Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform highly precise measurement of a length with a simple constitution by a method wherein the amount of linear transfer of an amount to be measured is read directly by a detecting head facing a long scale. CONSTITUTION:One end of a wire 11 as a flexible rail is fitted to the side (m) of a part to be measured and the wire 11 is moved according to an amount to be measured. The other end of the wire 11 is fitted to the detectig head 13 through the intermediary of a pulley 12. The detecting head 13 is arranged in opposition to a long magnetic scale 14 having the origin for measurement in the middle thereof and reads divisions for measuring the length marked on the scale 14 magnetically through the intermediary of a magnetoelectric conversion element and the like, while delivering a read value as an electric signal. To one end of the wire 11 fitted with the detecting heat 13 a weight 18 as a tension device is fitted through the intermediary of a lower pulley 16 and an upper pulley 17.
