Abstract
PURPOSE: To make a sharp and deep-bored etching pattern, by, prior to etcing of steel material, immersing the steel material in an oxidizing soln. to form an oxide coating on the surface, then by forming resist ink coating on the surface by a prescribed method.
CONSTITUTION: Prior to the etching with chemicals, plain steel material 2 or iron base alloy, e.g., stainless steel, is immersed in a mixed soln. of chromic acid and sulfuric acid to form oxide coating 6 (alkaline oxidizing or acidic oxidizing method may be used). The thickness of the oxide coating 6 may pref. be controlled by a method known to public, i.e., by monitoring the potential difference developed between a reference electrode and the steel material surface to be colored through immersion of the material in an oxidizing soln. Then a resist ink coating 1 of prescribed pattern is formed on the oxide coating 6 by a prescribed method, e.g., photoprinting, screen printing etc., thereby conducting pretreatment. Hereby, dissolution due to corrosion during etching at the boundary 3 is prevented by the formation of oxide coating 4 to form a sharp etched concave surface.
