Description

The present invention relates to a railway vehicle body structure having end skins and side skins, and to a railway vehicle.

Traditionally, railway car bodies comprising end skins and side skins are known. For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a railway car body structure in which both ends of the end skin in the car body width direction are bent to fit along the inner surface of the side skin to form reinforcing sections for joining the side skins, thereby facilitating joining of the end skins and preventing rainwater from penetrating into the end skins.

Patent No. 4616766

Some railway car bodies have tapered bottoms, in which the lower portions of the side skin panels are bent inward to widen the interior of the car, making the width of the lower car body smaller than the width of the upper car body. When applying the end body structure described in Patent Document 1 to a tapered bottom railway car body, when bending the reinforcement sections for joining the side skin panels along the inner surfaces of the side skin panels of the side structures adjacent to the end panels on both sides in the longitudinal direction, it was not possible to bend the end skin panels' widthwise ends toward the inside of the car body so as to follow the bent sections of the side skin panels.

One possible solution to this problem is to cut out the bent portion of the reinforcement on the end panel that bends toward the inside of the vehicle, and then replace it by welding a different panel member that is formed to fit the bent portion of the side panel.

However, with this method, the separate exterior panel member must be welded to prevent it from falling off the end bodywork when the vehicle is in motion or washed. In this case, since the separate exterior panel member becomes the visible surface, or the outermost surface of the end bodywork on the vehicle's exterior, the weld bead must be smoothed or given a hairline finish. As a result, this method requires a lot of man-hours to manufacture the end bodywork.

The present invention was made to solve the above problems, and aims to provide technology that enables the manufacture of end structures with fewer man-hours for tapered railway vehicle body structures.

One aspect of the present invention is (1) a railway car body structure comprising end panels and side panels, the end panels being bent at their widthwise ends to fit along the inner surfaces of the adjacent side panels, and a reinforcing section joined to the side panels, wherein the lower portions of the side panels are bent toward the inside of the car, forming a tapered shape in which the lower car body width is smaller than the upper car body width, and corner posts are installed integrally inside the reinforcing sections along the vertical direction of the car body, with their lower portions bent toward the inside of the car corresponding to the bent portions of the side panels, and the end panels have a missing section where the reinforcing sections are missing in a region from the bent portions of the side panels corresponding to the lower ends.

In a railway vehicle body structure with the above configuration, corner posts installed integrally on the inside of the reinforcing portion of the end skin are exposed to the outside through missing portions in the end skin. The reinforcing portion is missing in the area from the bent portion of the side skin to the lower end, and the lower portions of the corner posts are bent toward the inside of the vehicle to correspond to the bent portion of the side skin. Therefore, the widthwise end of the end skin can be bent toward the inside of the vehicle to correspond to the bent portion of the side skin by simply installing the corner posts integrally on the inside of the reinforcing portion, without using techniques such as cutting out the portion of the reinforcing portion corresponding to the bent portion of the side skin and replacing it by welding a different skin member, and applying a smoothing or hairline finish to the weld bead portion. Therefore, with the above configuration, end body structures with tapered bottoms can be manufactured with minimal labor.

(2) In the railway vehicle body structure described in (1), it is preferable that the corner posts are formed by bending or extruding plate material.

A railway vehicle body structure with the above configuration makes it easy to form corner posts that follow the inner surface of the reinforcement, and to bend the lower parts of the corner posts toward the inside of the vehicle in response to bending of the side outer panels.

(3) In the railway vehicle body structure described in (1) or (2), it is preferable that the corner post has a step against which the edge of the missing portion abuts, and that the step is the same size as the plate thickness of the end outer panel or the reinforcing portion.

The railway vehicle body structure configured as described above allows the position of the reinforcement section to be easily aligned with the position of the corner post exposed from the missing section, allowing the corner post to form a natural visible surface.

(4) In the railway vehicle body structure described in any one of (1) to (3), it is preferable that the corner posts are divided into an upper post member and a lower post member at a position where they begin to bend toward the inside of the vehicle, and that the upper post member and the lower post member are welded together so that the lower post member bends relative to the upper post member in response to the bending of the side outer panel.

A railway vehicle body structure with the above configuration allows for easy production of corner posts that bend in response to the bending of the side outer panels. Furthermore, because the welding portion between the upper and lower column members is hidden by the end outer panels, the area required for smoothing the weld beads or applying a hairline finish to the corner post welds can be minimized, reducing the labor required to assemble the body structure.

(5) In the railway vehicle body structure described in any one of (1) to (4), it is preferable that the corner posts have the same surface treatment as the end outer panel on the portion exposed to the outside through the missing portion.

In a railway vehicle body structure with the above configuration, the boundary between the missing portion and the corner post is less noticeable.

(6) In the railway vehicle body structure described in any one of (1) to (5), it is preferable that a watertight treatment is applied along the edge of the missing portion.

A railway vehicle with the above configuration eliminates gaps between the missing portion and the corner posts, preventing rainwater, vehicle washing water, etc. from entering the interior of the vehicle.

Another aspect of the present invention is a railway vehicle characterized by having a railway vehicle body structure described in any one of (1) to (6).

Therefore, the present invention provides a technology that allows for the manufacture of end structures with fewer man-hours for railway vehicle structures with tapered bottoms.

Embodiments of a railway car body structure and a railway car according to the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. This specification discloses a railway car body structure and a railway car in which the widthwise ends of the end skins of the car body are joined to the side skins, the lower parts of the side skins are bent inward, and the lower car body width is tapered so that it is smaller than the upper car body width.

The side structure 4 and side skin panels 40 are configured straight in the vertical direction of the car body, with the lower waist panel 42 bent toward the inside of the car. The lower waist panel 42 is an example of a "lower part of the side skin panel." Hereinafter, the bent portion of the lower waist panel 42 of the side skin panel 40 bent toward the inside of the car will be referred to as the "side skin panel bent portion P41."

A pair of end bodies 2, 2 are arranged at both ends of the underframe 8 in the vehicle length direction. The end body 2 has a through hole 27 in the center and an end outer panel 21 on the outside of the vehicle. The end body 2 and end outer panel 21 are arranged straight in the vertical direction of the vehicle at both ends in the vehicle width direction, corresponding to the side body 4 and side outer panel 40, and the lower ends of the car body width direction ends are bent (inclined) toward the vehicle interior. The roof body 6 is arranged above the pair of end bodies 2, 2 and the pair of side body structures 4, 4. Hereinafter, the bent portions where the car body width direction ends of the end outer panel 21 (ends of plate members 211A, 211B described below) bend toward the vehicle interior are referred to as "end outer panel bent portions P1A, P1B."

For example, corner posts 25A, 25B are installed inside both ends of the end outer panel 21 in the car body width direction, and their lower portions are bent toward the car body interior to correspond to the side outer panel bend portion P41. The end of the end outer panel 21 in the car body width direction is cut out in an area corresponding to the side outer panel bend portion P41 to the lower end 43 of the side outer panel 40, creating missing portions 217A, 217B. The corner posts 25A, 25B are exposed to the outside through the missing portions 217A, 217B, forming the outermost surface of the end body structure 2 on the car exterior side. The abutment portion 2153 is provided perpendicular to the end outer plate 21 (plate material 211) so as to fit along the inner surface of the side outer plate 40. The energy absorbing portion 2152 is provided so as to be inclined at approximately the same angle relative to the end outer plate 21 and the abutment portion 2153, and absorbs collision energy during an offset collision in which one of two passing cars derails and collides with part of the other car, preventing deformation of the railway car body structure 9 toward the interior of the car.

As shown in Figures 5 and 6, the end panel 21 has a missing portion 217 where the reinforcing portion 215 is missing from the end panel bend portion P1 to the lower end P2. As shown in Figure 6, the corner post 25 is divided into an upper post member 251 and a lower post member 252 at a position corresponding to the upper edge of the missing portion 217, in other words, at the position where the lower portion begins to bend toward the interior of the vehicle.

As shown in Figures 7 to 9, the upper pillar member 251 and the lower pillar member 252 are formed by bending plate material so as to join to the inner surface of the end outer panel 21 and the inner surface of the reinforcing portion 215. The upper pillar member 251 and the lower pillar member 252 comprise first portions 2511, 2521, second portions 2512, 2522, third portions 2513, 2523, and fourth portions 2514, 2524. In a plan view, the corner pillar 25 has third portions 2513, 2523 arranged perpendicular to the first portions 2511, 2521. The second portions 2512, 2522 are arranged so as to incline at approximately the same angle relative to the first portions 2511, 2521 and the third portions 2513, 2523, respectively. The fourth portions 2514 and 2524 are bent at approximately a right angle to the third portions 2513 and 2523.

The upper pillar member 251 and the lower pillar member 252 have approximately the same plate thickness. In this embodiment, the average plate thickness of the upper pillar member 251 and the lower pillar member 252 is approximately twice the average plate thickness of the end outer plate 21 or the reinforcing portion 215. The plate thickness of the corner pillar 25 may be set appropriately depending on conditions such as strength. For example, the plate thickness of the upper pillar member 251 and the lower pillar member 252 may be different, such as making the plate thickness of the lower pillar member 252 thicker than the plate thickness of the upper pillar member 251.

As shown in Figure 11, the upper post member 251 and the lower post member 252 are butt-welded to form a single corner post 25. The upper post member 251 is straight from its upper end to its lower end. In contrast, the lower post member 252 is straight, but its upper end is bent to correspond to the side panel bend portion P41 of the side panel 40, forming a corner post bend portion P11. Therefore, by simply butt-welding the lower end surface of the upper post member 251 and the upper end surface of the lower post member 252, it is possible to easily manufacture a corner post 25 that bends to correspond to the side panel bend portion P41 of the side panel 40.

As shown in Figures 10 and 11, the lower pillar member 252 is joined to the upper pillar member 251 with the second portion 2522 and the third portion 2523 offset toward the outside of the vehicle in the car body width direction relative to the second portion 2512 and the third portion 2513 of the upper pillar member 251 by the thickness of the reinforcing portion 215. The first portions 2511, 2521 and the fourth portions 2514, 2524 have the same positions on their outer surfaces. As a result, the corner pillar 25 has a step 256 at the corner pillar bend portion P11, which is equal to the plate thickness of the reinforcing portion 215, formed by the upper end surface 2522a of the second portion 2522 and the upper end surface 2523a of the third portion 2523.

As shown in Figure 6, the step 256 of the corner post 25 abuts against the upper edge of the missing portion 217. Then, as shown in Figures 7 and 8, the first portion 2511 of the upper post member 251 and the first portion 2521 of the lower post member 252 abut against the inner surface of the end outer panel 21 on the vehicle exterior side, and the second portion 2512 and third portion 2513 of the upper post member 251 abut against the inner surface of the energy absorbing portion 2152 and the inner surface of the abutment portion 2153 of the reinforcing portion 215. In this state, the corner post 25 is joined to the end outer panel 21 and the reinforcing portion 215.

As shown in Figures 6 and 8, the corner post 25 has a step 256 that aligns the positions of the second portion 2522 and third portion 2523 exposed from the missing portion 217 with the positions of the energy absorption portion 2152 and abutment portion 2153 of the reinforcing portion 215. Therefore, the corner post 25 is exposed from the missing portion 217 with almost no step between it and the end outer panel 21 and the reinforcing portion 215, forming a natural visible surface. The fourth portions 2514 and 2524 do not abut against the end outer panel 21 or the reinforcing portion 215, but they improve the bending strength of the upper post member 251 and the lower post member 252.

Here, the butt-welded surfaces between the upper pillar member 251 and the lower pillar member 252 are hidden behind the end outer panel 21 and the reinforcing portion 215. As a result, the butt-welded surfaces do not require post-processing such as smoothing or hairline finishing, or the area requiring smoothing or hairline finishing can be minimized, thereby reducing the labor required to assemble the body structure.

The surface of the lower pillar member 252 located on the outside of the vehicle body is subjected to the same surface treatment as the end outer panel 21, making the boundary between the end outer panel 21 and the corner post 25 less noticeable. The surface treatment is applied to at least the portion exposed to the outside from the missing portion 217. The surface treatment is, for example, a hairline finish. The hairline should be formed in the same direction as the hairline formed on the end outer panel 21. Note that the surface treatment may be applied by a method other than the hairline finish, such as painting.

As shown in Figures 6 and 9, the end outer panel 21 has a watertight treatment 32 formed by fillet welding the edge of the missing portion 217 to the corner post 25, preventing rainwater, cleaning water, etc. from entering the interior of the vehicle through the gap between the missing portion 217 and the corner post 25. Fillet welding is an example of a "watertight treatment." Note that watertight treatment may also be performed using a method other than fillet welding, such as applying a sealant.

<Manufacturing Procedure of Railway Vehicle Body Structure 9>
The end body structure 2 is formed by forming the plate materials 211A, 211B, 212 of the end outer panel 21 into a predetermined shape by press working or the like. The plate materials 211A, 211B are formed with reinforcing portions 215A, 215B by bending. Furthermore, the plate materials 211A, 211B are provided with missing portions 217A, 217B by punching, cutting, or the like. The end outer panel 21 is assembled by connecting the plate materials 211A, 211B, 212 by welding.

The corner posts 25A, 25B are manufactured by forming the upper post member 251 and the lower post member 252 into the specified shape by pressing or extruding plate material. The surface of the lower post member 252 facing the exterior of the vehicle is surface treated. The upper post member 251 and the lower post member 252 are butt-welded. The corner posts 25A, 25B are welded to both ends of the end outer panel 21 in the vehicle width direction.

For example, the end panel 21 and corner post 25 are positioned in the width direction of the car body by abutting the first portion 2511, 2521, second portion 2512, and third portion 2513 of the corner post 25 against the inner surface of the end panel 21, the energy absorption portion 2152 of the reinforcing portion 215, and the abutment portion 2153, respectively. Furthermore, the end panel 21 and corner post 25 are positioned in the vertical direction of the car body by abutting the step 256 against the upper edge of the missing portion 217. In this state, the end panel 21 and corner post 25 are joined by welding. As a result, the second portion 2522 and third portion 2523 of the lower post member 252, which has been surface treated in the same way as the end outer panel 21, are exposed from the missing portion 217 of the end outer panel 21 so as to be flush with the energy absorbing portion 2152 and abutment portion 2153 of the reinforcing portion 215, forming a continuous visible surface from the reinforcing portion 215.

Then, the edge of the missing portion 217 is fillet welded to the corner post 25 exposed from the missing portion 217 to form the watertight treatment portion 32.

The upper frame 26 is welded to the upper end P3 of the end outer panel 21, to which the corner posts 25A, 25B are joined. The end body structure 2 is assembled by forming the shear plate 23 into the desired shape using press work or similar, and forming openings and mounting holes using an NC machine or similar. Furthermore, each reinforcing member and part is fabricated and welded to the shear plate 23. The shear plate 23, with the reinforcing members and parts welded to it, is then welded to the end outer panel 21. This completes the end body structure 2.

The side structure 4 is formed by assembling side outer panels 40, frame members, etc., and is fitted with doors 45 and windows 46. The railway vehicle body structure 9 has the end structure 2 joined to the end of the underframe 8 in the car length direction, and the side structure 4 joined to both ends of the underframe 8 in the car width direction.

The end of the end panel 21 in the vehicle width direction is bent toward the vehicle interior in correspondence with the side panel bend portion P41 of the side panel 40 by the abutment portion 2153 of the reinforcing portion 215 and the third portion 2523 of the corner post 25 exposed from the missing portion 217. This allows the side panel 40 to be joined in a way that prevents rainwater, vehicle washing liquid, etc. from entering the vehicle interior.

In addition, the outer surfaces of the first portion 2521 and second portion 2522 of the corner posts 25 exposed from the missing portion 217 of the end outer panel 21 are aligned with the outer surfaces of the end outer panel 21 and the energy absorbing portion 2152, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing joint 90. After the end body structure 2 and side body structure 4 are joined to the underframe 8, the roof body structure 6 is joined to the end body structure 2 and side body structure 2.

<まとめ>
<Summary>
As described above, in the railway car body structure 9 of this embodiment, the corner posts 25, which are integrally installed inside the reinforcing portion 215 of the end outer plate 21, are exposed to the outside through the missing portion 217 provided in the end outer plate 21. The reinforcing portion 215 is missing in the region from the side bent portion P41 to the lower end 43 of the side outer plate 40, and the lower portion of the corner post 25 is bent toward the inside of the car in correspondence with the side bent portion P41 of the side outer plate 40. Therefore, the car width direction end of the end outer plate 21 can be bent at its lower portion toward the inside of the car in correspondence with the side bent portion P41 of the side outer plate 40 and joined to the side outer plate 40 simply by integrally installing the corner posts inside the reinforcing portion 215, without using a technique of cutting out the portion of the reinforcing portion corresponding to the side bent portion P41 and replacing it with a different outer plate member by welding, and smoothing or hairline finishing the weld bead portion. Therefore, according to this embodiment, the end bodyshell 2 can be manufactured with fewer steps in the tapered railcar bodyshell 9. Also, the end outer plate 21 and the side outer plate 41 can be easily joined together.

The present invention is not limited to the above embodiment and can be applied in various ways. For example, as shown in Figures 12 and 13 for the reinforcing portion 215x and corner post 25x, the energy absorption portion 2152 may be omitted and the abutment portion 2153 may be directly connected to the end outer panel 21x, or the second portions 2512 and 2522 of the upper post member 251x and lower post member 252x may be omitted and the third portions 2513 and 2523 may be directly connected to the first portions 2511 and 2521.

For example, the corner posts 25 may be constructed from hollow pillars with a rectangular cross section. However, by constructing the corner posts 25 by bending plate material as in the above embodiment, it is easy to form the corner posts 25 so that they fit along the inner surface of the reinforcement section, or to bend the lower part of the corner posts 25 toward the interior of the vehicle in accordance with the side outer panel bending portion P41 where the side outer panel 40 bends toward the interior of the vehicle. Furthermore, the corner posts 25 can be made lighter while still maintaining their strength against offset collisions.

For example, as in the corner post 25y shown in Figure 14, the step 256 shown in Figure 11 may be omitted. In this case, the portion of the corner post 25y exposed to the outside through the missing portion 217 is lower than the reinforcing portion 215, but the step is small, equivalent to the thickness of the reinforcing portion 215, and therefore inconspicuous. Furthermore, providing a watertight treatment 32 between the missing portion 217 and the corner post 25y can prevent the intrusion of rainwater, vehicle wash water, and other water. However, as in the above embodiment, by providing a step 256 on the corner post 25 against which the upper edge of the missing portion 217 abuts, the step 256 is the same size as the thickness of the end outer panel 21 or the reinforcing portion 215, the position of the reinforcing portion 215 and the position of the corner post 25 exposed through the missing portion 217 are aligned, allowing the corner post 25 to form a natural visible surface. Furthermore, even if watertight treatment is not performed on the joint surfaces between the reinforcing portion 215 and the corner post 25 and the side outer panel 40, the intrusion of rainwater and other water into the interior of the vehicle can be prevented.

For example, as shown in FIG. 14 , a corner post 25y including a first portion 25ya, a second portion 25yb, a third portion 25yc, and a fourth portion (not shown) may be constructed from a single component. However, as in the above embodiment, the corner post 25 is divided into an upper post member 251 and a lower post member 252 at the position where it begins to bend toward the interior of the vehicle, and the upper post member 251 and the lower post member 252 are welded together so that the lower post member 252 bends relative to the upper post member 251 in response to the bending of the side skin 40. This allows for easy manufacture of a corner post 25 that bends in response to the side skin bending portion P41 of the side skin 40. Furthermore, the labor required for assembling the body structure can be reduced. When constructing the corner post 25 from a single component, a step 256 may be provided at the corner post bending portion P11.

For example, surface treatment may be omitted. However, by applying the same surface treatment as the end panel to the portion exposed to the outside from the missing portion 217, as in the case of the corner post 25 in the above embodiment, the boundary between the reinforcing portion 215 and the corner post 25 becomes less noticeable, improving the aesthetic appearance of the joint 90.

For example, watertight treatment may be omitted. However, by performing watertight treatment such as fillet welding along the missing portion 217, as with the corner post 25 in the above embodiment, the gap between the missing portion 217 and the corner post 25 can be eliminated, preventing rainwater, vehicle wash water, and the like from entering the interior of the vehicle. For example, if the watertight treatment is fillet welding, the watertight treatment 32 can be maintained semi-permanently, preventing the intrusion of rainwater, etc.

The manufacturing procedure for the railway vehicle body structure 9 described in the above embodiment is an example, and the manufacturing procedure may be changed to the extent that it does not contradict the essence of the present invention. The fourth portions 2514, 2524 of the corner posts 25 may also be omitted.
