Description

The present invention relates to a friction reducing agent, a coating material containing the friction reducing agent, and a friction reducing method using the friction reducing agent.

A ship receives frictional resistance from seawater during navigation. Further, in piping such as a plant, the liquid flowing through the piping receives frictional resistance from the inner wall of the piping. On the other hand, the Toms effect is known as a phenomenon in which the frictional resistance generated between a liquid and a solid is remarkably reduced when a small amount of a polymer compound is added to the liquid.
Therefore, in order to reduce the frictional resistance that the ship receives from seawater, it has been considered to paint the surface of the ship bottom using the Toms effect. As a polymer compound having the Toms effect, for example, a water-soluble polymer compound such as polyethylene oxide is known, and Patent Documents 1 to 3 disclose a technique of blending a water-soluble polymer compound such as polyethylene oxide into a coating material. It is disclosed. Further, Patent Document 4 describes a coating material using a specific alkali-soluble resin.

In addition, the viscosity (25 ° C.) of the aqueous solution (1) is measured in advance with a B-type viscometer, and the mass of the aqueous solution (1) weighed in a volumetric flask having a volume of 50 mL is measured to calculate the density of the aqueous solution (1). I had it.
On the other hand, the aqueous solution (1) was put into the inner cylinder of the coaxial double cylinder device, the inner cylinder was rotated by a motor, and the torque value applied to the inner cylinder was measured by a torque meter. The rotation speed of the inner cylinder was changed in 100 rpm increments in the range of 300 to 1000 rpm, and the torque value at each rotation speed was measured.
Based on the following formula, the measured torque value T [Nm] was made dimensionless, and the dimensionless torque G was calculated. Then, the resistance reduction rate (DR value,%) was calculated by comparison with the dimensionless torque G w of water. The Reynolds number is defined as follows.

(Results and Discussion)
FIG. 1 shows a graph in which DR [%] (vertical axis) is plotted against Reynolds number Re (horizontal axis) for each of Example 1, Example 2, Comparative Example 1 and Comparative Example 2.
As shown in FIG. 1, in Examples 1 and 2, a large DR [%] was obtained in the turbulent flow region where the Reynolds number Re was several thousands or more.
On the other hand, in Comparative Example 1 and Comparative Example 2, a large DR [%] was not obtained.
It is said that when the Reynolds number Re exceeds 2300, the flow of the liquid becomes turbulent. The fact that the friction reducing effect is recognized in the region where the Reynolds number Re is several thousands or more means that the turbulent flow can be made into a laminar flow, which is of great technical significance.
From the above results, it has been clarified that the water-soluble polymer compound having an ammonium salt structure in the side chain has a friction reducing effect and has excellent performance as a friction reducing agent.

[Examples 3 and 4]
An aqueous solution (5) (Example 3) containing the compound (1a-1) used in Example 1 at a concentration of 50 ppm and an aqueous solution (6) (Example 4) containing at a concentration of 10 ppm were prepared. The resistance reduction rate DR [%] was calculated in the same manner as in Example 1 using each of the aqueous solutions.

(Results and Discussion)
FIG. 2 shows a graph in which DR [%] (vertical axis) is plotted against Reynolds number Re (horizontal axis) for each of Example 1 and Examples 3 and 4.
As shown in FIG. 2, when the concentration of the compound (1a-1) is 50 ppm (Example 3) and 10 ppm (Example 4), a friction reducing effect can be obtained although it is smaller than that when the concentration is 100 ppm. I understood.

The friction-reducing agent of the present invention can greatly reduce the friction resistance of water-based liquids such as water, seawater, and various aqueous solutions. Therefore, by adding the friction-reducing agent of the present invention to a paint for coating the surface of a ship bottom of a hull, the surface of an inner wall of a pipe of a plant or the like, a solid surface in contact with an aqueous liquid, during navigation of a ship or Energy loss when liquid flows through the pipe can be significantly reduced.
