PURPOSE:To simplify the operation of vertical-shaft rotary machine by making the oil removing operation and the air removing operation to be needless and to control the jack up quantity accurately by a method wherein a piston is divided into upper and lower parts, and an air chamber for braking and an oil chamber for jacking are separated and are formed separately. CONSTITUTION:The piston in a cylinder 4 is divided into the upper piston 3a and the lower piston 3b. The upper air chamber for braking 11a and the lower air chamber for braking 11b are formed being connected through a connecting hole 12 between the upper piston 3a and the lower piston 3b, and the oil chamber for jacking 13 is formed between the lower piston 3b and the bottom part of the cylinder 4.
