Description

The present invention relates to a connecting structure for furring strips used in fences, etc.

Generally, fences installed along property boundaries are constructed by hanging multiple furring strips made of angle bars or similar materials between posts erected in the ground at specified intervals, and then stretching a net over the furring strips. Furthermore, if the total length of a single furring strip is shorter than the installed length of the fence, the fence is constructed by connecting multiple furring strips lengthwise.

A variety of conventional furring strip connection structures are known, but for example, as shown in Figure 10, the end faces of two adjacent furring strips are butted together and connected by tightening multiple bolts and nuts via a joint piece with a side that is shorter than the side of the furring strip.

Patent Document 1 also describes a structure in which one end of a furring strip is recessed inward by the thickness of the plate to form a drawn portion, and the other end of the other furring strip is then overlapped with this drawn portion and fastened together with bolts.

This type of furring strip connection structure simplifies the furring strip connection structure, reducing manufacturing costs and enabling fences to be provided at low cost, which has the economic effect of making it possible to achieve this.

Japanese Utility Model Laid-Open Publication No. 49-139833

However, conventional furring strip connection structures require adjacent furring strips to be fastened with bolts using joint fittings, which increases the number of parts required and makes assembly complicated. Furthermore, as described in Patent Document 1, the main posts and furring strips are attached to each other using fasteners, but a structure that connects furring strips with joint fittings also presents the problem that joint fittings cannot be used at the attachment points between the main posts and furring strips.

The present invention was developed in consideration of the above problems, and aims to provide a furring strip connecting structure that reduces the number of parts, simplifies assembly work, and allows furring strips to be connected at the main pillar position.

Below, preferred embodiments for carrying out the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Note that the following embodiments do not limit the inventions described in the claims, and not all combinations of features described in the embodiments are necessarily essential to the solution of the invention.

Figure 1 shows one form of fence installed using the furring strip connecting structure of this embodiment, Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the furring strip connecting structure of this embodiment, Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the entire first furring strip and second furring strip used in the furring strip connecting structure of this embodiment, Figure 4 is a perspective view of a fastener used in the furring strip connecting structure of this embodiment, Figure 5 is a side view of a fastener used in the furring strip connecting structure of this embodiment, Figure 6 is an assembly diagram of the furring strip connecting structure of this embodiment, Figure 7 is a plan view showing the furring strip connecting structure of this embodiment, Figure 8 is a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A in Figure 7, and Figure 9 is a diagram showing another method of using a fastener used in the furring strip connecting structure of this embodiment.

In this specification, the leading and trailing ends in the longitudinal direction are defined as the directions and orientations of the arrows shown in Figure 3. Also, in this specification, the height direction, width direction, and the inside and outside of the fence furring strip are defined as the directions and orientations of the arrows shown in Figure 3.

As shown in Figure 1, the furring strips 1 used in the furring strip connection structure of this embodiment are installed between posts 2 erected at intervals on the ground at the height that will form the upper and lower edges of the fence 100, and a net 3 is attached.

As shown in Figure 1, the posts 2 comprise a main post 2a with a generally V-shaped cross section and a net 3 on both sides of the post, and an end post 2b with a generally L-shaped cross section and a net 3 on one side of the post. Both the main post 2a and the end post 2b are preferably made from general structural rolled steel or the like. Furthermore, the main post 2a and the end post 2b are provided with through-holes for bolts at the heights that correspond to the upper and lower edges of the fence 100, and the furring strips 1 are attached to the posts 2 using bolts that pass through the through-holes and fasteners, described below.

The net 3 is a member made of multiple iron wires, and is preferably a wire mesh made by processing the iron wires into a series of mountains and weaving them together to form a diamond-shaped mesh. Because the joints between the multiple iron wires are not fixed by welding or other means, the net 3 itself is flexible and has shock-absorbing properties. The net 3 is attached by hooking it onto the net claws 16 (described below) formed on the furring strip 1.

As shown in Figure 2, the furring strip connection structure of this embodiment longitudinally connects a first furring strip 1a having a horizontal edge 10a and a vertical edge 20a extending along the longitudinal direction, and a second furring strip 1b having a horizontal edge 10b and a vertical edge 20b extending along the longitudinal direction. The structure includes an overlapping portion where one end of the first furring strip 1a overlaps the other end of the second furring strip 1b, and fasteners 40 that clamp the horizontal edges 10a, 10b of the first furring strip 1a and the second furring strip 1b at the overlapping portion 30 from the width direction of the first furring strip 1a and the second furring strip 1b. The fasteners 40 are attached to the main posts 2a via bolts 50.

As shown in Figure 1, furring strips 1 form the upper and lower edges of fence 100 by longitudinally connecting the tip end (one end in the claims) of first furring strip 1a, which is an adjacent fence furring strip, with the base end (the other end in the claims) of second furring strip 1b. The first furring strip 1a and second furring strip 1b that make up furring strip 1 are both members of the same shape, and it is preferable to use angle irons with an L-shaped cross section having horizontal sides 10a, 10b and vertical sides 20a, 20b, as shown in Figure 3.

The first furring strip 1a and the second furring strip 1b are formed from thick, general structural rolled steel or similar material, and are preferably treated with zinc plating or electrostatic powder coating using a polyester resin base paint to prevent corrosion due to rust, etc. In this specification, the horizontally positioned sides of the first furring strip 1a and the second furring strip 1b are referred to as horizontal sides 10a, 10b, and the vertically positioned sides are referred to as vertical sides 20a, 20b, depending on the mounting orientation on the fence 100.

At the tip of the first furring strip 1a, the horizontal edge 10a and vertical edge 20a are recessed inward, and a drawn portion 12 is formed, consisting of a horizontal surface 13 approximately parallel to the horizontal edge 10a and a vertical surface 14 approximately parallel to the vertical edge 20a. The outer surface of the drawn portion 12 is smoothly connected to the outer surfaces of the horizontal edge 10a and vertical edge 20a, which are not recessed inward, by a tapered portion 11. In addition, the drawn portion 12 is formed with a fastener locking portion 15, which is formed by cutting out the horizontal surface 13 of the drawn portion 12 in the width direction.

When the first furring strip 1a and the second furring strip 1b are connected, the outer surface of the drawn portion 12 abuts against the inner surface of the base end of the second furring strip 1b. In this way, the base end of the second furring strip 1b abuts against the outer surface of the drawn portion 12, so that when the first furring strip 1a and the second furring strip 1b are connected, the horizontal edges 10a, 10b and vertical edges 20a, 20b are approximately flush with each other. This maintains the straightness of the furring strip 1 after connection and does not impair its aesthetic appearance. Therefore, it is preferable that the outer surface of the drawn portion 12 be recessed inward by the plate thickness relative to the outer surfaces of the horizontal edges 10a and vertical edges 20a.

In addition, multiple net claws 16 that protrude inward in the width direction are formed at regular intervals on the vertical edge 20a of the first furring strip 1a and the vertical edge 20b of the second furring strip 1b. The net claws 16 are preferably formed by shearing and plastically deforming portions of the vertical edges 20a, 20b, for example, by press working.

By providing multiple such net claws 16 along the entire length of the furring strip 1, the net 3 can be secured at the top and bottom of the fence 100.

In this embodiment, the net claws 16 are formed by shearing a portion of the vertical edges 20a, 20b using press working and plastically deforming them, but the method for forming the net claws 16 is not limited to this. They may also be formed from the same material as the first furring strips 1a and second furring strips 1b and attached to the vertical edges 20a, 20b by welding.

As shown in Figure 4, the fastener 40 has a pair of legs 41, 41 and a curved portion 42 that connects one end of the legs 41 in an arc shape. It is a member formed by bending a flat plate of a specified thickness into a roughly U-shape along the width direction of the furring strip 1. The curved portion 42 and the upper part of the pair of legs 41 form a bolt insertion portion 43 through which a bolt 50, described below, can be inserted. In addition, a notch 44 extending along the width direction is formed in the leg 41.

As shown in Figure 5, the cutout portion 44 is configured as a stepped groove having a first step 45 extending in the width direction and a second step 46 formed continuous with the first step 45. The groove width G1 of the first step 45 is a groove width that allows one horizontal edge 10a, 10b or one vertical edge 20a, 20b of the furring strip 1 to be inserted therethrough, and is formed slightly larger than the thickness of the furring strip 1. The groove width G2 of the second step 46 is a groove width that allows one overlapping portion 30 formed by overlapping the horizontal edges 10a, 10b or the vertical edges 20a, 20b of the furring strip 1 to be inserted therethrough, and is formed slightly larger than twice the thickness of the furring strip 1. A step portion 47 is formed where the first step 45 and second step 46 are connected.

Next, the assembly procedure for the furring strip connection structure according to this embodiment will be explained with reference to Figures 6 to 9. As shown in Figure 6, the inner surface of the base end portion 4 of the first furring strip 1a is abutted against the outer surface of the drawn portion 12 of the second furring strip 1b, forming an overlapping portion 30 where the horizontal edge 10a of the first furring strip 1a and the horizontal surface 13 of the drawn portion 12 overlap.

As shown in Figure 7, the fastener 40 is inserted into the overlapping portion 30 along the width direction of the furring strip 1 and fastened to the main column 2a with a bolt 50. At this time, the bolt 50 is inserted into the bolt insertion portion 43 of the fastener 40 and threaded into a nut 51 engaged with the end 48 of the fastener 40. The fastener 40 is attached so that its outer surface fits into the fastener engaging portion 15 formed on the tapered portion 12. The fastener 40 is restrained in the longitudinal direction of the furring strip 1 by engaging with the fastener engaging portion 15, and is restrained in the width direction by tightening the bolt 50 and nut 51, fixing its position.

As shown in Figure 8, the overlapping portion 30 of the furring strip 1 is inserted into the cutout 44 of the fastener 40, with the horizontal edge 10a of the first furring strip 1a inserted into the first step 45 of the cutout 44 and the horizontal edge 10b of the second furring strip 1b inserted into the second step 46 of the cutout 44. The fastener locking portion 15 formed on the horizontal edge 10b of the second furring strip 1b abuts against the step 47 formed in the cutout 44 of the fastener 40.

The fasteners 40 can also be used to fasten the furring strips 1 to the main posts 2a at points other than the connecting portion of the furring strips 1. In this case, as shown in Figure 9, the horizontal edge 10a can be inserted into the first step 45 of the cutout portion 44 of the fastener 40 to secure the furring strips 1 to the main posts 2a.

As described above, with the furring strip connection structure of this embodiment, the tapered portion 12 is formed at the tip of the second furring strip 1b, and the base end portion 4 of the second furring strip 1b is overlapped on this tapered portion 12 to form the overlapping portion 30. The overlapping portion 30 is then sandwiched between fasteners 40, which are then fixed to the main pillar 2a, thereby connecting the furring strips. This means that the furring strips can be connected and fixed to the main pillar with a single bolt, reducing the number of parts, such as joint pieces, bolts, and nuts, that were previously required when connecting furring strips, thereby reducing manufacturing costs and enabling the first furring strip 1a and second furring strip 1b to be easily connected.

In the above embodiment, we have described a case where a drawn portion 12 is formed in the second furring strip 1b. However, it is also possible to form an overlapping portion by overlapping the base end of the first furring strip and the tip end of the second furring strip without forming a drawn portion 12. Furthermore, in the above embodiment, we have described a case where the tapered portion 11 is formed so as to be inclined with respect to the horizontal sides 10a, 10b and vertical sides 20a, 20b, and is connected to the drawn portion 12. However, the tapered portion 11 may be formed in a stepped shape that is perpendicular to the horizontal sides 10a, 10b and vertical sides 20a, 20b. It is clear from the claims that such modified or improved forms are also within the technical scope of the present invention.
