Description
上記ハニカム構造体は、複数のセル(13)を区画形成する格子部(11)と、該格子部の外周を覆う外周部(12)とを有し、
上記格子部の表面及び上記外周部の表面は、上記排気管との絶縁性が維持されるように構成されており、
上記格子部の表面の少なくとも一部及び上記外周部の表面の少なくとも一部には、上記排気管との絶縁性を維持するための絶縁層(20)が設けられており、
上記絶縁層は、上記排気管における排ガスの流れ方向に直交する断面において、上記外周部から上記格子部の中心に向かう所定高さまでの領域に形成されている、電気加熱式触媒にある。
上記電気加熱式触媒の実施形態について、図1〜図5を用いて説明する。
本実施形態の電気加熱式触媒1は、ハニカム構造体10を有し、排ガスが流通する排気管2に配設されるように構成されている。
ハニカム構造体10は、触媒作用を有するとともに通電されて発熱するように構成されている。また、ハニカム構造体10は、複数のセル13を区画形成する格子部11と、該格子部11の外周11aを覆う外周部12とを有する。そして、格子部11の表面及び外周部12の表面は、排気管2との絶縁性が維持されるように構成されている。
図1に示すように、電気加熱式触媒1は、車両100に備えられた排気管2に搭載されている。さらに、車両100には電気加熱式触媒1に電流を印加するEHC電源回路6が設けられている。また、車両100にはエンジン110、ECU120、ハイブリッド用トランスミッション130、インバータ140、高圧バッテリ150を備える。ハイブリッド用トランスミッション130は、発電機131、モータ132、動力分割機構133を備える。
実施形態1では電気加熱式触媒1はUF/Cとして排気管2の水平な部分(図2参照)に設けたが、これに替えて、本実施形態では、図6に示すように、電気加熱式触媒1は、フロント触媒(Front Catalyst:Fr Cat.、図2参照)として、排気管2において下流に向かうほど重力方向Yの下方に位置するように傾斜した部分に設けられている。そして、実施形態1では絶縁層20は格子部11及び外周部12の全域に形成されていたが、本実施形態では、これに替えて、図6に示すように、絶縁層20は、排ガスの流れ方向Fに直交する断面において、外周部12からハニカム構造体10の中心10cを通って流れ方向Fに平行な中心線10dに向かって所定長さh1、h2までの領域に形成されている。そして、図7(a)に示すように、ハニカム構造体10の上流側端部101では、絶縁層20は、外周部12からハニカム構造体10の中心10cに向かって所定高さh1までの領域に形成されており、図7(b)に示すように、ハニカム構造体10下流側端部102では、絶縁層20は、外周部12からハニカム構造体10の中心10cに向かって所定高さh2までの領域に形成されている。本実施形態では、高さh1、h2の大きさは、ハニカム構造体10の流れ方向Fに直交する断面において、例えば当該断面の半径rの4分の1以上半径r未満とすることができる。
本実施形態では、図8に示すように、絶縁層20は、ハニカム構造体10の上流側端部101の全域に形成されている。これにより、排気管2の上流から下流に向けて流れるPMがハニカム構造体10の上流側端部101に大量に堆積しても、ハニカム構造体10と排気管2との間の絶縁性が維持されることとなる。また、ハニカム構造体10において絶縁層20が形成された領域を比較的少なくできるため、圧力損失の増加を防止してエンジン出力の低下を防止できる。
実施形態2では絶縁層20は外周部12から中心10cに向かって所定高さh1、h2の領域に形成したが、これに替えて、本実施形態では、図9、図10に示すように、電気加熱式触媒1を排気管2に設置した状態において、絶縁層20は外周部12の最下部12aから中心線10dに向かう所定高さh1、h2までの領域に形成されている。

Claims (5)
- 触媒作用を有するとともに通電されて発熱するように構成されたハニカム構造体(10)を有し、排ガスが流通する排気管(2)に配設されるように構成された電気加熱式触媒(1)であって、
上記ハニカム構造体は、複数のセル(13)を区画形成する格子部(11)と、該格子部の外周を覆う外周部(12)とを有し、
上記格子部の表面及び上記外周部の表面は、上記排気管との絶縁性が維持されるように構成されており、
上記格子部の表面の少なくとも一部及び上記外周部の表面の少なくとも一部には、上記排気管との絶縁性を維持するための絶縁層(20)が設けられており、
上記絶縁層は、上記排気管における排ガスの流れ方向に直交する断面において、上記外周部から上記格子部の中心に向かう所定高さまでの領域に形成されている、電気加熱式触媒。 - 上記絶縁層は、上記排気管に配設されたときに、上記外周部における重力方向の最下部(12a)の位置から所定高さまでの領域に位置するように構成されている、請求項1に記載の電気加熱式触媒。
- 上記絶縁層は、少なくとも上記流れ方向における上記ハニカム構造体の上流側端部(101)及び下流側端部(102)に形成されており、
上記下流側端部における上記絶縁層の上記外周部からの高さは、上記上流側端部における上記絶縁層の上記外周部からの高さよりも高い、請求項1又は2に記載の電気加熱式触媒。 - 上記絶縁層は、上記格子部の表面及び上記外周部の表面を酸化処理してなる酸化被膜または、上記格子部の表面及び上記外周部の表面に設けられた絶縁性を有するコーティング層からなる、請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の電気加熱式触媒。
- 上記ハニカム構造体は、第1の材料からなる第1材料形成部(17)と上記第1の材料よりも導電性の低い第2の材料からなる第2材料形成部(18)とを有し、
上記絶縁層は、該第2材料形成部により形成されている、請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の電気加熱式触媒。
