For example, in supermarkets and convenience stores, POS devices have been proposed that allow both store clerks and customers to pay for products (see, for example, Patent Document 1). However, there is a risk that the operating mode may be changed unintentionally due to an incorrect operation by the store clerk operating the POS system.

The objective of the present invention is to provide a product sales data processing device and program that prevents unintended switching of operating modes.

In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, a product sales data processing device according to one aspect of the present invention is a product sales data processing device used for selling products, and is characterized by comprising: a clerk registration means for clerks to register products; a customer registration means for clerks to register products; a settlement means for carrying out settlement processing based on the registration contents of at least one of the clerk registration means and the customer registration means; a switching means for switching the usage state of the clerk registration means; and a prohibition means for prohibiting switching by the switching means when the registration processing in the clerk registration means and the customer registration means, or the settlement start processing in the settlement means, is executed.

The above makes it possible to prevent unintentional switching of operating modes.

The above-mentioned product sales data processing device may also include a notification means for notifying that the prohibition means has prohibited switching by the switching means.

Figure 1 is a network configuration diagram of a POS (Point Of Sales) system according to one embodiment of the present invention. The POS system 1 shown in Figure 1 comprises three POS terminals, a first POS terminal 20-1, a second POS terminal 20-2, and a third POS terminal 20-3, and a store controller (store computer, management device) 10, each of which is connected to enable communication via a LAN 11. Hereinafter, when there is no particular distinction between the first POS terminal 20-1, the second POS terminal 20-2, and the third POS terminal 20-3, they will be collectively referred to as the POS terminal 20.

The POS system 1 can be installed in a variety of stores, but the following explanation uses an example in which the POS system 1 is installed in a convenience store.

Figure 2 shows an example of a POS terminal installation. Figure 2(A) is an oblique view of the POS terminal 20, etc., as seen from the customer's side. Figure 2(B) is an oblique view of the POS terminal 20, etc., as seen from the store clerk's side. As shown in Figure 2(A), a counter is placed to the right of the POS terminal 20 as seen from the customer's side.

Below, an example of the configuration of the POS terminal 20 shown in FIG. 4 will be described with reference to FIG. 3. The POS terminal 20 comprises a CPU 201, a ROM 202, a RAM 203, a hard disk 204, a customer display unit 205, a customer scanner unit 206, a card payment unit 208, a change dispenser 209, a store clerk display unit 210, a key operation unit 211, a store clerk scanner unit 212, a printing unit 213, an audio output unit 214, and a communication unit 215. These can communicate with each other via a bus.

The CPU 201 is a central processing unit that controls the operation of the POS terminal 20 by reading and executing programs stored in the ROM 202 .
The ROM 202 is a read-only memory, and stores various types of information used by the CPU 201, including programs.

RAM 203 is a read/write memory that stores various information. For example, RAM 203 stores information acquired from the outside (e.g., product master data acquired from store controller 10) and information generated during processing (e.g., registration information generated during registration processing, settlement information generated during settlement processing, etc.). In the following description, either or both of the registration information and settlement information may be referred to as transaction information.

The hard disk 204 stores various information. For example, the hard disk 204 may store programs executed by the CPU 201 instead of the ROM 202. Also, instead of the RAM 203, the hard disk 204 may store information acquired from the outside and information generated during processing.

The customer-side display unit 205 is a touch display for customers, which displays various information to customers and accepts various inputs from customers.
The customer-side scanner unit 206 is a scanner unit for use by customers, and optically reads, for example, bar codes (product codes, etc.) attached to products.

The customer-side scanner unit 206 is used when a customer registers an item, but the customer may register the item using other methods. For example, if an order button for the item is displayed on the customer-side display unit 205, the customer can operate (press) the order button to register the item.

The card payment unit 208 is a payment mechanism that uses various cards (credit cards, transportation cards, etc.). In this embodiment, the card payment unit 208 includes a card recognition unit (reading unit), a display unit, and an operation unit, but it is sufficient that the card payment unit 208 includes at least the card recognition unit.

The change dispenser 209 (cash settlement unit) is a cash settlement mechanism that has an input port for banknotes and coins and an output port for banknotes and coins, calculates the amount of money inserted into the input port, calculates the change amount, which is the difference between the input amount and the purchase amount, and dispenses the change from the output port.

The store clerk's display unit 210 is a touch display for the store clerk, which displays various information to the store clerk and receives various inputs from the store clerk.

The clerk-side scanner unit 212 is used when the clerk registers an item, but the clerk may register the item using other methods. For example, if a key corresponding to the item (such as a key corresponding to a sports newspaper) is located on the key operation unit 211, the clerk can operate (press) that key to register the item. Also, if a preset key corresponding to the item is displayed on the clerk-side display unit 210, the clerk can operate that preset key to register the item.

The printing unit 213 is a printing unit that ejects media, and prints and issues various media such as receipts. The printing unit 213 is a single printing unit that can be freely rotated to face from the store clerk side to the customer side, and vice versa (the direction of the media issuing port). The orientation of the printing unit may be changed manually, or may be changed automatically (mechanically controlled, etc.) in response to, for example, a transition in operating mode (details described below). The correctness of the orientation of the printing unit may be detected by a sensor or the like.

The audio output unit 214 outputs audio. For example, the audio output unit 214 outputs audio guidance and the like.
The communication unit 215 transmits and receives information to and from other devices (other POS terminals 20, store controller 10).

(Overview of each operation mode)
Next, the operation modes of the POS terminal 20 will be described. The POS terminal 20 has a plurality of operation modes. For example, the POS terminal 20 has a normal mode, a full self-service mode, and a semi-self-service mode. The operation modes described below are operation modes during normal business (operation modes related to product registration processing and accounting processing), and do not include a counting mode in which sales and inventory are counted and inquired, a maintenance mode in which a store clerk or maintenance staff performs setting work and maintenance work, and a training mode in which a new employee is trained. The semi-self-service mode is an operation mode that is mainly used when transmitting and receiving data between a plurality of POS terminals 20. Here, an example in which registration processing and settlement processing are performed by one POS terminal will be described, and the normal mode and the full self-service mode will be described in detail below.

The registration process is started when the purchased item is first registered and ends when the registration completion key is operated. The settlement process is started when the settlement start process is performed and ends when the change is dispensed. The settlement start process is the first process to start the settlement process, and is, for example, the selection of a payment method. The selection of a payment method is, for example, the insertion of coins into the change machine 209. By inserting coins into the change machine 209, payment by cash is selected. The selection of a payment method is, in addition to payment by cash selected by depositing money into the change machine 209, payment by cash, payment by various cards such as credit cards, etc. The customer can select a preferred payment method from these payment methods. These payment methods are selected individually, but multiple payment methods may be selected. For example, if the total amount of the purchased items is higher than the charge balance stored in the transportation card, the entire balance of the transportation card may be used for payment, and the remaining amount may be paid by cash or credit card. The settlement start process can be performed after the registration process has started, but it can also be performed before the registration process has started. Specifically, by depositing cash before the registration process has started, the settlement start process will start before the registration process has started. For this reason, the settlement process, including the settlement start process, may start after the registration process has started, or it may start before the registration process has started.

Fig. 5 is a diagram for explaining an outline of the normal mode. Fig. 6 is a diagram for explaining an overview of the full self-service mode. Fig. 6(A) is a schematic diagram showing the flow of processes (product registration process, accounting process) and the actions of a person (customer) in the full self-service mode. Fig. 6(B) is a flowchart showing the basic flow of the operation of the POS terminal 20 in the full self-service mode.

In the following description, as a separate approach from the classification of the three operating modes mentioned above (normal mode, full self-service mode, semi-self-service mode), the mode in which the POS terminal 20 executes the product registration process may be referred to as the registration mode, and the mode in which the POS terminal 20 executes the settlement process as the accounting mode.

(Normal mode)
The normal mode is an operation mode in which the clerk executes the registration process and the customer executes the payment process, as shown in Fig. 5(A). That is, in the normal mode, the clerk is in the registration mode and the customer is in the payment mode, as shown in Fig. 5(B). In other words, the POS terminal 20 operates in the registration and payment mode from the overall process from registration to payment.

In normal mode, the store clerk registers the items purchased by the customer on the store clerk side (store clerk scanner unit 212, store clerk display unit 210, key operation unit 211). In other words, the POS terminal 20 executes the registration process of the purchased items through the operation of the store clerk (operation of the store clerk scanner unit 212, store clerk display unit 210, key operation unit 211, etc.) (upper part of FIG. 5(A)).

When the store clerk has completed the registration process, the customer checks the total amount of the purchased items on the store clerk display unit 210 and settles the bill by inserting coins into the change machine 209 or operating the card payment unit 208 (lower part of FIG. 5(A)). In other words, the POS terminal 20 executes the settlement process based on the customer's operation (inserting coins into the change machine 209, operating the card payment unit 208) (lower part of FIG. 5(A)).

That is, in normal mode, as shown in FIG. 5(B), first, the clerk scans the product using, for example, the clerk scanner unit 212 (step S10: YES) and registers the product (step S11). After the subtotal key (for example, the subtotal key displayed on the clerk display unit 210 or the subtotal key located on the key operation unit 211) is pressed (step S30: YES), the customer uses, for example, the change dispenser 209 to settle the amount (step S50), and the process is completed. The subtotal key in step S30 is an operation key for completing the registration process, and may also be called the subtotal button, registration completion key, registration completion button, checkout key, checkout button, etc.

The customer may wait until the registration process is completed by the store clerk (until the total amount is finalized), but may also insert coins into the change dispenser 209 before the registration process is completed, or may select a payment method, for example, payment via the card payment unit 208. In other words, the POS terminal 20 allows deposits to be made as part of the settlement start process even before the registration process is completed, for example, before the registration process or during the pedaling process (top row of Figure 5 (A)).

After completing the registration of the purchased items, the store clerk may wait until the customer has completed payment (until the customer has received their change and receipt), but may also register the items purchased by the next customer. In other words, the POS terminal 20 can register the items purchased by the next customer during the payment process (lower part of FIG. 5(A)). In addition, the store clerk may be absent while the customer is paying (lower part of FIG. 5(A)). In other words, after the registration of the purchased items is complete, the store clerk may finish serving the customer while the customer is paying.

When there is change, the POS terminal 20 controls the dispenser 209 to dispense the change and change tag to prevent the customer from forgetting to take the change, and controls the printing unit 213 to issue a receipt after a sensor or other device detects that the customer has removed the change and change tag. The control of issuing a receipt after the customer has removed the change and change tag is also performed in other operation modes. As described above, in normal mode, there are cases where a store clerk is present in front of the customer who receives the change and cases where he is not. For example, when a store clerk is present, the above-mentioned control does not necessarily have to be performed (i.e., the dispense of the change and change tag and the issuance of a receipt may be performed simultaneously, or the receipt may be issued first). In addition, the timing of the dispense of the change and change tag and the issuance of a receipt may be controlled depending on the current operation mode and the presence/absence of a store clerk (for example, the presence/absence of a store clerk is recognized by a sensor).

(Full selfie mode)
As shown in Fig. 6(A), the full self-service mode is an operating mode in which the customer performs the registration process and the settlement process. That is, as shown in Fig. 6(B), in the full self-service mode, the customer is in both the registration mode and the accounting mode. In other words, the POS terminal 20 operates in the registration and accounting mode from the overall process from registration to settlement.

In the full self-service mode, the customer registers the purchased items on the customer side (customer side scanner unit 206, customer side display unit 205). In other words, the POS terminal 20 executes the registration process of the purchased items through the customer's operation (scanning with the customer side scanner unit 206, touching the customer side display unit 205) (upper part of FIG. 6(A)).

When the registration process is complete, the customer checks the total price of the purchased items on the customer display unit 205 and settles the bill by inserting coins into the change machine 209 or operating the card payment unit 208 (lower part of FIG. 6(A)). In other words, the POS terminal 20 executes the settlement process based on the customer's operation (inserting coins into the change machine 209, operating the card payment unit 208) (lower part of FIG. 6(A)).

That is, in the full self-service mode, as shown in FIG. 6B, the customer side scans the product using the customer side scanner unit 206 (step S20: YES) and registers the product (step S21). After pressing a registration completion key (for example, the END (receipt) button BT40 displayed on the customer side display unit 205 shown in FIG. 11B) (step S40: YES), the customer side settles the bill using the change dispenser 209 (step S50), completing the process. The registration completion key in step S40 is an operation key for completing the registration process, and may also be called the registration completion button, subtotal key, subtotal button, bill key, bill button, etc.

In the full self-service mode, as described above, both the customer side performs the registration process and the settlement process, but this does not mean that the store clerk side cannot do anything. In other words, even when the POS terminal 20 is operating in the full self-service mode, it is possible to press the first mode switching button BT12 displayed on the store clerk side display unit 210 shown in FIG. 13(B) and other figures. In the full self-service mode, before registration begins, as shown in FIG. 13(B), the second mode switching button BT13 displays the words "Switch to face-to-face self-service". In the full self-service mode, when a customer is registering a purchased item, as shown in FIG. 14(B), the second mode switching button BT13 displays the words "Join registration", and when the second mode switching button BT13 is pressed, the store clerk side scanner unit 212 can register the purchased item. The state (operation mode) in which registration processes are performed on both the store clerk side and the customer side is sometimes called the double scan mode.

In addition, in the full self-service mode, the settlement start process, such as depositing money into the change dispenser 209, cannot be performed before the product registration process is started, but the settlement start process may be performed before the product registration process is started. In this case, in the full self-service mode, all processes of the settlement start process, such as depositing money and selecting a payment method using various cards, may be performed, or only part of the settlement start process, such as depositing money or selecting a payment method, may be performed. In the full self-service mode, if the settlement start process allows the selection of a payment method using various cards, so that the settlement start process can be performed before the registration process, buttons corresponding to the various cards to be used for payment may be displayed on the registration start screen shown in FIG. 13(A), or a button for specifying a screen for selecting a payment method may be displayed.

(Operation mode notification)
The POS terminal 20 notifies the current operation mode. For example, the current operation mode may be displayed on the clerk display unit 210. Specifically, a screen having an operation mode display field may be displayed on the clerk display unit 210, and the current operation mode may be displayed in the operation mode display field on the screen. Also, a screen on which images (e.g., button-like images) corresponding to each operation mode are arranged may be displayed on the clerk display unit 210, and the image corresponding to the current operation mode on the screen may be displayed in a different display mode (e.g., a display mode that is more noticeable than the display modes of other images) from images that do not correspond to the current operation mode. The operation mode may also be displayed on the customer display unit 205 in a similar manner.

The POS terminal 20 may also notify information according to the current operating mode. For example, a message according to the current operating mode may be displayed on the customer display unit 205. Specifically, if the current operating mode is the full self-service mode, for example while in standby mode, a message may be displayed (e.g., a scrolling display in large letters) on the customer display unit 205 to the effect that the customer himself/herself should register the product (a message such as "We are asking the customer to scan").

(Operation mode transition)
Next, a description will be given of the transition (switching) of the operation mode of the POS terminal 20. The operation mode of the POS terminal 20 is switched in response to an explicit mode transition operation (mode switching operation) by a store clerk. Specifically, the key operation unit 211 has a number of buttons, and the operation mode is switched in response to the operation of the mode switching button 211a (see FIG. 3B), which is located at the top and the rightmost of these buttons.

In addition, since the mode switching button 211a is located at a corner of the key operation unit 211, it is possible to reduce operational errors when switching modes and to easily switch between operating modes. In other words, when the mode switching button 211a is located at a corner of the key operation unit 211, compared to when the mode switching button 211a is located near the center of the key operation unit 211, for example, there are fewer other buttons adjacent to the mode switching button 211a that is the target of operation. This makes it less likely that an operational error will occur, such as hastily operating another button, and also makes it possible to instantly identify the position of the mode switching button 211a that is the target of operation, allowing for stress-free mode switching operations.

Furthermore, since the mode switching button 211a is located in the corner at the top right end (topmost and rightmost) of the key operation unit 211, it is easy for the store clerk to perform the mode switching operation not only when he/she is on the store clerk side but also when he/she is on the customer side. In other words, a store clerk on the customer side cannot usually see each button of the key operation unit 211, but the mode switching button 211a located at the top right end of the key operation unit 211 can be easily recognized as the mode switching button 211a to be operated by reaching out from the customer side and feeling around (by touch), so the store clerk on the customer side can perform the mode switching operation without moving to the store clerk side. Also, since the mode switching button 211a is located at the topmost and rightmost end (outermost) of the key operation unit 211, it is located in a close position when the store clerk operates it from the customer side, making it easy for the store clerk to operate it.

In this embodiment, the mode switching button 211a is located in the upper right corner of the key operation unit 211, but the mode switching button 211a may be located in a position other than the upper right corner of the key operation unit 211, such as the lower right corner, as long as the position is recognizable by touch alone (a position that is relatively easy to recognize). Also, instead of or in addition to locating the mode switching button 211a in a position recognizable by touch alone (such as the upper right corner), the mode switching button 211a may be formed so that it can be distinguished from other buttons even from the customer's side. For example, the size of the mode switching button 211a may be different from the size of the other buttons, the shape of the mode switching button 211a may be different from the shape of the other buttons, or the height of the mode switching button 211a may be different from the height of the other buttons (for example, the mode switching button 211a may be made to protrude further than the other buttons), or the feel of all or part of the surface of the mode switching button 211a (the surface that the hand touches) may be different from the feel of the other buttons (for example, only the surface of the mode switching button 211a may be made to feel rough or bumpy, or only the surface of the mode switching button 211a may be provided with protrusions or depressions).

In this embodiment, taking into consideration the various advantages described above, the mode switching button 211a is provided on the key operation unit 211. However, instead of or in addition to providing the mode switching button 211a on the key operation unit 211, a mode switching button (not shown) may be provided on the screen displayed on the store clerk display unit 210.

Next, the transition (switching) of the operation mode of the POS terminal 20 will be described. The POS terminal 20 transitions between operation modes in accordance with an explicit mode transition operation by a store clerk (for example, pressing the first mode switching button BT12 or the second mode switching button BT13 displayed on the store clerk display unit 210 as shown in FIG. 9(A), inputting on the operation mode setting screen, operating the operation mode setting button, etc.). Note that the button (key) used for mode switching may be a mode switching key (hard key) set on the key operation unit 211 instead of the first mode switching button BT12 shown in FIG. 9(A) or the second mode switching button BT13 shown in FIG. 13(B), or may be used in combination with these. As shown in FIG. 9(A), the first mode switching button BT12 displayed in the normal mode displays the words "Switch to full self mode". Below, an example of transition when the operation mode is transitioned by pressing the first mode switching button BT12 will be described.

FIG. 8 is a flowchart showing the flow of transition from the full self-service mode to the normal mode. The transition from the normal mode to the full self-service mode and from the full self-service mode to the normal mode are performed, for example, by the operation of the first mode switching button BT12 or the second mode switching button BT13 by a store clerk or the like when no product registration has been performed. In addition, when a condition such as the start of registration processing is met, the transition of the operation mode by the operation of the first mode switching button BT12 or the second mode switching button BT13 may be prohibited. Furthermore, in the full self-service mode, when the customer side registration processing or other processing is not performed for a certain period of time, registration by the customer side scanner unit 206 or the like may be prohibited (for example, the prohibition on changing the usage status of the customer side scanner unit 206 during reception is lifted). These cases will also be described below.

(Transition from normal mode to full self mode)
The flowchart of FIG. 7 starts constantly (at very short intervals) in the POS terminal 20 (normal mode). Because it is in the normal mode, the clerk scanner unit 212 is accepting, and the customer scanner unit 206 is not accepting. When the clerk scanner unit 212 is accepting, it is possible to register a product by pressing the clerk display unit 210. Similarly, when the clerk scanner unit 212 is not accepting, it is impossible to register a product by pressing the clerk display unit 210. Similarly, when the customer scanner unit 206 is accepting, it is possible to register a product by pressing the customer display unit 205, and when the customer scanner unit 206 is not accepting, it is impossible to register a product by pressing the customer display unit 205. Acceptance by the customer scanner unit 206 and the clerk scanner unit 212 refers to reading of purchased products, etc., and reading is possible during acceptance, and reading is impossible during non-acceptance. The reception by customer-side scanner unit 206 and clerk-side scanner unit 212 means the usage state of customer-side scanner unit 206 and clerk-side scanner unit 212, which means that they are available when they are receiving, and unavailable when they are not receiving. In this way, in full self-service mode, switching to normal mode is permitted until the purchased items are registered or a payment is made, and the usage status of the customer scanner unit 206 and the store clerk scanner unit 212 can be switched. Also, after the purchased items are registered or a payment is made, switching to full self-service mode is prohibited until the settlement is completed, but instead the double scan mode is switched to. When the full self-service mode is started, the customer registers the product, and therefore the customer-side scanner unit 206 is prohibited from being switched in use. In the full self-service mode, if the deposit process is possible before the registration process starts as in the normal mode, instead of determining in step S152 that the full self-service mode should be switched to the normal mode when the second mode switching button BT13 is pressed not after the start of registration and before settlement, the full self-service mode may be switched to the normal mode when the second mode switching button BT13 is pressed not after the start of registration or after deposit and before settlement. 10(A) is a display example of a registration screen displayed on the store clerk display unit 210 of the POS terminal 20, and is a display example during product registration. Specifically, FIG. 10(A) is a screen showing the display contents of the registration screen when the first product (canned beer) and the second product (asparagus) are registered. When the screen shown in FIG. 11(A) is displayed, switching of the operating mode (switching from normal mode to full self mode) is prohibited, so the first mode switching button BT12 shown in FIG. 9(A) is not displayed. In contrast, a grayed-out first mode switching button BT12 may be displayed.

Figure 11 (B) is an example of the settlement screen displayed on the customer display unit 205 of the POS terminal 20. Specifically, the screen shown in Figure 11 (B) displays the message "If you are happy, press the Finish button," along with the payment amount (here, "383 yen"), the deposit amount (here, "1,000 yen"), and the change (here, "617 yen"). The Finish (Receipt) button BT40 is displayed at the bottom right of the screen, and to the left of that is the Call Store Staff button BT33. The display language switching buttons BT35 to BT37 are displayed at the bottom left of the screen. The "Vegetables" button BT38 is a button for displaying each preset key for vegetables. The POS terminal 20 is forced to terminate based on the operation of pressing the forced termination button BT14 displayed on the store clerk display unit 210.
