The present invention relates to a pen case with a pen stand for storing pens, such as writing instruments.

Patent Document 1 below discloses a pencil case with a pen holder. In this pencil case, the main body of the pencil case is opened by folding the extended lid in half. A retaining ring into which a writing implement is inserted is provided on the underside of the lid.

Japanese Utility Model Application Publication No. 57-15228

The pen case described in Patent Document 1 allows a writing instrument to stand up by inserting the writing instrument into a stop ring, but the stop ring is provided on the lid plate that opens and closes the main body of the pen case, so a pen case without a lid cannot be equipped with a pen holder such as a stop ring.

Therefore, one of the objects of the present invention is to provide a pen case with a pen stand that allows pens to be stood up even without a lid.

One embodiment of the present invention provides a pen case with a pen stand, which includes a bag-shaped storage compartment with an inner surface that forms a storage space for reclining pens, an openable/closable opening/closing section through which pens pass to and from the storage compartment, and a pen stand that supports upright pens, wherein the inner surface of the storage compartment includes a bottom surface that is positioned below the pens reclining within the storage compartment, and the pen stand supports the upright pens by contacting the outer periphery of the upright pens that extends upward from the bottom surface of the storage compartment within the storage compartment, and is spaced upward from the bottom surface so that pens reclining on the bottom surface of the storage compartment can be positioned between the pen stand and the bottom surface.

In the above embodiment, at least one of the following features may be added to the pen case with pen stand:

The inner surface of the storage compartment includes the bottom surface and an inner circumferential surface extending upward from the bottom surface, and the pen stand and the inner circumferential surface of the storage compartment completely surround the upright pen extending upward from the bottom surface.

The pen stand can be transformed between a usage configuration in which a vertical storage space for pens extending upward from the bottom surface is formed between the pen stand and the inner peripheral surface, and a storage configuration in which the horizontal distance between the pen stand and the inner peripheral surface is narrower than in the usage configuration.

The length of the storage compartment in the left-right direction, which represents the horizontal direction along the center line of the pen lying within the storage compartment, is longer than the length of the storage compartment in the front-to-back direction, which represents the horizontal direction perpendicular to the left-to-right direction, and the pen stand has a length in the front-to-back direction that can support multiple pens extending upright from the bottom surface and lined up in the front-to-back direction.

The length of the storage compartment in the left-right direction, which represents the horizontal direction along the center line of the pen lying within the storage compartment, is longer than the length of the storage compartment in the front-to-back direction, which represents the horizontal direction perpendicular to the left-to-right direction, and the opening/closing section is a zipper that includes a slider that can move in the left-to-right direction between a closed position where the pen cannot enter or exit the storage compartment and an open position where the pen can enter or exit the storage compartment, and when the pen case with pen stand is viewed from above, the pen stand is positioned between the closed position and the open position in the left-to-right direction so that it is located on the open position side.

This invention provides a pen case with a pen stand that allows pens to stand upright even without a lid.

Embodiments of the present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Unless otherwise specified, the following describes the pen case 1 with pen stand in its standard state. The standard state is when the pen case 1 is placed on a horizontal surface, no tangible objects other than those on the horizontal surface are touching the pen case 1, the pen case 1 is empty, the zipper, which is an example of the opening/closing section 11, is fully open, and the pen stand 21, which can be transformed between a usage form and a storage form, is in its usage form.

In the following, the horizontal direction along the center line of the pen P1 lying inside the pen case 1 is defined as the left-right direction, and the horizontal direction perpendicular to the left-right direction is defined as the front-back direction. The up-down direction is the direction perpendicular to both the left-right and front-back directions (the vertical direction). The left-right, front-back, and up-down directions of the pen case 1 correspond to the width, depth, and height directions of the pen case 1, respectively. As shown in Figure 1, if the opening/closing section 11 is a zipper including a slider 14 that can move between a closed position and an open position, the closed position side of the slider 14 (the front side in Figure 1) is the right side.

Pens P1 and P2 may be any of the following: pencil, mechanical pencil, highlighter, felt-tip pen, pen-shaped eraser, touch pen (a pen-shaped pointing device for a touch panel), and writing brush, or other items. In other words, pens are not limited to writing implements as long as they are rod-shaped and small enough to be held in one hand. The outer diameter of the pen (excluding protrusions such as clips and caps) (maximum outer diameter; the same applies below) may be 5 to 20 mm, or may be outside this range. The total length of pens P1 and P2 (the length in the axial direction of pens P1 and P2; the length including accessories such as caps, if any) may be 50 to 250 mm, or may be outside this range. The following describes an example in which the outer diameter of pens P1 and P2 is 12 mm and the total length of pens P1 and P2 is 130 mm.

First, we will provide an overview of the pen case with pen stand 1.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of pen case 1 with a pen stand. Figure 2 is an external view of pen case 1 with the fastener closed. Figures 2(a), 2(b), 2(c), 2(d), and 2(e) are a left side view, a top view, a front view, a bottom view, and a right side view, respectively, of pen case 1 with a pen stand.

As shown in Figure 1, the pen case with pen stand 1 comprises a case body 2 that stores pens P1, and a pen stand 21 that supports upright pens P2. The case body 2 includes a bag-shaped storage section 3 that stores multiple lying pens P1, and an openable/closable opening/closing section 11 through which the pens P1 pass as they enter and exit the storage section 3. The pen stand 21 is located within the storage section 3. The pen stand 21 contacts the outer surface of the upright pen P2 within the storage section 3, thereby maintaining the pen P2 in an upright position, either vertically or at an angle.

At least a portion of the storage section 3 may be made from any of the following materials: cloth, resin, natural leather, synthetic leather, artificial leather, wood, paper, rubber string with a round or flat cross section made from cloth thread and rubber thread, and metal, or it may be made from other materials. The same applies to the pen holder 21. The material of the storage section 3 may be the same as or different from the material of the pen holder 21. At least a portion of the storage section 3 may be made from a material with rubber elasticity, such as rubber or resin. The same applies to the pen holder 21.

The storage section 3 includes a bottom section 4 that is placed under the pen P1 when it is lying on its side, and a tubular section 5 that surrounds the entire circumference of the pen P1 when it is lying on its side on the bottom section 4. The bottom of the tubular section 5 is closed by the bottom section 4. The tubular section 5 extends upward from the entire circumference of the bottom section 4. The tubular section 5 forms an opening above the bottom section 4 through which the pen P1 enters and exits. An opening/closing section 11 is attached to the tubular section 5. Figure 1 shows an example in which the opening/closing section 11 is a zipper.

As shown in Figures 2(a) to (e), when the opening/closing unit 11 is closed, the storage unit 3 has the shape of a triangular prism lying on its side. When the opening/closing unit 11 is closed, the right and left sides of the storage unit 3 are triangular. When the opening/closing unit 11 is closed, the front, back, and bottom of the storage unit 3 have a rectangular shape that is long in the left-right direction. A zipper, which is an example of the opening/closing unit 11, is located above the storage unit 3 and overlaps the storage unit 3 in a plan view.

The width (length in the left-right direction; the same applies below) of the storage section 3 is longer than the total length of the pen P1 to be stored in the pen case 1. The depth (length in the front-to-back direction; the same applies below; in Figure 2(d) the length in the up-to-down direction on the paper) of the storage section 3 is at least twice the outer diameter of the pen P1. The width of the storage section 3 is longer than the depth of the storage section 3 and is longer than the height (length in the up-to-down direction; the same applies below). The height of the storage section 3 is longer than the depth of the storage section 3. The height of the storage section 3 may be shorter than the depth of the storage section 3.

The bottom 4 of the storage unit 3 is rectangular and elongated from side to side. The tubular portion 5 of the storage unit 3 is cylindrical with a horizontal cross section that is rectangular and elongated from side to side. The tubular portion 5 includes a sheet-like front portion 5f and a rear portion 5b that face each other from front to back with a gap between them, and a pair of sheet-like side portions 5s that face each other from side to side with a gap between them.

The front portion 5f and the rear portion 5b extend upward from the two long sides of the bottom portion 4. The pair of side portions 5s extend upward from the two short sides of the bottom portion 4. The front portion 5f and the rear portion 5b extend from the right side portion 5s to the left side portion 5s. The upper edges 3u (long edges) of the front portion 5f and the rear portion 5b face each other horizontally from front to back with a gap between them. The upper edges of the pair of side portions 5s face each other horizontally from left to right with a gap between them.

The front portion 5f and rear portion 5b are rectangular in shape and elongated from side to side. The side portion 5s is rectangular in shape and elongated from top to bottom. The storage section 3 is soft enough to be easily deformed by touch. As shown in Figures 2(a) and 2(e), when the opening/closing section 11 is closed, the side portion 5s is bent and deformed into an isosceles triangle that is elongated from top to bottom. When the opening/closing section 11 is opened or the distance between the upper edges 3u of the front portion 5f and rear portion 5b is increased, the width of the top of the side portion 5s (here, the length in the front-to-back direction) increases, and the side portion 5s becomes more rectangular.

The front portion 5f and the rear portion 5b have the same width and height. The width of the front portion 5f and the rear portion 5b is equal to the width of the bottom portion 4. The depth of the side portion 5s (here, the length of the bottom edge of the side portion 5s in the front-to-rear direction) is equal to the depth of the bottom portion 4. When the side portion 5s is a rectangular shape that is long vertically, the height of the side portion 5s may be equal to the height of the front portion 5f and the rear portion 5b, or may be shorter or longer than the height of the front portion 5f and the rear portion 5b.

As shown in FIG. 2(b), a zipper, which is an example of an opening/closing section 11, includes a pair of strip-shaped tapes 12 attached to the storage section 3, multiple small pieces 13 forming two rows extending along the long sides of the pair of tapes 12, a slider 14 that moves along the two rows of small pieces 13, and a stopper 15 that connects the ends of the pair of tapes 12. The pair of tapes 12 face each other horizontally from front to back. One tape 12 is attached to the upper edge 3u of the front section 5f, and the other tape 12 is attached to the upper edge 3u of the rear section 5b. The multiple small pieces 13 forming one row are attached to one tape 12, and the multiple small pieces 13 forming the other row are attached to the other tape 12. The slider 14 is held to the pair of tapes 12 via the multiple small pieces 13.

The slider 14 is movable along the two rows of small pieces 13 between a closed position (the position shown in Figures 2(a) to (c)) in which the slider 14 is located at the end of the pair of tapes 12 opposite the stopper 15, and an open position (the position shown in Figure 1) in which the slider 14 contacts the stopper 15. When the slider 14 is in the closed position, the two rows of small pieces 13 are interlocked with each other from end to end, and the zipper is fully closed. When the slider 14 is in the open position, the two rows of small pieces 13 are separated from each other from end to end, and the zipper is fully open. The length of the area where the two rows of small pieces 13 are interlocked with each other and the length of the area where the two rows of small pieces 13 are separated from each other vary depending on the position of the slider 14. When the zipper is fully or partially open, items such as the pen P1 can be inserted into and removed from the storage section 3 through the gap between the pair of tapes 12.

The tape 12 extends left and right along the top edge 3u of the storage section 3. The tape 12 is soft enough to be easily shaped by touch. When the tape 12 is stretched out in a straight line, it is longer left and right than the top edge 3u of the storage section 3. Part of the tape 12 extends beyond the top edge 3u of the storage section 3 to the left (to the right side of the paper in Figures 2(b) and 2(c)). The pair of tapes 12 extending beyond the top edge 3u of the storage section 3 are sagging downward due to their own weight. The stopper 15 is attached to the part of the pair of tapes 12 extending beyond the top edge 3u of the storage section 3.

The pen case with pen stand 1 includes a snap button that fastens the portions of the pair of tapes 12 that protrude from the storage compartment 3 to the surface (outer surface) of the storage compartment 3. As shown in FIG. 2(e), the snap button includes a concave part 16 attached to the stopper 15 and a convex part 17 attached to the storage compartment 3. The convex part of the convex part 17 is exposed on the left side of the storage compartment 3. When the portions of the pair of tapes 12 that protrude from the storage compartment 3 are bent, the concave part 16 covers the convex part 17. In this state, when the concave part 16 is pushed toward the convex part 17, the convex part of the convex part 17 fits into the concave part of the concave part 16, and the concave part 16 is held by the convex part 17. If the concave part 16 is then pulled with a force greater than a certain level, the concave part 16 detaches from the convex part 17, and the snap button releases the pair of tapes 12 from being held in place.

Next, we will explain the pen holder 21.

Figure 3 is a plan view of a portion of the pen case 1 showing the pen stand 21. Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view of the pen case 1 showing a vertical cross-section of the pen case 1. Figure 4 shows a cross-section along a vertical plane FB that bisects the storage section 3 into front and rear halves. Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view of the pen case 1 showing a horizontal cross-section of the pen case 1 taken along line V-V shown in Figure 4. The pen stand 21 shown in solid lines in Figure 5 is an example of how the pen stand 21 can be used, and the pen stand 21 shown in dashed lines in Figure 5 is an example of how the pen stand 21 can be stored.

As described above, the pen case 1 with a pen stand includes a pen stand 21 that supports an upright pen P2. As shown in FIG. 3, when the zipper is fully or partially open, all or part of the pen stand 21 is visible from above the pen case 1. When the zipper is fully closed, no part of the pen stand 21 is visible. The pen stand 21 is positioned so that it does not overlap with the vertical plane LR (see FIG. 2(b)) that bisects the storage section 3 into left and right halves. FIG. 3 shows an example in which the pen stand 21 is positioned offset toward the open position of the slider 14 (the position of the slider 14 shown in FIG. 3). The pen stand 21 is positioned so that it overlaps with the vertical plane FB (see FIG. 2(b)) that bisects the storage section 3 into front and back halves.

The pen stand 21 is positioned below at least a portion of the opening/closing section 11. When the pen case 1 is viewed from above, the pen stand 21 is located between the closed position of the slider 14 and the open position of the slider 14 in the left-right direction. The shortest left-right distance from the closed position of the slider 14 to the pen stand 21 may be longer than the shortest left-right distance from the open position of the slider 14 to the pen stand 21, or it may be shorter than this shortest distance. In other words, the pen stand 21 may be positioned on the open position side of the slider 14. The shortest left-right distance from the open position of the slider 14 to the pen stand 21 may be shorter than the shortest vertical distance D4 (see Figure 4) from the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3 to the lower edge 21L of the middle portion 21i of the pen stand 21, or it may be longer than this shortest distance D4.

Figure 3 shows an example in which the pen stand 21 is a single rectangular band of uniform thickness. The pen stand 21 is attached to the storage section 3 with the short sides of the pen stand 21 extending vertically. The front and back surfaces of the rectangular pen stand 21 extend vertically. One end 21a and the other end 21b of the pen stand 21 in the longitudinal direction (along the long sides) are fixed to the inner front portion 8f and the inner rear portion 8b of the inner surface 6 of the storage section 3, which will be described later.

The pen stand 21 spans from the inner front portion 8f to the inner rear portion 8b. The pen stand 21 is fixed to the inner surface 6 of the storage section 3 at two positions facing each other at a distance from each other. The middle portion 21i of the pen stand 21, which extends from one end 21a of the pen stand 21 to the other end 21b of the pen stand 21, does not contact the inner surface 6 of the storage section 3 and is positioned in the air. The one end 21a and the other end 21b of the pen stand 21 are contacting portions that contact the storage section 3, while the middle portion 21i of the pen stand 21 is a non-contacting portion that does not contact the storage section 3.

The inner surface 6 of the storage section 3 forms a storage space S1 that stores the pen P1 lying down. As shown in FIG. 4 , the inner surface 6 of the storage section 3 includes a bottom surface 7 that is positioned below the pen P1 lying down inside the storage section 3, and an inner circumferential surface 8 that extends upward from the bottom surface 7. The bottom surface 7 is the upper surface of the bottom 4 of the storage section 3. The inner circumferential surface 8 is the inner surface of the tubular section 5 of the storage section 3. The inner circumferential surface 8 includes an inner front portion 8f and an inner rear portion 8b that face each other front to back with a gap between them, and a pair of inner side portions 8s that face each other left to right with a gap between them. The inner front portion 8f is the inner surface of the front portion 5f of the tubular section 5 (the rear surface of the front portion 5f). The inner rear portion 8b is the inner surface of the rear portion 5b of the tubular section 5 (the front surface of the front portion 5f). The pair of inner side portions 8s are the inner surfaces of the pair of side portions 5s of the tubular section 5.

The pen stand 21 includes a contact area 22 representing the entire area within the storage section 3 that can come into contact with the outer periphery of the upright pen P2 extending upward from the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3. Figure 3 shows an example in which the entire pen stand 21 is M-shaped in plan view, and the intermediate section 21i including the contact area 22 is U-shaped in plan view, recessed to the right (left side of the paper in Figure 3). The contact area 22, together with the inner periphery 8 of the storage section 3, forms a vertical placement space S3 within the storage section 3 that surrounds the entire periphery of the upright pen P2 extending upward from the bottom surface 7. When viewed from above, the shortest distance D1 from the contact area 22 of the pen stand 21 to the inner periphery 8 of the storage section 3 in the left-right direction is longer than the outer diameter of the pen P1. The shortest distance D1 may be shorter than or greater than the shortest distance D4 (see Figure 4) from the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3 to the lower edge 21L of the intermediate section 21i of the pen stand 21.

As shown in Figure 3, when the pen case 1 is viewed from above, the pen stand 21 divides the storage space S1 into two adjacent spaces, a vertical space S3 and a horizontal space S2, which are located to the left and right. When the pen case 1 is viewed from above, the vertical space S3 and the horizontal space S2 are located on opposite sides of the pen stand 21. The vertical space S3 is connected to the horizontal space S2 above and below the pen stand 21. The vertical space S3 is shorter in the left-right direction than the horizontal space S2. When the pen case 1 is viewed from above, the vertical space S3 has an area large enough to accommodate one or more pens P2. Figure 3 shows an example in which the vertical space S3 has an area large enough to accommodate multiple pens P2 when viewed from above. In this example, the pen stand 21 has a length in the front-to-back direction large enough to support multiple pens P2 extending upward from the bottom surface 7 in a line aligned front to back (top to bottom in Figure 3).

As shown in Figure 4, the pen stand 21 is positioned between the upper edge 3u of the storage section 3 and the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3. The upper edge 21u of the pen stand 21 is spaced downward from the upper edge 3u of the storage section 3. The lower edge 21L of the pen stand 21 is spaced upward from the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3. A gap between the lower edge 21L of the pen stand 21 and the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3 is formed that is larger than the outer diameter of the pen P1 lying on the bottom surface 7. Figure 4 shows an example in which the gap between the lower edge 21L of the pen stand 21 and the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3 is more than twice the outer diameter of the pen P1. The pen P1 lying in the storage section 3 can fit under the pen stand 21.

The shortest vertical distance D2 from the upper edge 21u of the middle portion 21i of the pen stand 21 to the upper edge 3u of the storage section 3 may be longer than or equal to the outer diameter of the pen P1. The shortest distance D2 may be shorter than or equal to the shortest vertical distance D4 from the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3 to the lower edge 21L of the middle portion 21i of the pen stand 21. In the former case, the position at which the pen stand 21 supports the upright pen P2 is closer to the center of gravity of the pen P2, making the upright pen P2 less likely to tip over. The shortest vertical distance D3 from the lower edge 21L of the middle portion 21i of the pen stand 21 to the upper edge 21u of the middle portion 21i of the pen stand 21 may be longer than or equal to the shortest distance D2. In the former case, the pen stand 21 supports the upright pen P2 over a wider area, making the upright pen P2 less likely to tip over. The shortest distance D4 may be longer than the shortest distance D3, or may be shorter than the shortest distance D3. In the former case, more pens P1 can be placed horizontally under the pen stand 21.

The pen holder 21 is soft enough to be easily shaped by touch. The pen holder 21 can be transformed between a usage form and a storage form. The pen holder 21 shown in solid lines in Figure 5 is an example of a usage form of the pen holder 21, and the pen holder 21 shown in dashed lines in Figure 5 is an example of a storage form of the pen holder 21.

When the pen stand 21 is in use, a vertical storage space S3 is formed between the pen stand 21 and the inner surface 8, in which an upright pen P2 extending upward from the bottom surface 7 is placed. When the pen stand 21 is stored, the horizontal distance between the pen stand 21 and the inner surface 8 is narrower than when the pen stand 21 is in use. When the pen stand 21 is in the stored state, the distance between the contact area 22 of the pen stand 21 and the inner surface 8 of the storage section 3 may be less than the outer diameter of the pen P2 at any position, or may be greater than the outer diameter of the pen P2 at any position or any position.

When the pen stand 21 is pressed with a tangible object such as a finger or a pen P2, the pen stand 21 transforms from the usage configuration to the storage configuration, or from the storage configuration to the usage configuration. The pen stand 21 can maintain its configuration in both the usage configuration and the storage configuration. Therefore, even if a tangible object other than the pen case 1 with pen stand, such as a finger or a pen P2, is removed from the pen stand 21, the pen stand 21 remains in the usage configuration or the storage configuration. By placing the pen stand 21 in the usage configuration and placing the pen P2 vertically between the contact area 22 of the pen stand 21 and the inner surface 8 of the storage section 3, the pen P2 can be upright. By placing the pen stand 21 in the storage configuration, the pen stand 21 is less likely to get in the way when storing or removing stored items such as pens P1 from the storage section 3, and more pens P1 can be stored horizontally in the storage section 3.

Next, we will explain the effects of this embodiment.

In this embodiment, the pen P1 is inserted into and removed from the storage compartment 3 through the openable/closable opening/closing section 11. The pen P1 is stored in the storage compartment 3 in a horizontal position on the bottom surface 7 of the storage compartment 3. To stand the pen P2 upright, the tip of the pen P2 (the nib, the butt, or the tip of the cap covering the nib) is placed on the bottom surface 7 of the storage compartment 3, and the outer periphery of the pen P2 is brought into contact with the pen stand 21. The pen stand 21 supports the pen P2 by contacting it within the storage compartment 3, so the pen P2 can be maintained in an upright position even without a lid. Furthermore, because the lower end of the upright pen P2 is supported by the bottom surface 7 of the storage compartment 3, the center of gravity of the upright pen P2 can be lowered compared to when the lower end of the pen P2 is positioned above the bottom surface 7 of the storage compartment 3, making the pen P2 and the pen case 1 less likely to tip over.

Furthermore, the pen stand 21 is spaced above the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3, forming a gap between the pen stand 21 and the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3 that is larger than the outer diameter of the pen P1 lying down. Because the gap between the pen stand 21 and the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3 is larger than the outer diameter of the pen P1, the pen P1 can be laid down below the pen stand 21. In other words, the pen stand 21 can support an upright pen P2 on top of the lying pen P1. Moreover, the lower end of the upright pen P2 can be supported by the pen P1 lying down on the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3, making the upright pen P2 less likely to tip over.

In this embodiment, the entire circumference of the upright pen P2 extending upward from the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3 is not surrounded by the pen stand 21 alone, but is instead captured by the pen stand 21 and the inner surface 8 of the storage section 3. Therefore, both the pen stand 21 and the inner surface 8 of the storage section 3 can prevent the upright pen P2 from tipping over. Furthermore, because the vertical placement space S3 in which the upright pen P2 is placed is formed using part of the inner surface 8 of the storage section 3, the pen stand 21 can be made lighter than when the entire circumference of the upright pen P2 is surrounded by the pen stand 21 alone.

In this embodiment, when the pen stand 21 is pressed with a tangible object such as a finger or a pen P2, the pen stand 21 transforms from the use configuration to the storage configuration, or from the storage configuration to the use configuration. The upright pen P2 extending upward from the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3 is positioned inside the pen stand 21 in the use configuration and the inner surface 8 of the storage section 3, and is supported by the pen stand 21 in the use configuration. When the pen stand 21 is transformed from the use configuration to the storage configuration, the horizontal distance between the pen stand 21 and the inner surface 8 of the storage section 3 narrows. This makes it possible to prevent the pen stand 21 from getting in the way when not in use, and allows more pens P1 to be stored horizontally in the storage section 3.

In this embodiment, the pen stand 21 is long in the front-to-back direction so that multiple upright pens P2 can be supported by the pen stand 21 lined up front to front. The storage section 3 is relatively short in the front-to-back direction. If the pen stand 21 supports multiple upright pens P2 lined up left to right rather than front to back, the center of gravity of the entire pen case 1, including the upright pens P2 (and the center of gravity including items other than the upright pens P2 if the storage section 3 stores items other than the upright pens P2), is likely to be biased forward or backward. Because the storage section 3 is relatively short in the front-to-back direction, if the center of gravity of the entire pen case 1 is biased forward or backward, the posture of the pen case 1 is likely to become unstable. If the pen stand 21 supports multiple upright pens P2 lined up front to front, this instability in the posture can be reduced.

In this embodiment, the zipper is opened and closed by moving the slider 14 between the closed and open positions. When viewing the pen case 1 from above, the pens P2 extending upward from the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3 are positioned between the slider 14 and the pen stand 21 when the slider 14 is positioned closer to the open position than the pen stand 21. When the pens P2 positioned between the slider 14 and the pen stand 21 protrude upward from the zipper, the number of pens P2 that can be positioned between the slider 14 and the pen stand 21 can be increased or decreased by adjusting the position of the slider 14 left or right. Furthermore, by moving the slider 14 toward the closed position and closer to the pens P2, the pens P2 protruding upward from the zipper between the slider 14 and the pen stand 21 are less likely to tip over. In addition, because the pen stand 21 is positioned closer to the open position of the slider 14, the pen stand 21 is less likely to get in the way when inserting or removing pens P1 or other items into or from the storage section 3.

Next, we will explain other embodiments.

The intermediate portion 21i of the pen stand 21, which extends from one end 21a to the other end 21b of the pen stand 21, does not have to be U-shaped, recessed to the left and right so as to move away from the vertical placement space S3 in a plan view, but may instead have a shape consisting of multiple U-shaped portions lined up front and back, each recessed to the left and right so as to move away from the vertical placement space S3 in a plan view. For example, the intermediate portion 21i of the pen stand 21 may be wavy.

The entire pen stand 21 may form a single O-shaped ring that penetrates vertically, or the pen stand 21 may be provided with multiple O- or C-shaped ring sections that penetrate vertically and linear or band-like support sections that connect the multiple ring sections to the inner surface 6 of the storage section 3. In the former case, one or more pens P2 are arranged in an upright position within a single ring and are supported by the inner surface of the ring. In the latter case, multiple pens P2 are arranged in an upright position within multiple ring sections, one per section, and are supported by the inner surfaces of the multiple ring sections.

One end 21a of the pen stand 21 may be fixed to the inner front portion 8f or the inner rear portion 8b, and the other end 21b of the pen stand 21 may be fixed to the inner side portion 8s. Alternatively, both one end 21a and the other end 21b of the pen stand 21 may be fixed to the inner front portion 8f, the inner rear portion 8b, or the inner side portion 8s. The pen stand 21 may extend upward from the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3, as long as a horizontally placed pen P1 can be positioned between the contact area 22 of the pen stand 21 and the bottom surface 7 of the storage section 3.

The pen holder 21 does not have to be a single rectangular band or belt of uniform thickness. For example, the pen holder 21 may be one or more linear strings, or it may include a rectangular band and a linear string. The pen holder 21 may not be soft enough to be freely reshaped by touching it with your hand, but may be hard enough to not deform or to deform very little when pressed with your hand. For example, at least a portion of the pen holder 21 may be made of a hard material such as resin.

The storage compartment 3 may not be a triangular prism lying on its side when the opening/closing section 11 is closed, but may be a rectangular parallelepiped that is long in the left-right direction. When the pen case 1 is viewed from above, the storage compartment 3 may not be a rectangular prism that is long in the left-right direction, but may be an ellipse that is long in the left-right direction. The vertical cross section of the storage compartment 3 is not limited to a hollow triangular prism or trapezoid, but may also be a hollow circle, ellipse, square, or vertically or horizontally long rectangle.

A partition may be provided inside the storage section 3 to divide the storage space S1 into two separate spaces arranged side by side. In this case, a pen holder 21 may be provided in each separate space, or only one of the separate spaces may be provided with a pen holder 21. The storage section 3 may have an inner pocket superimposed on the inner front section 8f or the inner rear section 8b.

The opening/closing section 11 may be something other than a zipper. For example, instead of or in addition to a zipper, the opening/closing section 11 may include at least one of a hook-and-loop fastener, a magnet, a snap button or other button, or a lid that can move relative to the storage section 3 between a closed position that closes the opening formed in the storage section 3 and an open position that opens the opening, or it may include something other than these.

A zipper, which is an example of an opening/closing section 11, may have two sliders 14 that move along two rows of small pieces 13. In this case, the position where the distance between the two sliders 14 is smallest corresponds to the closed position of the sliders 14, and the position where the distance between the two sliders 14 is widest corresponds to the open position.
