Description

本出願は２０２１年１０月１８日付の韓国特許出願第２０２１－０１３８２６６号に基づく優先権の利益を主張し、当該韓国特許出願に開示されたすべての内容はこの明細書の一部として含まれる。
本発明はエンボスパターンが形成されたシーリング部を含む電池セル及びこれを製造するためのシーリングブロックに関するものである。具体的には、パウチ型電池セルのシーリング部が容易にベンティングされることを防止するためにエンボスパターンが形成されたシーリング部を含む電池セル及びこれを製造するためのシーリングブロックに関するものである。
充放電可能なリチウム二次電池は、ワイヤレスモバイル機器（ｗｉｒｅｌｅｓｓ ｍｏｂｉｌｅ ｄｅｖｉｃｅ）または身体に着用するウェアラブル機器（ｗｅａｒａｂｌｅ ｄｅｖｉｃｅ）のエネルギー源として広範囲に使われているだけではなく、大気汚染を引き起こす既存のガソリン車両及びディーゼル車両に対する代案として提示される電気自動車、ハイブリッド電気自動車などのエネルギー源としても使われている。
リチウム二次電池は、電池ケースの素材及び形態によって、金属缶に電極組立体を内蔵する円筒型電池セル及び角型電池セル、並びにラミネートシートからなる電池ケースに電極組立体を内蔵するパウチ型電池セルに分類することができ、前記パウチ型電池セルは形態変形が自由であり、エネルギー密度が高いという利点がある。
パウチ型電池セルを密封するために、高温のシーリングブロックで電池ケースの外周辺を押圧してシーリング部を形成する方法を用いるが、このような密封方法は、パウチ型電池セルの内部圧力が増加する場合、ベンティングが発生しやすい形態を提供する。
したがって、パウチ型電池セルの密封性を向上させるための方法が試みられている。
特許文献１は、金属箔層、腐食防止処理層及びシーラント層が順次積層された蓄電デバイス用外装材によって形成される封止された容器体において、前記シーラント層同士接触している縁部がヒートシールされて封止され、前記縁部に凹条の薄部が形成された蓄電デバイスを開示する。
特許文献１は、ヒートシールされた封止部に薄部を形成することで、縁部が容易に折り曲げられるようにしている。
特許文献２は、少なくとも熱融着性樹脂層と金属薄膜層とが積層され、前記熱融着性樹脂層を内側にして電池要素を取り囲み、周辺の接合部が熱融着することによって電池要素を密封する外装体フィルムを含み、前記接合部に少なくとも一つの折曲部が形成され、前記折曲部の厚さが前記接合部で前記折曲部の周囲の厚さより薄いフィルム外装電池を開示する。
特許文献２は、外装体フィルムの接合部に相対的に小さい厚さを有する折曲部を形成することで、接合部の内側及び外側でのフィルムの伸張差によって折曲部分でクラックなどが発生することを防止している。
特許文献３は、パウチ型電池ケースを密封するために、連続的に遂行されるプレシーリング及びメインシーリングにおいてプレシーリングを遂行するための装置であって、電池ケース用シート部材の外周辺の一面及び他面を互いに加熱及び押圧してプレシーリング部を形成するプレス、及びシート部材を固定するための固定部を含む一対のシーリングブロックを備え、前記プレスにはシーリング突起が外側に突出した形状に形成され、前記シーリング突起は外側端部が垂直断面上でラウンド形になったシーリング装置を開示する
特許文献３は、メインシーリングに先立ってプレシーリングを遂行することで、電池セルの外面にしわが発生することを減少させている。
しかし、これらの特許文献はパウチ型電池セルの密封力を向上させることができる構造を容易に備えることができる技術を提示していないので、このような技術開発が必要である。

本発明は前記のような問題を解決するためのものであり、パウチ型電池セルのシーリング部の密封力が向上した構造を簡単な方法で適用することができるようにエンボスパターンが形成されたシーリング部を含む電池セルを提供することを目的とする。
このような目的を達成するための本発明による電池セルは、電極組立体を内部に収納するパウチ型電池ケースを含み、前記パウチ型電池ケースは、電極組立体収納部を取り囲む外周辺にシーリング部が形成され、シーリング部の全体にエンボスパターンが形成されている構造を有することができる。
前記エンボスパターンは、シーリング部の上側から見るとき彫り上げの部分は下側から見るとき彫り込みの形態を有し、上側から見るとき彫り込みの部分は下側から見るとき浮き彫りの形態を有することができる。
前記エンボスパターンは、シーリング部の上側から見るとき、彫り上げ及び彫り込みが交互に繰り返されるように形成されることができる。
前記エンボスパターンは、一定の大きさ及び間隔で形成されることができる。
前記シーリング部のうち電極リードが突出する側のシーリング部に形成されるエンボスパターンの間隔は、電極リードが突出しない側のシーリング部に形成されるエンボスパターンの間隔より狭く形成されることができる。
前記エンボスパターンの垂直断面は、多角形、半円形または半楕円形であり得る。
本発明は前記電池セルを製造するためのシーリングブロックを提供する。詳細には、パウチ型電池セルシーリング部の上部に配置される上部シーリングブロックと、パウチ型電池セルシーリング部の下部に配置される下部シーリングブロックとを含み、前記上部シーリングブロック及び下部シーリングブロックは互いに対応する位置で互いに噛み合うように溝部及び突出部が形成されている構造を有することができる。
前記突出部は、前記パウチ型電池セルシーリング部に向かって突出した形態を有することができる。
前記突出部は、前記パウチ型電池セルシーリング部に向かって上方に突出した形態及び下方に突出した形態が交互に繰り返し配列されることができる。
本発明は、前記電池セルを単位電池として含む電池モジュールを提供する。
また、本発明は、前記課題の解決手段を多様に組み合わせた形態としても提供することが可能である。
以上で説明したように、本発明による電池セルは、シーリング部全体にエンボスパターンが形成されているので、シーリング部の全表面積が増加するようになる。したがって、上部ケースと下部ケースとの間の接着面積が増加するので、電池セルの密封力を向上させることができる。
したがって、パウチ型電池セルの形態変形が発生する場合にもシーリング部が容易に開放することを防止することができ、電池セルの内圧増加の際にも電池セルが爆発することを防止することができる。
また、従来の電池セルの製造過程でシーリング部にエンボスパターンを形成することができるので、生産設備の増設などが不必要である。

本発明を図面に基づいて詳細な実施例と一緒に説明する。
図１は第１実施例による電池セルの斜視図である。
電池セル１００はラミネートシートからなるパウチ型電池ケース１１０を含むパウチ型電池セルである。パウチ型電池ケース１１０は、電極組立体を収容するための電極組立体収納部１１４が形成された上部ケース１１１と、上部ケース１１１の下部に位置する下部ケース１１２とを含む。
前記電池ケースは、外部樹脂層、空気及び水分遮断性の金属層、及び熱融着性の内部樹脂層が積層されたラミネートシートからなることができる。
前記外部樹脂層は外部環境に対して優れた耐性を有しなければならないので、所定の値以上の引張強度及び耐候性が必要である。例えば、前記外部樹脂層は、ポリエチレンナフタレート（ＰＥＮ）、ポリエチレンテレフタレート（ＰＥＴ）または延伸ナイロンを含むことができる。
前記金属層は、ガス、湿気などの異物の流入または電解液の漏出を防止する機能の他にも電池ケースの強度を向上させる機能を発揮することができるように、アルミニウム（Ａｌ）またはアルミニウム合金を使うことができる。
前記内部樹脂層は、熱融着性を有し、電解液に対する吸湿性が低く、電解液によって膨張するか浸食されない高分子樹脂を使うことができる。例えば、前記内部樹脂層は、無延伸ポリプロピレンフィルム（ＣＰＰ）からなることができる。
上部ケース１１１と下部ケース１１２とは電極組立体収納部を取り囲む外周辺で互いに接触するので、前記外周辺を加熱及び押圧すると、前記上部ケースの内部樹脂層と前記下部ケースの内部樹脂層とが溶融しながら結合してシーリング部１１５を形成する。
電池セル１００は上部ケース１１１と下部ケース１１２とが連結された形態を有し、折曲部を除いた３辺の外周辺にシーリング部１１５が形成される。
すなわち、前記３辺の外周辺に形成されるシーリング部は、電池セルの両端にある全幅方向Ｗのシーリング部及び電池セルの全長方向Ｈのシーリング部であり、すべてのシーリング部にエンボスパターン１１６が形成される。
すべてのシーリング部の密封力を同等にするために、エンボスパターン１１６はすべてのシーリング部で一定の大きさ及び間隔で形成されることができる。
もしくは、全長方向Ｈのシーリング部の全長方向の中心部で内圧が最も大きく増加することになるので、全長方向の中心部はエンボスパターンの間隔がより狭く形成されることができる。
もしくは、電極リード１２０は全幅方向Ｗのシーリング部から電池ケースの外側に延び、電極リード１２０が突出した部分では密封力が相対的に減少することになる。したがって、電極リード１２０が突出した部分で密封力が減少することを防止するために、前記シーリング部のうち電極リード１２０が突出する側のシーリング部に形成されるエンボスパターンの間隔は、電極リード１２０が突出しない側のシーリング部に形成されるエンボスパターンの間隔より狭く形成されることができる。このような構成は、電極リードが一側方向のシーリング部から突出する単方向電池セルの場合にも同様に適用可能である。
電池セル１００に形成されたエンボスパターンは全体的に円筒状の形態を有し、平面上で円形の形態を有する。しかし、エンボスパターンの形態は上部ケースと下部ケースとの接着面が増加する形態であれば特に限定されない。例えば、前記エンボスパターンの垂直断面は、多角形、半円形または半楕円形であり得る。
本発明で、エンボスパターンはシーリング部において電池ケースの接着領域を増加させるための目的で形成されるので、前記エンボスパターンは、シーリング部の上側から見るとき浮き彫りの部分は下側から見るとき彫り込みの形態になり、上側から見るとき彫り込みの部分は下側から見るとき浮き彫りの形態に形成されることができる。
図２は第２実施例による電池セルの斜視図である。
図２を参照すると、電池セル２００において、パウチ型電池ケース２１０を構成する上部ケース２１１及び下部ケース２１２は、説明の便宜のために、互いに離隔している形態として示されているが、上部ケース２１１と下部ケース２１２とは熱融着して密着した形態を有する。
電池セル２００は電極リード２２０が互いに反対方向に突出した両方向電極組立体を収容した形態を有し、上部ケース２１１及び下部ケース２１２のそれぞれに電極組立体収納部２１４が形成された構造を有するので、高容量の電池セルを製造するのにより適した形態であり得る。
電池セル２００は、電池セル１００と比較すると、エンボスパターンの形態に違いがある。具体的には、エンボスパターン２１６は全体的に四角柱の形態を有し、平面上で四角形の形態を有する。また、エンボスパターン２１６がシーリング部の末端まで形成される。したがって、シーリング部２１５において上部ケース２１１と下部ケース２１２との接着面をより広く形成することができるので、密封力をより向上させることができる。
一方、電池セル２００は、全幅方向Ｗのシーリング部に形成されたエンボスパターン及び全長方向Ｈのシーリング部に形成されたエンボスパターンの大きさ及び間隔に違いがある形態を有するので、所望の大きさの密封力を確保することができるように、エンボスパターンの大きさ及び間隔を自由に設定することができる。
その他に、電池セル２００についての説明は電池セル１００についての説明を同様に適用することができるので、それらについての詳細な説明を省略する。
図３は電池セルシーリング部の垂直断面図である。
図３を参照すると、３種の形態のエンボスパターンが示され、理解の便宜のために、上部ケース２１１と下部ケース２１２とが離隔している形態として示されているが、これらは互いに離隔間隔なしに密着した状態でシーリング部を形成するようになる。
図３の（ａ）のエンボスパターンは垂直断面上で多角形の形態が一定の大きさ及び間隔で形成され、シーリング部の上側から見るとき浮き彫りの部分は下側から見るとき彫り込みの形態になり、シーリング部の上側から見るとき彫り込みの部分は下側から見るとき浮き彫りの形態になる。
図３の（ｂ）のエンボスパターンは垂直断面上で多角形の形態が一定の大きさ及び間隔で形成されるが、シーリング部の上側から見るとき彫り上げと彫り込みとが交互に繰り返され、前記彫り上げ及び彫り込みに対応する位置のシーリング部の下側から見るときそれぞれ彫り込み及び彫り上げが交互に繰り返される形態を有する。
図３の（ｃ）のエンボスパターンは垂直断面上で半円形の形態が一定の大きさ及び間隔で形成され、シーリング部の上側から見るとき彫り上げの形態を有し、下側から見るとき彫り込みの形態を有する。
本発明によるエンボスパターンは図３に示した形態に限定されず、多様な形態及び間隔で形成されることができる。
図４は第３実施例によるシーリングブロックの垂直断面図である。
図４を参照すると、第３実施例によるシーリングブロックは、図３の（ａ）のエンボスパターンを形成するのに適切な形態を有する。第３実施例によるシーリングブロックは、パウチ型電池セルシーリング部の上部に配置される上部シーリングブロック３１０、及びパウチ型電池セルシーリング部の下部に配置される下部シーリングブロック３２０を含む。
上部シーリングブロック３１０及び下部シーリングブロック３２０は互いに対応する位置で互いに噛み合う構造を有するように形成されている。すなわち、シーリング面３０１を基準に凹んでいる形態の溝部３４０、及びシーリング面３０１を基準に突出した形態の突出部３３０が形成されている。
したがって、上部シーリングブロック３１０と下部シーリングブロック３２０との間にパウチ型電池セルのシーリング部を配置し、押圧及び加熱すると、図３の（ａ）のような形態のエンボスパターンが形成される。ここで、突出部３３０はパウチ型電池セルのシーリング部に向かって突出した形態を有することができる。
図５は第４実施例によるシーリングブロックの垂直断面図である。
図５を参照すると、第４実施例によるシーリングブロックは図３の（ｂ）のエンボスパターンを形成するのに適切な形態を有する。第４実施例によるシーリングブロックは、パウチ型電池セルシーリング部の上部に配置される上部シーリングブロック４１０、及びパウチ型電池セルシーリング部の下部に配置する下部シーリングブロック４２０を含む。
上部シーリングブロック４１０及び下部シーリングブロック４２０は互いに対応する位置で互いに噛み合う構造が形成されている。すなわち、シーリング面４０１を基準に凹んでいる形態の溝部４４０、及びシーリング面４０１を基準に突出した形態の突出部４３０が形成されている。
突出部４３０はパウチ型電池セルのシーリング部に向かって上方に突出した形態及び下方に突出した形態が交互に繰り返し配列され、突出部４３０と噛み合うように、対面するシーリングブロックには溝部４４０が形成される。
本発明による電池セルは、シーリング部の密封力が向上しているので、前記電池セルを単位電池として含む電池モジュールでは、電池セルがより高い内圧でもベンティングされ得ない。したがって、電池モジュールの安全性を向上させることができる。
以下では、本発明の実施例を参照して説明するが、これは本発明のより容易な理解のためのものであり、本発明の範疇がそれによって限定されるものではない。
＜実験例１＞
パウチ型電池セルを準備し、外周辺シーリング部全体にエンボスパターンが形成されるようにして密封した。
＜実験例２＞
パウチ型電池セルを準備し、外周辺シーリング部が平らな形態になるようにして密封した。
＜最大変形量及び最大応力測定１＞
前記実験例１及び実験例２で製造された電池セルに対して０．０１ＭＰａの内圧を印加して最大変形量及び最大応力を測定した。実験例１の最大変形量の構造シミュレーション結果を図６に示し、実験例２の最大変形量の構造シミュレーション結果を図７に示した。また、実験例１の最大応力の構造シミュレーション結果を図８に示し、実験例２の最大応力の構造シミュレーション結果を図９に示した。
構造シミュレーション（Ｓｔｒｕｃｔｕｒｅ Ｓｉｍｕｌａｔｉｏｎ）はＭｉｄａｓ社のＭｅｓｈｆｒｅｅというＣＡＥ Ｔｏｏｌを用いて遂行した。ＣＡＤプログラムとしてＳｏｌｉｄｗｏｒｋｓプログラムを用いて３次元形状を具現した後、それぞれの形状に対してＭｅｓｈｆｒｅｅを用いて構造シミュレーションを遂行した。
図６及び図７を参照すると、実験例１の最大変形量は約０．０３ｍｍであり、実験例２の最大変形量は約０．０４ｍｍである。
図８及び図９を参照すると、実験例１の最大応力は約８．８Ｎ／ｍｍ２であり、実験例２の最大応力は約１１．３Ｎ／ｍｍ２である。
このように、シーリング部全体にエンボスパターンが形成された実験例１は、平らなシーリング部を形成した実験例２よりも最大変形量が減少した結果を示しているので、シーリング部全体にエンボスパターンが形成されたパウチ型電池セルは内圧増加による変形量が少ないより堅い構造であることが分かる。
また、同じ大きさの耐圧が印加されたとき、実験例１は実験例２より最大応力が小さく測定された。したがって、シーリング部全体にエンボスパターンが形成されたパウチ型電池セル構造がより大きな内圧増加に耐えることができることを確認することができる。
このような結果から、パウチ型電池セルのシーリング部全体にエンボスパターンを形成する場合には密封力が向上することが分かる。
＜最大変形量及び最大応力測定２＞
前記実験例１及び実験例２で製造された電池セルに対して０．１ＭＰａの内圧を印加して最大変形量及び最大応力を測定し、実験例１の最大変形量の構造シミュレーション結果を図１０に示し、実験例２の最大変形量の構造シミュレーション結果を図１１に示した。また、実験例１の最大応力の構造シミュレーション結果を図１２に示し、実験例２の最大応力の構造シミュレーション結果を図１３に示した。
構造シミュレーション方法は、前記最大変形量及び最大応力測定１で用いたものと同じ方法で遂行した。
図１０～図１３を参照すると、実験例１の最大変形量は約０．２５ｍｍであり、実験例２の最大変形量は約０．３７ｍｍである。実験例１の最大応力は約８４Ｎ／ｍｍ２であり、実験例２の最大応力は約１１１Ｎ／ｍｍ２である。
このように、シーリング部全体にエンボスパターンが形成された実験例１は、平らなシーリング部を形成した実験例２より最大変形量が減少し、最大応力が減少した結果を示している。
したがって、パウチ型電池セルのシーリング部全体にエンボスパターンを形成する場合には、構造的により堅い形態になるだけでなく、より大きな内圧増加の際にも密封力を維持することができる。
本発明が属する分野で通常の知識を有する者であれば前記内容に基づいて本発明の範疇内で多様な応用及び変形をなすことが可能であろう。

Claims (9)

  1. 電極組立体を内部に収納するパウチ型電池ケースを含み、
    前記パウチ型電池ケースは、電極組立体収納部を取り囲む外周辺にシーリング部が形成され、
    シーリング部の全体のうち、電極リードを除いた残りの部分にエンボスパターンが形成されており、
    電極リードが突出しない側のシーリング部と比較し電極リードが突出する側のシーリング部で密封力が減少することを防止するために、前記シーリング部のうち電極リードが突出する側のシーリング部に形成されるエンボスパターンの間隔は、電極リードが突出しない側のシーリング部に形成されるエンボスパターンの間隔より狭く形成されている、電池セル。
  2. 前記エンボスパターンは、シーリング部の上側から見るとき彫り上げの部分は下側から見るとき彫り込みの形態を有し、上側から見るとき彫り込みの部分は下側から見るとき浮き彫りの形態を有する、請求項１に記載の電池セル。
  3. 前記エンボスパターンは、シーリング部の上側から見ると、彫り上げ及び彫り込みが交互に繰り返されるように形成されている、請求項２に記載の電池セル。
  4. 前記エンボスパターンは、一定の大きさ及び間隔で形成されている、請求項１に記載の電池セル。
  5. 前記エンボスパターンの垂直断面は、多角形、半円形または半楕円形である、請求項１に記載の電池セル。
  6. 請求項１から５のいずれか一項に記載の電池セルを製造するためのシーリングブロックであって、
    パウチ型電池セルシーリング部の上部に配置される上部シーリングブロックと、パウチ型電池セルシーリング部の下部に配置される下部シーリングブロックとを含み、
    前記上部シーリングブロック及び下部シーリングブロックは互いに対応する位置のうち電極リードと対向する部分を除いた残りの部分で互いに噛み合うように溝部及び突出部が形成されている、シーリングブロック。
  7. 前記突出部は、前記パウチ型電池セルシーリング部に向かって突出した形態を有する、請求項６に記載のシーリングブロック。
  8. 前記突出部は、前記パウチ型電池セルシーリング部に向かって上方に突出した形態及び下方に突出した形態が交互に繰り返し配列されている、請求項６に記載のシーリングブロック。
  9. 請求項１から５のいずれか一項に記載の電池セルを単位電池として含む、電池モジュール。
