電極yjとの間の放電点により静止表示を行なわせるこ
とができる。即ち第1図の丸印で示すような状態で表示
されることになる。又セルフシフト動作を継続すれば、
電極dnに達した放電スポットは、次に母線Aにシフト
電圧が印加された時点で消去されることになるが、この
最終電極dnに於ける電界分布は、パネルの他の部分に
於ける電界分布とは著しく異なるものとなり、且つ最終
電極dn以降に放電スポットをシフトするところがない
ので、最終電極dn上の放電点の壁電荷を充分に消去す
ることができないことになる。従って電極cn,dn上
の放電点に放電スポットがシフトされないときに静止表
示を行なわせると、先の壁電荷が残存していることによ
り、電極cn,dn上の放電点に放電スポットが生じて
誤表示が行なわれることになる。本発明は前述の如き欠
点を改善した新規な発明であり、その目的は、セルフシ
フトの最終電極を静止表示の場合の表示電極とする場合
に於いても、誤表示が生じないようにすることにある。

ットがシフトされた後、母線Aにシフト電圧が印加され
ると、放電スポットは電極ao上の放電点にシフトされ
るので、電極dn上の放電点の壁電荷の消去が完全に行
なわれ、且つ電極血はその両側に電極ao,cnが存在
することにより電界分布が他の部分とほぼ同様になる。
即ちセルフシフトの最終電極dn上の放電点も他の部分
の放電点と同様の特性となることにより、セルフシフト
動作は勿・論、母線C,Dに継続的に電圧を印加して静
止表示を行なわせるときも誤表示を生じることがなくな
る。なお付加した電極ao又はboが実際のセルフシフ
トの最終電極となるが、これらの電極ao,bo上の放
電点は静止表示用でないので、壁電荷の残存があっても
何ら静止表示には影響を及ぼさないものである。
