Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform A/D conversion without distortion for an analog signal at small signal, by shifting a DC level of an analog input signal from the range of the most significant bit error of a reference D/A converter of a sequential comparison type A/D converter. CONSTITUTION:An analog signal 8 applied to a terminal 17 is added with a DC offset with a DC voltage source 19 at an analog adder 18 to be a signal 22 and inputted to an A/D converter 31. Since the signal 22 does not pass through between error points 12 and 13 of the most significant bit of a reference D/A converter DAC6 of a converter 31, a digital signal 23 without distortion is obtained from an output terminal 32. Since the signal 23 includes the DC component for DC offset added at the adder 18, a digital signal 24 added with a constant digital signal for the DC offset component at a digital adder 20 is obtained. Thus, even when the DAC6 with inaccuracy of the high-order bits is taken as a reference, almost the same dynamic range as that obtained by taking the accurate DAC as a reference can be obtained and an analog signal at small signal can be AD-converted without distortion.
