Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain purified water which has the same quality as that of water purified at a high dilution, without necessity of dilution or with a very low dilution within a short time in the treatment of a highly concentrated waste liquid.
CONSTITUTION: Nitrogen-contng. waste water is introduced through a pipe 14 into the first nitrification vessel 2, where the waste water is aerated with high efficiency by air fed from a sparger 11 and a sludge concentration is maintained at 10,000ppm or higher. Thereafter, the waste water is denitrified in the first denitrification vessel 3 under an anaerobic condition. A plurality of nitrification denitrification-combined steps comprising nitrification vessels 4 and denitrification vessels 5 are connected in series. Owing to this repeated combined treatment, the highly concentrated waste liquid 1 can be purified within a short time without necessity of dilution. Consequently, a pollutant removal rate per reaction space volume unit can be remarkably enhanced. The denitrified liquid 17, after aerated in an aeration vessel 6, is subjected to solid-liquid separation in a sedimentation vessel 7. The separated liquid part 18 is extracted through a line 8, while sludge is continuously returned and circulated as returned sludge 19 through a line 9 to a line 1.
