Description

The present invention relates to massage cosmetics.

Human brain function and cerebral blood flow are known to change with various external stimuli. For example, it has been confirmed that the amount of blood flowing into the frontal lobe of the brain decreases when listening to pleasant music and relaxing (Non-Patent Document 1). Alternatively, according to Non-Patent Document 2, olfactory stimulation of fresh roses induces hyperparasympathetic nerve activity, suppression of sympathetic nerve activity, and a decrease in oxygenated hemoglobin concentration in the prefrontal cortex, resulting in a physiological and subjective state of relaxation. is stated. Further, Patent Document 1 describes a method of applying cosmetics to the face and massaging the face, in which the hands used for the massage are crossed to increase blood flow in the brain and activate the brain. .
In addition, Patent Document 2 describes that cerebral blood flow fluctuates due to facial muscle and lymphatic massage techniques.

In addition, it is known that incense, in particular, affects brain function.
The olfactory function that senses scents is related to brain activation, inhibition, and calmness. Therefore, in recent years, therapy via the olfactory function has become widely used as aromatherapy or aromatherapy. This uses essential oil aromas and plant-derived aromas to treat illnesses and injuries, prevent illnesses, promote mental and physical health and relaxation, and relieve stress.
However, the details of what components of the aroma of these essential oils are involved in what kind of brain functions have not been elucidated.
Patent Document 3 discloses fennel oil, grapefruit oil, pepper oil, hyssop oil, sage oil, estragon oil, eucalyptus oil, rosemary oil, cinnamon oil, clove oil, ylang-ylang oil, ginger oil, geranium oil and olibanum. It has been described to activate sympathetic nerves.
In Patent Document 4, the scent of a fragrance consisting of a mixture of Koyamaki essential oil, shell ginger essential oil, Japanese peppermint essential oil, and perilla essential oil activates human brain cells, increases concentration, and as a result improves work efficiency. and is said to reduce stress.

Patent Document 5 describes a flavor evaluation method for evaluating the suitability of a flavor based on changes in cerebral blood flow when eating or sniffing a food or drink containing a flavor.
TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to a massage cosmetic for reducing cerebral blood flow containing geraniol as an active ingredient.
Geraniol is a kind of linear monoterpenoids found in geranium and has a structure of Chemical Formula 1 below.

Figure 0007108012000001
Figure 0007108012000001

The IUPAC name for geraniol is 3,7-dimethyl-2,6-octadien-1-ol. Geraniol is mainly known as an aromatic component of essential oils such as rose oil, palmarosa oil and citronella oil. Geraniol is also contained in essential oils such as geranium and lemon. It is a colorless or pale yellow liquid, insoluble in water but soluble in many organic solvents. It has a rose-like fragrance and is widely used in perfumery. It is also used in aromas such as peach, raspberry, grapefruit, apple, plum, lime, orange, lemon, watermelon, pineapple and blueberry. However, until now, it was not known that geraniol reduces cerebral blood flow and induces sleep.

Geraniol used in the present invention may be chemically synthesized or purified from essential oils such as rose and geranium. Unrefined essential oils can also be used, but those containing 50% by mass or more of geraniol are preferred. It is also possible to use a commercial item.
The massage cosmetic of the present invention contains 0.01% by mass or more of geraniol. It is preferably contained in an amount of 0.01 to 5% by mass. More preferably 0.05 to 3% by mass, particularly preferably 0.1 to 1% by mass. Geraniol is generally recognized as a pleasant rose scent, but it may be repelled at high concentrations, so it is desirable not to add more than 5% by weight.
Geraniol is insoluble in water, but is easily dissolved in alcohol such as ethanol. Therefore, it is added to the cosmetic for massage after making an alcohol solution.

There are no particular restrictions on the ingredients to be added to the massage cosmetic of the present invention, as long as it has a composition that allows geraniol to be added as described above. Moreover, there is no problem even if it is in various forms such as liquid, cream, and jelly. Moreover, it may be either an oil-in-water type or a water-in-oil type emulsified composition.

(2) Subjects 4 healthy women who gave consent (average age 34.2 years old)

(3) Test schedule Each subject was divided into two days for measurement, and the measurements were made at the same time between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm as much as possible. As conditions for one day, 1) and 2) were performed on the same day, and 3) and 4) were performed on the same day.

(4) Measurement of cerebral blood flow Equipment used: Near-infrared optical topography OT-R40 manufactured by Hitachi, Ltd. was used to measure the amount of change in oxygenated hemoglobin, which was defined as the amount of change in cerebral blood flow. The measurement procedure is shown in FIG.

(5) Analysis method of measurement results Divided into three events of initial rest, intervention, and rest after intervention, and the average value of oxygenated hemoglobin amount of 52 electrodes was used as the value of each event.

(6) Results Table 1 below and FIG. 3 show how the blood flow changed from the initial resting state.

Figure 0007108012000002
Figure 0007108012000002

As is clear from Table 1 and FIG. 3, the combined use of the product of the present invention and massage was found to clearly reduce cerebral blood flow. In other words, it was confirmed that the cerebral blood flow decreased for a while after the intervention because the amount of oxygenated hemoglobin decreased during rest after the intervention compared to that during the intervention. Therefore, it is clear that a massage cosmetic containing 0.1% by mass or more of geraniol reduces cerebral blood flow.

Test Example 2: Evaluation Test of Effects of Massage Cosmetics on Sleep From Test Example 1, the product of the present invention (geraniol-containing massage cosmetics) was confirmed to have an effect of lowering cerebral blood flow, so the effects on sleep were evaluated.
(1) Study design The following two intervention studies were conducted for the same study collaborators, and a crossover study was conducted.
1) Before going to bed at night, apply only the product of the comparative example, attach a sleep monitor and go to bed. (hereinafter referred to as the control period)
2) Before going to bed at night, massage with the product of the present invention and sleep with a sleep monitor. (Hereafter, intervention period)
An intervention test was conducted for test cooperators, and a comparison was made before and after the intervention.

(2) Subjects 16 women who were aware of mild sleep difficulties (average age 39.6 years old)

(3) Test Schedule Subjects were divided into two groups, A group and B group, and a crossover test was conducted in two periods, a 4-week control period and a 4-week intervention period.

(4) Evaluation of sleep state Equipment used: Sleepscope manufactured by Sleepwell Co., Ltd. was used to measure and evaluate sleep onset latency and sleep efficiency.
Sleep is roughly divided into two types: non-REM sleep, in which cerebral activity is almost stopped, and REM sleep, in which the whole body is in a state of weakness but part of the brain is active and dreaming. These two types of sleep are repeated at regular intervals to form sleep, and sleep onset latency refers to the time from going to bed to the appearance of non-REM sleep. In particular, securing sufficiently deep non-REM sleep in the early stages of sleep brings about efficient sleep. It can be evaluated that the sleep onset was more favorable as the sleep onset latency was shorter.
Sleep efficiency means actual sleep during sleep, and is a value obtained by dividing sleep time (total sleep time) excluding midway awakening during sleep by the time from falling asleep to waking up (total bed time). . Therefore, if there are many awakenings in the middle of the night, sleep efficiency decreases. It can be evaluated that the higher the sleep efficiency, the better.

(5) Analysis method of measurement results Six arbitrary days of the intervention period and the control period were set as the analysis target days, and the average sleep onset latency and sleep efficiency were calculated and evaluated. A paired t-test was performed for the measurement results of the intervention period and the control period (*: P<0.05, **: P<0.01).

(6) Results FIG. 3 shows the measurement results of sleep onset latency, and FIG. 4 shows the measurement results of sleep efficiency. It was confirmed that massage with the product of the present invention (massage cosmetic containing geraniol) significantly shortened the latency to fall asleep and increased sleep efficiency. In other words, it was thought that cerebral blood flow decreased when massage was performed while smelling the scent of geraniol, and as a result, it had a positive effect on sleep.
