This invention relates to a bed guard with handrails that is attached to the side of a bed used by people requiring care, those recuperating, the elderly, etc., to make it easier for them to get in and out of bed and to change positions on the bed, and also to prevent comforters from falling off.

As described in Patent Documents 1 and 2, bed side rails and bed guards are known for use on beds used by people requiring care, those recuperating, the elderly, etc., with the aim of assisting people getting in and out of bed and preventing the bed user or comforter from falling off.

The bed side rails described in Patent Document 1 have cross members equipped with grips that have a bent section that is bent at an angle of 45° to 150°, preferably 75° to 120°. When a bed user gets up from the bed, they can easily shift their center of gravity forward by grasping the front grips.

The bed guard described in Patent Document 2 has a bed guard section that stands up from the side of the bed and is made of a sheet with mesh material stretched inside the frame to form a wall, and the bed guard section prevents people and bedding on the bed from falling.

When a bed user wants to get off the bed, they first need to raise their upper body from the lying position. However, with the bed side rails described in Patent Document 1, the user must first move to the side of the bed where the grip is located, then grab the grip to raise their upper body and get off the bed. Alternatively, the user must first raise their upper body on their own, then turn their upper body toward the side of the bed where the grip is located and get off the bed. This can be difficult depending on the bed user's physical condition.

Furthermore, as shown in Figure 1 of Patent Document 2, the bed side rails described in Patent Document 2 have bed guard sections that are erected higher than the top surface of the bed mattress, which impedes the user's physical movement when getting in and out of bed.

The present invention was made in consideration of the above-mentioned problems, and aims to provide a bed guard with handrails that includes a handrail that can be grasped without moving to the side of the bed when the user raises their upper body from a lying position in bed, and a comforter fall prevention part that does not interfere with the user's physical movement when getting in and out of bed.

In order to solve the above problems, the bed guard with handrails according to the present invention comprises a bed guard section erected upward from one side of the bed, and an insertion section which bends and extends horizontally from the lower end of the bed guard section towards the other side of the bed, and is attached to the bed by inserting and sandwiching the insertion section between the upper surface of the bed and the underside of a bed mattress placed on the upper surface of the bed, and the bed guard section has a handrail section erected upward higher than the upper surface of the bed mattress, and the handrail section is attached to the side of the bed. The bed guard has a handrail at its upper end that is slanted from one side of the bed to the other side, and the handrail-equipped bed guard has an abutment portion that abuts against one side of the bed mattress so as to form a gap between the bed guard portion and one side of the bed mattress when the insertion portion is inserted between the top surface of the bed and the underside of the bed mattress, and further the bed guard portion has a quilt fall prevention portion that stands upright from one side of the bed and lower than the top surface of the bed mattress .

Furthermore, the handrail portion is characterized by being formed with an incline at least in two or more points from the lower end to the upper end of the handrail portion toward the other side of the bed.

The bed guard with handrails of the present invention can be easily installed on any bed that has a mattress or futon placed on top by inserting the insert part between the bed and the mattress or futon. Since the handrail at the upper end of the handrail part is positioned closer to the other side of the bed than the side on which the handrail part is erected, the user can grasp the handrail and move their body to the center of the bed when getting on. Furthermore, when getting off the bed, the user can grasp the handrail and raise their upper body from a position in the center of the bed, or move their body to the side of the bed.

Furthermore, by forming a gap between the bed guard part and one side of the bed mattress, the comforter can be draped over the bed mattress by dropping the edge of the comforter from the top surface of the bed mattress to the side of the bed mattress. Therefore, compared to when there is no gap between the bed guard part and one side of the bed mattress, the comforter can be draped over the bed mattress neatly, and the increased friction between the bed mattress and the comforter prevents the comforter from slipping off.

Furthermore, the handrail portion and the comforter fall prevention portion prevent the comforter from slipping off the bed, but the abutment portion creates a gap between the bed guard portion and one side of the bed mattress, and since the edge of the comforter enters this gap so that it hangs down from the edge of the bed mattress, the comforter fall prevention portion does not need to be formed higher than the top surface of the bed mattress; rather, by forming it lower than the top surface of the bed mattress, the comforter fall prevention portion does not interfere with the user's physical movement when getting on and off the bed.

Furthermore, because the insertion section is formed from a horizontally flattened elliptical pipe, it can be easily inserted between the top surface of the bed and the underside of the bed mattress. When the insertion section is inserted between the top surface of the bed and the underside of the bed mattress, it does not affect the comfort of the mattress compared to a circular pipe. Furthermore, because the contact area with the top surface of the bed is increased compared to a circular pipe, the bed guard with handrails is more stable.

One embodiment of the bed guard with handrails 1 according to the present invention will now be described with reference to the drawings. Furthermore, to enhance the rigidity of the handrail unit 21, the handrail unit 21 has multiple semicircular connecting members 214 fixed between the two pipes 211 to connect them together. In one embodiment of the present invention, multiple semicircular connecting members 214 are used. However, the rigidity of the handrail unit 21 can also be enhanced by using other shaped members, such as a long member draped over the two pipes 211, as long as they can connect the two pipes 211 together. The connecting members 214 also have a decorative effect.

As shown in Figures 1 to 4, the comforter fall prevention section 22 is formed in a frame shape from a horizontally long pipe member 221, one end of which is fixed to one pipe member 211a of the handrail section 21, and a pipe member 222 that stands upright and supports and fixes the other end of the pipe member 221 from below at its upper end.

As shown in Figures 1 to 4, the insertion section 3 is bent horizontally from the lower end of the bed guard section 2 to form a frame-like shape. A single pipe member 31 is bent horizontally to form a U-shape when viewed from above, forming the frame-like insertion section 3. One end of the single pipe member 31 is connected to the lower end of the other pipe member 211b of the handrail section 21, and the other end of the single pipe member 31 is connected to the lower end of the pipe member 222 of the comforter fall prevention section 22. In other words, the other pipe member 211b of the handrail section 21 and the pipe member 222 of the comforter fall prevention section 22 are connected to one pipe member via the single pipe member 31 of the insertion section 3. One pipe member 211a of the handrail section 21 is also bent horizontally from the lower end of the pipe member 211a, and its tip is welded to the pipe member 31 of the insertion section 3, forming part of the insertion section 3. As shown in Figures 5 to 7, the handrail-equipped bed guard 1 is attached to the bed 5 by inserting and sandwiching the insertion part 3 between the upper surface 53 of the bed 5 and the underside 62 of the bed mattress 6 from one side 51 of the bed 5. In this embodiment, the other pipe member 211b of the handrail part 21 and the pipe member 222 of the comforter drop prevention part 22, and the single pipe member 31 of the insertion part 3 are formed by bending a single pipe member and connecting them, but they may also be formed by fixing the ends of each pipe member together rather than forming them from a single pipe member.

As shown in Figures 1 to 4, the contact portion 4 is formed into a frame shape by bending both ends of a horizontally long rod-shaped member downward. As shown in Figure 7, when the insertion portion 3 is inserted between the upper surface 53 of the bed 5 and the lower surface 62 of the mattress 6, the contact portion 4 is fixed to the upper surface of the insertion portion 3 by welding or the like so that it protrudes upward and contacts one side surface 63 of the mattress 6 before the bed guard portion 2 contacts it, forming a gap 8 between the bed guard portion 2 and one side surface 63 of the mattress 6. As shown in Figure 7, by forming the gap 8 between the bed guard portion 2 and one side surface 63 of the mattress 6, the bed guard portion 2 does not contact the one side surface 63 of the mattress 6, so the edge 71 of the comforter 7 can be dropped into the gap 8 so that it hangs from the upper surface 61 of the mattress 6 to the side surface of the mattress 6 and draped over the mattress 6. This allows the comforter 7 to be neatly draped over the bed mattress 6, and also increases the frictional resistance between the comforter 7 and the bed mattress 6, preventing the comforter 7 from slipping off.

In this embodiment, the first inclination point 215 is inclined at 7 degrees from the vertical toward the other side 52 of the bed 5, and the second inclination point 216 is inclined at 45 degrees from the vertical toward the other side 52 of the bed 5. The length from the first inclination point 215 to the second inclination point 216 is 35 cm, and the length from the second inclination point 216 to the handrail 212 is 6 cm. In other embodiments, the inclination angle of the first inclination point relative to the vertical may be 5 to 10 degrees, the inclination angle of the second inclination point 216 relative to the vertical may be 40 to 50 degrees, the length from the first inclination point to the second inclination point may be 30 to 40 cm, and the length from the second inclination point to the handrail may be 5 to 10 cm. This will position the handrail 212 in a way that is easy for the person using the bed to use.

Furthermore, by sloping the handrail section 21 in two stages, at the first sloping point 215 and the second sloping point 216, the slope of the handrail section 21 can be made gentler than if it were sloped at only one point. As a result, the handrail 212 at the upper end of the handrail section 21 can be positioned closer to the other side 52 of the bed 5 than to one side 51 of the bed 5, without the bed occupant feeling a sense of oppression from the handrail section 21. As shown in Figures 5 to 7, when the bed guard with handrails 1 is attached to the bed 5, the quilt fall prevention part 22 is formed so that the pipe material 221 at the top end of the quilt fall prevention part 22 is positioned lower than the top surface 61 of the bed mattress 6. The parts of conventional bed guards that prevent the quilt from falling are designed to abut the side of the bed mattress 6, and therefore must be formed higher than the top surface of the bed mattress to prevent the quilt from falling. The insertion section 3 is formed by bending a flattened elliptical pipe material so that it is horizontally flattened. Therefore, the insertion section 3 is easy to insert between the upper surface 53 of the bed 5 and the lower surface 62 of the mattress 6. Even when the insertion section 3 is inserted between the upper surface 53 of the bed 5 and the lower surface 62 of the mattress 6, the insertion section 3 is horizontally flattened, so it does not affect the comfort of the mattress 6. Furthermore, a flattened elliptical pipe material with a horizontally flattened shape requires a larger installation area on the upper surface 53 of the bed 5 than a circular pipe material, thereby providing greater stability for the bed guard with handrails 1. Furthermore, if a fixing hole 32 is provided that penetrates vertically through the pipe material 31 of the insertion section 3, the bed guard with handrails 1 can be fixed to the bed 5 by passing a screw or other screw through this fixing hole 32 from above and driving it into the bed 5 below the fixing hole 32, or by passing a screw or other screw through the fixing hole 32 from above and screwing it into a female thread provided on the bed 5 below the fixing hole 32.
