Description
図1は、EL素子104が形成された素子基板102と、異種金属積層シート108が形成された封止基板106を貼り合わせてエレクトロルミネセンス装置(以下、EL装置ともいう)を作製する態様を示す。図1(C)は封止基板106の上面図であり、図1(A)は、封止基板106の断面図である。図1(D)は素子基板102の上面図であり、図1(B)は素子基板102の断面図である。異種金属積層シート108は、EL素子104が形成された領域にかからないように、封止基板106の外周部に形成される。
実施の形態1において説明したEL素子に適用可能な構成の一態様について、図7を用いて説明する。EL素子として、本実施の形態では一対の電極に挟持された有機EL層を有する発光素子の構成について詳細に説明する。
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様の発光素子である、複数の発光ユニットを積層した構成を有する発光素子(以下、「タンデム型の発光素子」という)について、図7(B)を参照しながら説明する。タンデム型の発光素子は、第1の電極と第2の電極との間に、複数の発光ユニットを有する。発光ユニットとしては、先に示した有機EL層203と同様な構成を用いることができる。
(パッシブマトリクス型のEL装置、及びアクティブマトリクス型のEL装置の説明)
本実施の形態では、本発明の一態様である、異種金属積層シートを用いて作製した、パッシブマトリクス型のEL装置、及びアクティブマトリクス型のEL装置について説明する。
本実施の形態では、上記実施の形態で説明した作製方法で作製したEL装置を用いて作製される電子機器及び、当該EL装置を照明装置として用いる具体例について、図11、図12を用いて説明する。

Claims (3)
- 一対の電極間にエレクトロルミネセンスを発現する材料を含む層が挟まれたEL素子が設けられた素子基板と、該素子基板に対向して張り合わされる封止基板の一方又は双方の外周部に少なくとも二種類の金属層が積層されたシートを挟み込み、
前記素子基板と前記封止基板の一方又は双方において、前記シートと重畳する部分に、フリットガラスペーストの層を設け、
前記シート部分に集光ビームを照射して、該照射部分を加熱することで前記金属層を溶融させて前記素子基板と前記封止基板を貼り合わせることを特徴とするエレクトロルミネセンス装置の作製方法。 - 一対の電極間にエレクトロルミネセンスを発現する材料を含む層が挟まれたEL素子が設けられた素子基板と、該素子基板に対向して張り合わされる封止基板の一方又は双方の外周部に少なくとも二種類の金属層が積層されたシートを挟み込み、
前記素子基板と前記封止基板の一方又は双方において、前記シートと重畳する部分に、ガラスリボンを設け、
前記シート部分に集光ビームを照射して、該照射部分を加熱することで前記金属層を溶融させて前記素子基板と前記封止基板を貼り合わせることを特徴とするエレクトロルミネセンス装置の作製方法。 - 請求項1または請求項2において、
前記集光ビームはレーザビームであることを特徴とするエレクトロルミネセンス装置の作製方法。
