不可避のばらつき、製造上の公差、および材料のばらつきから生じることがある。
(f)電圧誤差。画素に印加される実際のインパルスは、ドライバによって送られる電圧の避けられない僅かな誤差のため、理論的に印加されるインパルスとは必然的に僅かに異なる。

という通常のCIE定義を有し、ただしRは反射率であり、R0は標準反射率値である)の誤差をもたらすと想像されたい。50回の遷移後、この誤差は10L*まで蓄積する。あるいはより現実的には、ディスプレイの理論的反射率と実際の反射率との間の差に関して表される各遷移の平均誤差が±0.2L*だと仮定されたい。100回の連続的遷移後、画素はその予期された状態から2L*の平均偏差を示し、このような偏差はある種の画像では平均的観察者にとって明白である。
GC波形は、nビット画像からnビット画像に遷移する。
DU波形は、nビット(またはnビット未満の)画像をmビット画像に遷移させ、ただしm<=nである。
AU波形は、pビット画像をpビット画像に遷移させ、典型的にはn=4、m=1、およびp=1であり、またはn=4、m=2もしくは1、p=2もしくは1である。

Claims (11)
- 互いに異なる第1の駆動方式および第2の駆動方式を使用して電気光学ディスプレイを動作させる方法において、
前記第1の駆動方式を使用して前記ディスプレイを所定の遷移画像に駆動するステップと、
前記第2の駆動方式を使用して前記ディスプレイを前記遷移画像とは異なる第2の画像に駆動するステップと、
前記第2の駆動方式を使用して前記ディスプレイを同じ遷移画像に駆動するステップと、
前記第1の駆動方式を使用して、前記ディスプレイを駆動するステップが、前記遷移画像とも前記第2の画像とも異なる第3の画像に駆動すること
をこの順序で含み、
前記遷移画像が、前記第1の駆動方式と前記第2の駆動方式との間で共通のグレーレベルを有することを特徴とする、方法。 - 請求項1に記載の方法において、前記第1の駆動方式が、前記ディスプレイを少なくとも4つのグレーレベルに駆動することができるグレースケール駆動方式であることを特徴とする方法。
- 請求項2に記載の方法において、前記第1の駆動方式が、前記ディスプレイを少なくとも8つのグレーレベルに駆動することができるグレースケール駆動方式であることを特徴とする方法。
- 請求項1に記載の方法において、前記第2の駆動方式が、前記第1の駆動方式よりも少ないグレーレベルを有し、前記ディスプレイの飽和パルスの長さよりも短い最大更新時間を有するアプリケーション更新駆動方式であることを特徴とする方法。
- 請求項1に記載の方法において、前記ディスプレイが複数の遷移画像を備え、ディスプレイコントローラが、前記ディスプレイ上に既にある画像に応じて1つの遷移画像を選択するように構成されることを特徴とする方法。
- 請求項1に記載の方法において、前記ディスプレイが、前記第2の画像に駆動される前に、および/または前記第3の画像に駆動される前に、複数の遷移画像に連続して駆動されることを特徴とする方法。
- 請求項1に記載の方法において、前記電気光学ディスプレイが、回転二色部材またはエレクトロクロミック材料を含むことを特徴とする方法。
- 請求項1に記載の方法において、前記電気光学ディスプレイが、流体中に配置され、電場の影響下で前記流体中を移動することができる複数の荷電粒子を含む電気泳動材料を含むことを特徴とする方法。
- 請求項8に記載の方法において、前記荷電粒子および前記流体が、複数のカプセルまたはマイクロセルの中に閉じ込められることを特徴とする方法。
- 請求項8に記載の方法において、前記荷電粒子および前記流体が、ポリマー材料を含む連続相によって取り囲まれる複数の離散液滴として存在することを特徴とする方法。
- 前記流体が気体である、請求項8に記載の方法。
