Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a gel ointment of a nonsteroidal antiphlogistic analgesic agent, having controlled pH, high stability, excellent feeling to the skin and rapid permeation of the effective component through the skin, by compounding indomethacin, a fatty acid polyethylene glycol ester, glycols, acetone, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A gel ointment having a pH of 4.5W6.2 and composed of (A) indomethacin, (B) a fatty acid ester of polyethylene glycol (e.g. 10W18C polyethylene glycol monolaurate, etc.), (C) glycols, (D) lower alcohol and acetone, (E) purified water, and (F) a carboxyvinyl polymer. The preferable amounts of the components are 5W20wt% of (B), 5W20wt% of (C), 20W50wt% of (D), and 30W 60wt% of (E) for the feeling to the skin, the solubility and the stability. The indomethacin is stabilized with the components within the specified pH range, and the precipitation of the crystals of indomethacin can be prevented.
