Description
The present invention relates to an O/W type (oil-in-water type) emulsion composition. More specifically, the present invention relates to an O/W type emulsion composition that has an excellent feel when used on the skin and when applied.
Ceramide is an intercellular lipid present in the epidermis (stratum corneum) of human skin. It is known that ceramide in the stratum corneum decreases with aging, etc., which causes the skin to dry out and wrinkle, and the barrier function to be weakened, which allows the skin to be penetrated by allergens, resulting in inflammation and itching. Applying ceramide to the skin is effective against such symptoms, but when ceramide is added to a composition for external use, there are problems such as a poor feel when applied, stickiness, and poor skin compatibility. In addition, in areas where dryness and fine wrinkles are likely to occur, such as between the eyebrows, around the eyes, and around the mouth, the feel felt when applying a composition for external use and spreading it with the fingers (application feel) is important, and it is desirable to impart a feeling of application, specifically a feeling of initial resistance (a feeling of the emulsion composition retaining its shape) while gradually blending into the skin (also referred to as a "thickness" in this specification).
As a method for improving the feel of such topical compositions containing ceramide, a technique has been proposed (Patent Document 1) that makes the composition non-sticky and has a good feel by incorporating ceramide and a phosphate triester of a specific structure, but this is still not sufficient and there is room for improvement.
Patent Document 2 describes a technique for imparting a "richness" to an emulsion composition as a sensation similar to the aforementioned "thickness," but does not describe a method for imparting a "richness" to a topical composition that contains ceramide.
The object of the present invention is to provide an O/W type emulsion composition that has an excellent feeling of use and/or application to the skin, specifically, an O/W type emulsion composition that is not sticky during use and is compatible with the skin. Another object of the present invention is to provide an O/W type emulsion composition that has a unique application feeling (thickness) felt when applied to the skin and spread, separately from or in addition to the above-mentioned feeling of use.
The present inventors have conducted intensive research to solve the above problems, and have discovered that, as shown in the experimental examples described below, by combining (A) ceramides, (B) nonionic surfactants, (C) shea butter, and (D) water to prepare an O/W type emulsion composition, it is possible to obtain a topical composition that is excellent in the above-mentioned usability and that has a feeling of application in addition to the above-mentioned usability, thereby completing the present invention. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the above-mentioned effects of the O/W type emulsion composition are further enhanced by blending (E) anionic thickener, (F) hydrocarbon, and/or (G) polyhydric alcohol in addition to the components (A) to (D).

Each of these components will be described below.
(A) Ceramides
The ceramides that are the subject of the present invention include ceramides (natural ceramides, human ceramides, plant ceramides, etc.) as well as ceramide analogues (pseudoceramides, etc.).
FRAGRANCE JOURNAL 2004-11:23-32)。 Here, ceramide is a type of sphingolipid, a general term for a group of compounds in which a long-chain fatty acid is amide-bonded to the amino group of sphingosine. They are subdivided into 11 types (ceramides 1 to 11) based on the difference in the structure of sphingosine (such as the structure of the N-acyl group) and the structure of the long-chain fatty acid (for example, Robson KJ, Stewart ME, Michelsen S, Lazo ND, Downing DT.: 6-Hydroxy-4-sphingenine in human epidermal ceramides. J Lipid Res. 1994 Nov;35(11):2060-8; and Ishida Kenya et al., "Special Feature 1: Ceramides as Functional Raw Materials and Their Applications: Development and Applications of Natural Ceramides: Optically Active Ceramide Preparations Focused on Intercellular Lipids of the Stratum Corneum," FRAGRANCE JOURNAL 2004-11:23-32).
In the present invention, any ceramide can be used as long as it has the above ceramide structure. In addition to animal- or plant-derived ceramides, ceramides obtained by organic synthesis can be used. These ceramides have asymmetric carbons and exist as optically active or racemic (optically inactive) ceramides, and either can be used in the present invention. Optically active ceramides are preferred. Of these, ceramide 1, ceramide 2, and ceramide 3 are particularly preferred. Commercially available ceramides include, for example, ceramide 1 (trade name: CERAMIDE I (manufactured by Evonik Japan Co., Ltd.)), ceramide 2 (trade name: CERAMIDE TIC-001 (manufactured by Takasago International Corporation)), and ceramide 3 (trade name: CERAMIDE III (manufactured by Evonik Japan Co., Ltd.)).
Ceramide analogues include pseudoceramides that have similar structures and properties to ceramide, and extracts and derivatives (sphingosine derivatives) from these components. Experimental Example 1 Preparation and Evaluation of O/W Emulsion Composition
(1) Preparation of test samples O/W type emulsion compositions (Examples 1 to 6, Comparative Example 1) were prepared having the compositions shown in Table 1. Specifically, the aqueous phase (purified water, anionic thickener [acrylic acid/alkyl methacrylate copolymer, carboxyvinyl polymer, xanthan gum], pH adjuster) and oil phase (components other than the aqueous phase components) prepared respectively were mixed and stirred until an emulsified state was obtained, to prepare each O/W type emulsion composition (Examples 1 to 6, Comparative Example 1, all pH 7).
(2) Test method Five panelists specializing in cosmetic evaluation applied each of the O/W emulsion compositions prepared above to the back of the hand under the following test conditions, and evaluated the feel in use (skin compatibility, sticky feeling) and feel on application (thickness) according to the following criteria. For each of Examples 1 to 6 and Comparative Example 1, the scores of the five panelists were totaled for each evaluation item. In addition, the total scores of these evaluation items (skin compatibility, sticky feeling, thick feeling) were added up for each Example (and Comparative Example 1) to obtain an overall evaluation of each O/W emulsion composition.
(a) Test conditions Application environment: temperature 25°C, relative humidity 40-50%
Application method: 0.2 g of the O/W emulsion composition was placed on the back of the hand, and the pad of the index finger of the opposite hand was used to rub the composition into a 2 x 2 cm area in a circular motion.
(b) Evaluation criteria : Skin compatibility
The sensation of the emulsion composition being absorbed into the skin as it is spread with the fingers from the back of the hand is evaluated on a 5-point scale. The highest rating is 5, and the lowest rating is 1, with the evaluation being done in increments of 1 (the same goes for the "sticky feeling" and "thickness" below). Specifically, when the sensation is strong, it is evaluated as "5: good", and as the degree of the sensation weakens, it is evaluated as "4: slightly good", "3: neither good nor bad", "2: slightly bad", and "1: bad". Note that "bad" means that "the composition remains on the skin even after spreading, and it takes a long time to finish applying, so the sensation of absorption into the skin is felt to be bad".
<Sticky feeling>
The sticky feeling felt on the application site on the back of the hand after applying the emulsion composition was evaluated on a 5-point scale. Specifically, when there was no or almost no sticky feeling, it was rated as "5: good", and as the sticky feeling increased, it was rated as "4: slightly good", "3: neither good nor bad", "2: slightly bad", and "1: bad".
<厚み感>
<Thickness>
"Shape retention of the emulsion composition placed on the back of the hand,""feel when spreading," and "feel of application on the skin after application" were each evaluated on a 5-point scale based on the following criteria.
