また、前述の長期的な発生予察に加え、アカヒゲホソミドリカスミカメが水田に侵入する時期を見極め要防除の可否を策定する短期的な発生予察の場合は、出穂期の前後1か月間、1〜2日間隔で粘着プレートに付着した虫数を計測することにより達成できる。

図2に示すアカヒゲホソミドリカスミカメ捕獲装置において、床部材と屋根部材を連結する柱の高さを15cmとし、当該虫の合成性フェロモン0.01mgを含浸させたイソプロピレンゴムを徐放性担体として捕獲装置の梁に取り付けた。合成フェロモンとして、n−ヘキサン酸n−ヘキシルと、n−ヘキサン酸(E)−2−ヘキセニルと、n−ブチル酸n−オクチルの質量比1000:400:30混合物を用いた。この捕獲装置を耕起前水田の雑草地(4箇所)に設置した。そして、これら捕獲装置に捕獲された虫数を5日間継続して数えた(実施例1)。また、この捕獲装置を取付けた同一の雑草地内に、この捕獲装置から10m離れた地点に、前述の合成性フェロモンを放出する担体を備えた図1に示した屋根付き粘着型の捕獲装置を取付け、同期間の捕獲数を計測した(参考例1)。結果を表1に示す。

スペーサをもたない参考例1の捕獲装置は、蛾類の捕獲装置としては一般的で広く利用されているが、アカヒゲホソミドリカスミカメの捕獲には5cm以上の空間が必要である。これは、アカヒゲホソミドリカスミカメが、プルームの下側を飛翔する性質に由来する可能性を示唆するものであり、このような現象は他の昆虫では知られていない。
調査期間中、いずれの捕獲装置にも、大型昆虫は捕獲されなかった。したがって、本願捕獲装置は、調査の妨げとなる大型昆虫が捕獲されず、対象となるアカヒゲホソミドリカスミカメを捕獲することがわかる。
